Good run. The weather is good but really cold. My foot now feels like l’m running with a hard lump under my arch

03/12/25: 0.44 mi.
I took advantage of the break in the rain to sneak-in a short loop around the neighborhood. Chilly with sporadic cold wind gusts.
I was having issues with my Strava account, so I set-up a new one. It didn't prompt me to choose a password, so we'll see what happens. Sent add requests for this group on Strava, and I followed a few of you. Feel free to add me, if you'd like:

Nice running @AlphaHowls . I love this weather. I wore shorts and a t-shirt today too.
That's great @yirara . We have an old saying, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." Just go with it and hope for another just like it tomorrow.
@Mari33a Glad you had a good run, but that would be irritating. I hope your foot feels better soon.
Way to get out there and get in what you could @tri_2_lose_weight . I'll try to add you on Strava. I'm Vicky R there.

Thanks, Vicky! It shows that you added me. I sent you an add request, too. Thanks for my first kudos! 👍️

Aww, thanks a lot Quilteryoyo. I always love your kind comments. They are motivation for me to go out and try again. 😘

I did a driveway wun after it warmed up a little this morning. When I got myself out the door, it was 66F (18.9C) so definitely shorts and t-shirt weather.
I had planned on an easy, shorter wun today because I was going to work on the garden wall again. From the beginning, it was hard - mostly because my legs felt like lead. But, once I got going, I didn't want to stop at 2 miles, so kept going. It was slower than the energy I felt like I was putting into it, but didn't try to really push any of it. Avg pace of the 2.50 miles was 13:35 min/mile. Splits were 14:16 (I really think GPS shorted me on this mile), 13:35, and 12:17 min/mile. Avg HR was 125 with a max of 146 bpm.
I did work about 2 hours on the garden too. If you know anything about TN soil, you know that digging isn't an easy task (clay and rocks), plus there were some really large roots that needed to be removed. It's slow going.

3/12 - 2 Mile run at 9:11 Pace. Legs felt a little better today! Was able to do two miles without having to stop and walk at all. I knew I wanted it to be a short run, didn't want to completely trash my legs and wanted to leave some gas in the tank for tomorrow. Hopefully can do 2 miles again the next couple days and if I feel like they're coming back some maybe we'll try and do a 3 or 4 miler soon!

My hip was bothering me tonight. It was hurting a while ago, but was feeling better the last couple of months. It's pretty painful again tonight though. I have a 5k race on Sunday, so I might take a few days off beforehand, run on Sunday, and then reevaluate to see if I need to take some more time off. I'm pretty bummed. I feel like I am improving quite a bit and starting to really enjoy my runs. But it is what it is, I guess.

Thursday 10k this morning. Tired legs to start (thanks Pilates) but I came right and enjoyed myself. Kept it nice and slow.
I finally saw the sports doctor for my back and it’s good news. Yes, I have spondylitis (disc shrinkage), but so do 90% of people my age and the doctor disagreed with the adjective severe, saying it’s a perfectly normal amount of wear.
However, the MRI also shows a disc protrusion on the left side and a small tear - this will heal in time (6-12 months. It’s been 6 already and is much improved).
The main upshot is I can keep running - running doesn’t hurt and in fact makes it feel better. Also, as the doctor said, running keeps me lean and the pressure it puts on my back would soon be equalled or worse with the weight gain that would likely come if I stopped, and then there’s the mental health benefits to running which can’t be over estimated. Anyway, he is singing to the choir, as I am here. So yay. Back into it full speed.
I am seeing a physio to help build my left lumbopelvic control - I’m a little weak on that side, and I am to keep up with the 2-3 Pilates sessions a week.
10 -
@ContraryMaryMary I'm glad that you are given a clean bill for running and even encouraged to by your doctor! I hope the disk problem goes away soon!
@Zaxa2021 I hope your hip feels better soon! Have you looked into any stretches or exercises for it that may help alleviate the issue and strengthen it? I hope you can run your 10k on Sunday without any pain!
Today I went on an easy run. No shorts weather here ;) - it has been warming up during the day, but right around freezing when I get out in the morning. It is still very much enjoyable for running though and there is definitely a spring feeling in the air! I am doing my long run tomorrow, so today was an easy run. I ran 11.5km. I try to avoid looking at my watch on easy runs and long runs, so I can just focus on me and not the pace, but was very surprised when I finished that my pace had been as fast as it was.
151.2/300km for March.

Morning all ,
Comeback run with new orthotic insoles. Got in 5K at 11'30 something.
Let's see if there's any pain later.
Let's hope these work. 🤞🏽🙏🏽
Don't think it's as simple as going back to running full-time every day. Been told to phase it in. Will probably run tomorrow but will be gym-ing it on the weekend.
Please send over a barrage of abuse -the virtual equivalent of a punch in the Nads- if you see me running anything more than twice in a row!
Good to be back though ☺️

Thanks, @AlphaHowls ! 🤗

This really good news. I'm happy you have a solid plan to keep going.

@tarun_yadavA Welcome back! Sounds like you are entering the wisdom phase of this marathon. Here's to you getting stronger, happier, and healthier.
3 -
Great run @connor_manning !
Sorry to hear about you hip @Zaxa2021 . I hope the rest allows you to run on Saturday without making it worse.
That's great news @ContraryMaryMary ! I think too many doctor's don't understand the benefits of running as a way to keep the weight off and the mind sane.
Great run @Laurz9191 . I love it when I am surprised by a faster pace than I thought I was running.
I'm really glad to see you back running @tarun_yadavA . I hope the insoles work for you and PLEASE listen to the doctor and ease back into it.
1 -
Great to see you back @tarun_yadavA 😁 I'm sure you will take it slow and easy coming back, but I'll gladly send you a virtual kick in the nads if you start over-doing it 🤣😂🤣

13.03 3.0km 22min 7:29/km - warmup, 1.61km fast33.46km
Not at good as yesterday, but not totally rubbish either. My running programme asked for a 10min warmup, then 1.61km fast. It's cold again and my muscles don't quite work so well and 10 minutes warmup is too short for me. I should have know that. Doesn't matter. I skipped the cooldown, but got the 1.61km in.

I didn't post yesterday, so I'm posting two runs. Yesterday morning was really nice at 63F. I wore shorts and a t-shirt and ran 6 miles. It was a pretty morning, but an uneventful run. I did not sleep well last night, and I was very tired this morning. I almost ran a short run today, but I was planning an interval run and decided that mentally I would feel worse if I skipped it, so I went ahead and did the workout. It turned out to be a great run. I felt really strong and hit all the paces. It was 55F today, so a little cooler than yesterday, but still a great day to run in shorts. The moon was especially pretty this morning too and I ran 6 miles again.@tarun_yadavA Glad to see you back running!
@ContraryMaryMary Glad the doctor gave you good news and you are able to run!
@Zaxa2021 I hope the hip is better in time for the race on Sunday!

I didn't get myself out the door until 1 pm today. By then it was 68F (20C), so great shorts and t-shirt weather again. I was a bit slower today…didn't try to push it and just ran at what felt like an easy pace. My legs were a little heavy again, but not horrible. The avg pace for the run was 13:14 min/mile. Avg HR was 126 with a max of 150 bpm. Splits were 13:51, 13:37, 12:23, and 12:32 min/mile.
I finished the run at mom's, talked to her a few minutes, and then walked home. She was working in her flowers. She does have a green thumb which I didn't inherit, even though I try.

Did 4 TM miles with 3/1 intervals. Went well again, so maybe I can go outside on Saturday 🤞🤞
You all are doing great!

Got 3 miles in today at 9:11 pace. Legs definitely felt more fresh today. Felt good for about the first mile and a have, started making my way back and was feeling pretty washed by the end of the third mile. Still happy with the run! Probably lighter jog again tomorrow to get the legs back some. Feeling better every day though!

Morning all
Thanks for the welcome back wishes.
Got in 4.0M at 10'40.
Will be cycling and rowing on Saturday/Sunday.
PS: was there some update here? The UI has gone weird. Can't tag ppl properly either!? 🤷🏽

@tarun_yadavA this whole new “Rich Editor” has screwed things up. I only use my iPhone for MFP. Don’t use a laptop or computer, so navigating all the changes has been a pain!
Nice job with your two runs!!

Hi everyone!
I just finished my long run. It was so hard today and I really had a hard time getting into it, but after km 12, I was soooo far away from my car there was no turning back ;). This was my final run over 30km before the marathon, so I’m glad I got it finished. I am very much looking forward to my rest day tomorrow! I ran 31.5km.182.7/300km for March!

I thought I would try posting about my runs in a group specific to running and the run/walk one I was one. I am working on falling in love with running again and running for the simple enjoyment of it. As someone who doesn't race on Sundays and all but one of the past races I did being closed, my running for "bling" isn't happening. I also don't need medals. I need to run for the love I have for running and the exercise and how it helps me physically and emotionally.
My goal this month is to run more then January and February combined, which is 28km. My runs during the week are on my lunch break, so I am limited with my pace and the time to 4km. Once I get more consistent in my running, I am will try running again when I get home from work so I can run a little longer.
Goal: 28+km
March 4 - 4km
March 11 - 3km
March 13 - 4km
Total: 11km. 17km to go
Tomorrow I plan to run at least 6km. I want to run longer but I know I am not in the shape to do that. My run on the 11th would have been longer but I tripped over a raised portion of the sidewalk and fell flat. I have never done that before. I have to say the first thing I checked was my tights to make sure I didn't tear them! 😂😂 I am fine. Just bruised
7 -
That's great news @Scott6255 .
You're doing great @connor_manning .
Nice run today @tarun_yadavA . Yes, there was an update. You can still tag people, but sometimes it takes a couple of tries. Can't hide pictures under the spoiler, but I think they are supposed to be working on that. I noticed last night that I couldn't find my bookmarks on the phone app and had to just go to the challenges forum and find it. That was new.
That's one "advantage" to an out and back - you have no choice but to finish @Laurz9191 . You did great. Enjoy your taper.
Welcome @angf0679 . You've found a great, supportive group. I'm glad you weren't hurt when you fell.
I was planning to do a short, probably walk, later today, but then I realized it was Pi day, so may have to do 3.14. 😂🤷
