I have taken three sets of swim lessons between 2018-2019. I just find if I pay for something ahead I’ll be more committed to going. When I just tell myself I’m going swimming I let myself down. Don’t ask me why, I’m not sure.
There’s probably some theory in some book that would tell me.
😀 Tracey, Gretchen Rubin wrote a book called The Four Tendencies that explains this perfectly. She would say that you are an Obliger—-someone who can do what others expect of you, but not what you ask of yourself. She says that Obligers do well when they agree to do something with an accountability partner or sign up for a class.

I added a splash of Mirin, in the 2 egg mixture with salt and pepper, and cooked it thin in a pan with a bit of butter. Before it was firm, I folded over the sides so it was a rectangle, and took it out before it was brown. It made two pieces fairly perfectly, just a little leftover egg long strands. Which I gobbled up as I was building.😁

Well good news ladies! My youngest sailor son is being transferred to barracks by Balboa hospital facility. That's exactly where he needs to be! I am so happy he won't have to look for an apartment, the stress of traveling in a city he's totally unfamiliar with. My wish is they check him out, he goes thru all their testing, he's put on a plan that works for him, they deem him medically ok, and he is medically discharged, and he gets some sort of Navy medical disability. That's my wish anyways.

Carol - I bet the PT will help a lot, especially building up those muscles we didn't know (or forgot) that we had. Some new exercises they've given me, which seem to help a lot, are "prone swimmer", "Superman on Table" (or floor is OK too) and some using bands. I'm doing those in addition to the old standbys like bridging and press ups.
Rebecca - great news about your son, hope it all goes well for him.
Heather - those eggs really turned out well. I bet the grands always look forward to coming to your house to see what fun things they'll be doing. You and John have lit a creative fire in them!
Lisa - well, that's a frustrating turn of events. I sometimes think our job as patients is to educate these doctors who seem to be in forever "practicing" mode. Hate it when they practice on us and we need to educate them, but I guess that's how they learn. I recently watched an interview with the new head of the VA and he was talking about things that need to be fixed and gave an example just like the one you mentioned. Hope he can get things straightened out.
Vicki - hope your first day at the job was good. Thought about you a lot! I'm sure your employer was impressed!
Rita - I have such a good feeling about your new doc - so glad she's willing to talk to you about your DH and speak to him as well. Sounds like your son's facility has top-notch staff including you in the process. By the way, planting "lupins" - the wolf kind - sounds good. Bet it would cut down on the bunny population and keep the deer off the neighbor's blueberries.😁
Kylia - as always, glad to see you popping in and love the kitty photos, as always. Can't believe they've grown so much!
Tracey - yes, that poem is us!
Pip - so sorry to hear about Yogi. As others have mentioned, hope it's slow growing and he isn't in any pain.
Pamiede - so sorry to hear about the accident and stroke. What an unfortunate series of events. Happy to hear there's a chance you will walk again. Many of us are going through PT right now for various problems too.
I need to head back outside and get ready to pot up those little tomatoes - which means I must get 42 little labels ready to stick in the dirt of each container.

Pip - So sorry about the news for Yogi. Hope that it's the best situation and not the worst.
Tracey - That poem was absolutely spot on.
Heather - The time with the girls looks like such fun!
Talked to my current civilian cardio, and they're moving me over to Medicare and off the VA's community care process. Should still be able to use the VA pharmacy, though. Got them to move my appointment with him out to May 29, because my colonoscopy is on May 20. Next steps with my heart depend on the results of the colonoscopy.
The VA cardio is supposed to call me on Friday, and that will be a very interesting conversation. I'm trying to take my own advice and not rest any expectations on that upcoming interaction.
My friend's dad died this morning just after 9 a.m., and rather than go into town, I just stopped on my way back from picking up what we needed and bought a climbing rose in his honor. I'll plant it by our lamp post in the yard, and let my friend know, once it's blooming.
Didn't know how tense I was about it all until I got the message that he was gone. Just wish I could go hug her.

🙀 Today was my phone appointment with Social Security. My first contact with them was near the end of January when I waited three hours for a call back and they said someone would call me from my local office to set up an appointment. I called back at the end of March and waited three hours for a call back where they asked me some questions and said someone would call back from my local office. A few days later I got a text and an email setting up a phone appointment for today. I got a letter in the mail confirming the phone appointment and a phone reminder yesterday. I was ready for the appointment with all the documents they said I'd need. Because I was concerned that Annie would be disruptive, I took everything to the garage to take the call. The woman I talked to asked me all sorts of questions including a few about Jake's marital history that I wasn't prepared for but had approximate answers for the questions. She reminded me that the call was being recorded, that there were severe penalties for not telling the truth, and that my claim would be approved when they got an original of our marriage certificate. She told me I could mail it to her office (90 minutes away) or drop it in the drop box at the office in my county (20 minutes away). Mailing it would have been easier but I chose to drive to the local office to give my car and dog and much needed long ride. Now I wait for official approval followed by money I didn't expect. I came home and celebrated with a fried egg sandwich and mowing the grass.
😥 Pip, sorry to hear the news about Yogi.
😀 Heather, those eggs are spectacular. You and your family are so creative.

Today my friend asked if I wanted to go out to lunch. I was like sure, when. She responded, well now, I am in your driveway. Who does that, oh I know, her! Too funny. She and I had a nice chat as it had been almost a year since our last get together. Afterwards I played the piano in the galleria area, and one of the shop owners came out to listen. I promptly looked, smiled and lost the train of thought on what I was playing. We laughed and I exclaimed I hate when that happens. I saw a flyer for piano lessons locally so when I got home I emailed him to ask about prices to have the opportunity to play a well tuned, and cared for piano. We'll see what he says back. I also asked about if he could write my music down, or help me get it published or at least copy written. We'll see.

Big hugs Pip! Here's to hoping Yogis cancer is slow progressing and you get a bunch more years left with him. He's such a good dog.💖.
Why did dogs lives have to be so short, its just not fair to us behind loving and missing them. I told my sister that she needs to get another bernese puppy so Tucker can train this one to care for Pam when he passes. Bernese dogs sadly have fairly short lifespans. She was like, "I don't want to talk about it". She will be devastated when he passes, he is such a presence in her life.😥💖🙏

DH has gout in his pinky....seriously! 3 weeks of antibiotics three doctor appointments, plus xrays. Ortho dr said gout. The last time he had gout was when he broke his ankle 12 years ago. Then it was his big toe. Never thought of that....next step z pack. Maybe the swelling will finally go down. Will pick up cherry juice tomorrow.
I lost my voice today. Fun at work! I feel fine, just no voice. Took my elderberries and a spoonful of honey. Will take allergy med at bedtime.
Pip- Prayers for a long pain-free life for Yogi.
Rebecca- What a great lunch invite!
I need to get some work done or maybe just go to bed.....

Pamiede: Wow! What a health story. I am so sorry you have been through all this. I wish you the very best of outcomes on Ozempic.
PipCD: I hope you have more time with Yogi. My son has a Black Lab around 10 years old. He is scheduled for surgery in May. He has a growth by his shoulder. It is worrisome.
Lisa: I am sorry your good friend lost her Dad…and that you couldn't be there. The idea to plant a plant in his memory is wonderful. I know how much I would appreciate this and am sure your friend must appreciate it very much.
Rita: My sympathy on the loss of Brownie. I hope all goes well for your son and that his future is bright.
Rebecca: What a relief to hear from your son. You would hope in this day and age and his being young, that there could be a treatment that at least gets this under control.
Flea: Handsome young son!
Machka: What a wonderful view!
Ginny: Congrats on your upcoming retirement.
Vicki: Nice to spend time with your brothers/Congrats on the new job.
Heather: Congrats on winning a prize!
I have missed most of the month of April with the Blog. Been as busy as my energy level will tolerate. I purchased a new battery powered lawn mower! I have gotten it going and did cut the grass yesterday! I think it will be a lot better than being frustrated that the yard service has not come when i wished, comes at the wrong time of day, over cut the lawn and so forth. I am going to love being in control!
My mother fell. Like Lisa, I thought hard about going to Boston to see her. I am going in May and will go if I am needed. But it is expensive and i don't want to drive in MA. She broke her hip and the surgery went well. She will go to rehab this week.
My trip to the coast begins the 24th. I truly hope I can relax and that this will be a good memory for me. My brothers have assured me that I can take the trip and they will work something out for my mother. My mother is in good spirits and doing well.
Best,
Rosemarie from GA

Belated welcome @RosaPomodoro. Lots of crafters here, but alas, not me. How about a pic of your silly Cavalier?
Beth s s s n o w ?!?
Lisa s s s n a k e s !!! and things that mooooove in the dark?!? Eeeuuwwww Yours to Barbie about fragility and her shining example of humanity. So very well said.
Debbie good job with MIL’s dog. Happy to hear it’s working out with your son and his gf.
Mo music does that to me too. Sometimes while driving I’ll burst into tears at what’s playing on the radio.
Flea thankful you weren’t hurt when rear-ended and for your good habit of leaving a car length of space. Glad the poor guy was polite and didn’t run. What Lisa said about your kindness, so admirable. Wish that was my default reaction, but alas . . .
Kim that’s a long time for a cough, and now a full blown cold? ((hugs)) Whooshing good thoughts for me/gardening time as both a $$ and health/sanity saver.
Tracey and Machka you are so right about sitting and/or not moving triggering hip pain. ((hugs))
Heather Bravissima for finishing your book!
Rita in what universe would the lack of a bathroom NOT be a problem? SMH.
Rebecca great pics from your aunt’s memorial. In the pic with your grandma, you are instantly recognizeable.
Allie thanks for the sweetly sleeping sMyles pic, it’s a keeper.
Carol so sorry to hear the shot didn’t help and that the pain seems to be coming from your back. Any Xrays or scans planned?
Barbie well done on the healthier eating and Yay for Annie doing well in the car.
Lanette “may be time to replace that crown” aaaugh. Hope it doesn’t become acute any time soon.
Good news on the water front. Water stopped mid shower AGAIN (can you say “Madder than a wet hen!”?) so when Joe called the water guy, he came right over, with the cleanout tool he told Joe about the last time. Seems to have done the trick. We’ve both had showers, I’ve done two loads of laundry and water pressure remains consistent. Joe asked the water guy if he thought he could finish the job (remove the unused parts, replace the rusty pressure tank, move the UV filter to where we can easily change the lamp and clean the sleeve) this Spring. He said “Sure!” We’ll see.
Only through pg 11 but getting hungry so time to get up and fix food.

I’m curious, were the arguments about the group the time you’ve spent or what has been shared?

Well you get the drift….
I love the eggs! Great job!Carol - I swam when I was young but was held under by some boys that thought they were being funny. It took me almost 10 years to even get in the water after that. I worked hard to get over that fear when I went for lessons a few years ago.
I was so proud of myself in my last set when I jumped off the diving box. What a feeling!Lisa - I’m so sorry for your friend. Such a difficult time. You too. It’s hard not being there during things like this.
Glad your cardiologist takes Medicare and hope you don’t have a battle on your hands with the VA.Barbie - I’m going to have to look for that book. It sounds very much like me.
I’m happy you had an appointment with SS. What would people do if that was their only source of income. That’s been a long wait.Rebecca - good news about son. I hope all of your wishes come true.
Rosemarie - I hope your mother heals fast.
Barbara - I hope the water guy follows through this has been a long ordeal.
Busy day at work. Then I went and got some groceries this evening and cut up a bunch of veggies and fruit.
I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow late afternoon so will leave work early.Tracey in Edmonton

Hello everyone;
I hope all is well with everyone.
Allie, Potty training was not easy with my kids. I listened to the pediatrician about Julia having a small bladder. DS was completely potty trained, and then he noticed Julia was wearing pull-ups at midnight. Even when she went on sleepovers. I had to go through her bag when she got home to discard the pull ups. Finally, DH and I decided we didn't want to buy more pull-ups and made DD and DS pee before bed. We told them that if they pee in the bed, they should clean it themselves. There was no playtime till it was cleaned. That ended that craziness. Three is the magical age to be almost potty trained, not 12. DD would clean herself up at daycare and change her clothes while the teachers ate lunch. DD was 3.5 then. When awake, she was fine; it was during sleep. I remember buying "Once Upon a Potty" and getting a potty chair that made music when they went. Then, they figured out how it worked. So, I wish Tracey well with that.
PIP, I am so sad about Yogi. He and Rose are the same age. I love Yogi in his pictures. He is the leader of the pack. I hate that dogs can get human diseases like cancer. Hug him for me. Is he acting like he is in pain?😪
Barbie, I hope everything worked out with your appointment, and you can check this off your list.
Well, I am going to bed now. Take care everyone. Had a bad migraine today.

I am apprehensive about password managers. I feel like I would be handing my passwords over to someone unknown who could potentially do what they liked with them.
I know there's security but I hear about companies of all sorts being hacked all the time.
I'm just not confident.
And I definitely don't let Google save any of my passwords!

Morning, my dears,
Turned the big heater on to warm the house a bit, as it's chilly in here. Going to drop a few more degrees outside, as it's not yet 4 a.m., and then will go back up to nearly 80 (26c) this afternoon. Then into a few warm weeks. We might yet see one more frost, but doubtful now. Rain on the weekend, which is good, we'll need it by then.
Allie - Hope you were able to get some sleep, glad you got a good report from your PT!
Mo - Sorry about the migraine! Hope you woke feeling better.
Barbara AHMOD - Yay for a long, hot shower! Glad there was at least a partial solution…
Heather - Thank you… I have been at such a loss for what to do or say for my friend, it was a relief to think of something real to accomplish, like planting a rose. He was a good man, and their relationship in his later years wasn't always easy, but it was close, especially after her mom died during the pandemic. Her long-planned vacation to Hawaii is just a week or so away, and badly needed. Glad she's still going. And yes, she plans to see my daughter while she's there.
Regarding the VA healthcare system -
I did finally remember that my Friday appointment is actually with the podiatrist, the one that was postponed when my car went kerflooie. The VA should still be calling me to schedule the phone appointment with the cardio.
I can say very little on the rest of it with our ban of politics in place - but the bald numbers: 137 out of 139 VA health centers were reported as severely understaffed in 2024. The latest announcement from the VA CEO (or whatever he's called) said they will be cutting 83,000+ staff, out of a workforce of 437,000, nearly 1 in 5 employees gone. Many of whom are veterans themselves.
I don't really have anything else to say about that.
I will say that I don't want anyone committing surgery on me who is doing it to justify their job so they get to keep it. I want them more worried about me than about themselves, if that makes sense.
Couldn't sleep, but I honestly feel fine. Got out in the afternoon yesterday and did more cleanup on the little house. More on that adventure:
Was able to take the little lawn tractor down and hack down pretty much all the grass that's visible from the road. Unfortunately - NOT a zero-turn mower, which for the uninitiated means I was yanking hard on the steering wheel in a small area.
My shoulder did not like that at all. Part of the reason I couldn't sleep. I squeaked awake every time I shifted in my sleep.
The roll-off dumpster will either be delivered today or tomorrow—they'll call when they're on their way. The electric people are coming today to take their meter back and roll the electric wires up to the post and get them out of the way.
I guess I need to call the phone company, too - there are landline phone wires, or possibly Internet or cable TV wires going into the house. I just need to know if I can cut them or if they need to.
There's more involved in getting rid of a house than I would have ever thought, even out here in the country with very few regulations. But - once the house has been demolished, I should be able to request an assessment be done and drop the taxes significantly.
Right now, I'm paying as much in taxes annually on the little house, which is just a two-bedroom on a half acre, as I pay on our three-bedroom on 10+ acres. Our taxes aren't high compared to houses in town, but if I can drop them it will be helpful.
Well, that went on longer than I meant it to…
I've got a video I need to get edited and get a front panel designed for, and Corey will be up in less than an hour to head for work. Also want to get all the scatter rugs in the wash, and then the sheets, once Cor's up and around. I'll be able to get those dried on the line, which always makes me happy.
Hope it's a good day, everyone. I'll probably catch a nap later.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR6 -

Barbie- Glad you had SS interview. Please don't take their questions about past marriages personally. In some situations ex spouses can claim so they need to make sure the paperwork matches (shockingly, some people do falsify government applications!)
Can't remember if I posted my biopsy results were as expected-three suspicious tumors were the thyroid metastasis - everything else clear. See surgeon next weak for post op. Will get blood work to see how markers are in June and decision on medicine levels then. Also meeting with oncologist at that visit just to understand possible future options and when they would need to be considered. Not sure how I will feel next few weeks while thyroid stuff in my system does whatever it will do without tumors generating stuff.
I had more thoughts, but my brain isn't there right now. Need to lay back down before SiL comes to do laundry.

Tonight's sunset reflecting in the bay.
And one of our bees loaded with pollen. 🐝
I spent today trying to get something to work in Excel's Power Query … and could not do it. It seemed like it should be something quite simple, but I tried everything I could think of and kept coming to the same conclusion. IF it is possible to get it to work, it's going to be way too complicated to use. Bah Humbug.
I have a backup plan which is OK, but I don't think it's ideal. I'll have to find a Plan C.
At home, I walked Rhody, attended our Bee Zoom meeting, got an email account working again, did a French lesson in Duolingo, and coloured.

Maybe over the Easter break … I am so ready for some time off!
7 -
Good Morning, Everyone.
I am starting my long stretch of five twelve-hour nights tonight. I learned that I love quiet time when I am off. I can listen to soft music, audiobooks, and even TV. The volume has to be non-intrusive. The TV is on HGTV most of the time unless there is a particular show I want to watch. I love YouTube stuff currently, like Sitting with Dogs (Rocky Kanaka), or True Crime Stuff. It all depends on my mood. I had to tell DH to use his headphones because what he was listening to annoyed me. Hearing constant alarms at work and people talking makes me long for quiet.
When I move, I have a chance to do something different. I do not want to lift heavy patients anymore. I am thinking about Hospice, but my friend says I will be crying louder than the family( I do not want that). We will see the direction I go. I did one home visit, and this man had so many roaches in his house that I just wanted to run out of his place screaming. My social worker cousin says you must leave your stuff in the car and march in place to keep from taking it into your vehicle or home. Another nurse told me that she went to a house where the man was completely nude, and she refused to enter the home until he put his clothes on(the father of the patient). I do not have tolerance for that either. Living in the south is quieter and different than Chicago. Crime is bad in Jackson, but in Chicago, it is worse. So I like to stay in my safety zone—many things to consider.Lisa, I am so sorry about your friend. It is so hard to lose a father and watch him in the dying process. I know it is harder not to hold your friend's hand through it. Just know that being available to listen to her vent and your love mean everything. As wise as you are, you can help her pick up the pieces now that it is over. I love the climbing rose plan. Sending you hugs, Lisa.
Lisa, I must also comment on your plan in dealing with the bureaucracy of the VA. They lack continuity of care. Thank goodness you are savvy and do not trust blindly in the crap they tell you about your health. You and your trusted doctor laid out a plan you both agreed on, and this doctor is not hearing you. You are correct, not to do things his way. My dad had cardiomyopathy, and he had an afib episode, and they took him to the closest hospital. I told them to transfer him to his doctor's. They didn't listen to his doctor, and did the procedure before I could get there to stop them, and I had to okay TPA because he had a clot. He needed a blood thinner before that procedure. His doctor talked to me and warned me of it. My dad didn't know and signed the consent.
Ginny, you have a lot on your plate. I want to send you tight hugs as well. I am glad you have someone there to help you out. We are here to listen to and support you. Rest now, cause you have a battle to fight. You are in my prayers.
Take care, everyone. You all have become so important to me. Please be safe—those who are healing rest. Keep the animal pictures coming. I may be allergic to cats, but I love their personalities. Pip, give extra hugs to Yogi for me. I love the artwork too. Heather- the wooden eggs were a great idea and came out beautifully. Michelle, the fish from ceramics was so cute as well. Goodbye for now. Love you all.
