@chris_in_cal heard there were tremors where you are yday?
Rockin' and Rollin' it was 50km from my office and a strong one. There was very little damage overall and none for me personally.
For all you tornado, hurricane, typhoon, cyclone, locust, etc. people, it's just another thing. Perhaps even a little fun.

I ran 7 miles today. I did an interval run. I thought it would be a good idea to concentrate on something other than my job woes. I think it helped some. It was a good run. It is a little cooler today so it was perfect running weather.

Nice @chris_in_cal .
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . Nice easy run. Take care of that back. Enjoy your early birthday present.
Glad the migraine was short lived @John772016 . Nice treadmill run.
@Laurz9191 Glad you had a good day for a run. Sorry it wasn't easy for you.

Last night and today's stress are under the spoiler.
So, yesterday, someone from mom's doctor's office called to let me know that she wanted mom to come in today to discuss the results of her blood work they took last Thursday. I asked if there was anything wrong and she said she didn't know, she was just making the appointment.
Of course, mine and mom's mind start going to worst case scenario. I tried to convince her, and myself, that we didn't need to worry about anything until we knew what is going on. Easier said than done.
I went to work early this morning, but left early we could make her appointment.
Turns out, nothing major was wrong. Her thyroid is a bit low, her cholesterol is a little above boarder line, and her kidney function is still low, but stable. She just wanted to make sure that we didn't want to address any of those with new medications. That was a major relief.
I did a short walk on the treadmill during the 45 min I was home between work, taking mom to the doctor, and signing our taxes. Nothing like the last minute on the taxes.

haha.. Today someone at work reminded me that I am officially today fully retirement vested! Which means 66 and 8 months. (I wasn't really totally watching this particular thing honestly) and if I keep working that it increases by 15% per year. Not sure that is a true fact but I do intend to keep working for a while I think.
Got a good 7 miler in this morning (channeling @kgirlhart altho she was a lot speedier) and when I went home for lunch was surprised how COOL it was with a north wind so decided to get out and do another 1. just cause. My first hibiscus of the season bloomed. Very late but the plant took a huge hit for some reason earlier this year and lost all it's leaves. I thought it was a deader. Sometimes I think the slugs and snails get into the pots and cut the roots off or something. I have another plant I was looking forward to blooming that just all of a sudden one day was wilted. Of course it could also be a neighborhood dog watering them I guess.
My emoji keyboard on my MAC has taken a walk. I used to be able to press the world looking button and get them but even in settings that feature has taken a hiatus with the latest software stuff. sigh.

I wanted to try out my new shoes so I did faster intervals today. I am trying not to fall into the trap of just running every run easy now that I'm out of racing season. The new shoes felt good. Nice and responsive but the heel is more cushioned, which feels nice when I walk. They aren't the mach, but I think they will be a good substitute. When the next mach comes out I hope they address the toe box and maybe I can switch back.
6 -
Hahaha @angf0679 . Yeah, if you got up any earlier, you might as well not go to bed. You are doing great.
Glad you felt like taking a nice walk this morning @MJPitter .
Another nice run @tarun_yadavA .
Love those new shoes @martaindale . Sounds like you had a good run in them too.
2 -
@martaindale nice on the new shoes. Beaut colour. Be careful about trail runs, they can be super addictive…. Next thing you know you might signing up for trail races 😁
@SummerSkier yeah i know, and it doesnt help Im not helping it heal either too much arm work 😂 15% increase per year is good!
@angf0679 can help run!
@quilteryoyo good to hear about the positive checkup
@chris_in_cal good job on the 2 miler. I'll trade you my tornados for a little rockin roller....
@tarun_yadavA nothing a beer cant help with stiffness....
@Teresa502 love Hokas!
@John772016 nice runs
@Laurz9191 yay for nice weather
@kgirlhart nice runs!
@MJPitter yay for the win
Nowadays I tend to start my runs with tired stiff legs and then it finally loosens up maybe 3k into the run. Runs are slowly getting longer and longer. Been doing heart rate training. Ugh, fitness not there yet. Too high mostly. Garmin tells me to keep it below 150. I keep bumping into over 150…sigh.
Anyone here into big trail runs? Anyone else on strava?
Trees finally beginning to bud.

Woke up to winter temps this morning but supposed to be a mild weekend🤞

@WarmJellyfish I really enjoy trail running but it's not convenient for most of my runs. Now that I have the camper van and am camping more, I have more weekends at State parks where I can get some long trail runs in. I've been using older road shoes but there is a limit to what trails I can realistically handle in road shoes and mud is a hard no-go. I think the trail shoes will help me get out onto more trails and explore some that I might not have been able to do before.
Back in the day I did a few trail races but sort of migrated towards road running. Now that I'm readjusting my goals around running, trails are calling. I probably will find some trail races, maybe some for my travel races!
Also, yes I'm on Strava. Several of us are. How do I find you?

Went to the neighborhood trail today. I hope the mowers get to it soon or I will have to stop using it for a while, at least the last half mile or so. The front part gets a lot of foot traffic so even when the grass alongside it gets really tall, you can see where you are stepping. The back bit gets a lot less traffic and grass grows in the footpath. So, between the knee high grass on the sides and the grass on the single track itself, you can't really tell where the ground is. And snakes are an issue because you can't see them at all. The mowers were on the other side of the bayou today so hopefully that means this side will get some attention soon.
Also, my Garmin upgraded me to productive a couple of days ago and it's holding steady! I know not to read too much into it but I feel like it's a good sign that everything is back to baseline. I'm able to put in some longer miles and harder efforts without it tanking me.

So this needs some context: On 12.04 I messed with magnesium and overdosed. Result: could not run, could not get hr up, muscles weak. Oh well… On 13.04 I got up far too early and spent 9 hrs on a usually less than 5 hrs train ride to neighbouring country for a concert. Just dumped stuff in hostel dorm, went grabbed something to eat, went to concert venue and danced like crazy for all of the 70 minutes of the main act. Had really bad muscle cramps at night, and I'm sure my moaning woke up the other roomies. Got up fairly early, grabbed a whole suitcase and a coolbag full of local food (mostly bread), and dragged it home by train again. Felt super tired yesterday, but still decided to go to the pool for the darn 1000m Garmin swimming badge. So ran again today. After such a strenuous few days I basically start from the beginning again, and it will take a while until I'm able to run faster, and longer again. Still a good start.

@Mari33a Glad to hear your son got to come home!
@kgirlhart The weather has been really lovely this last week! Such a nicer spring than last year where I felt like it just went straight into summer.
3 -
Happy birthday @kgirlhart! 🎈 🥳🎂🎉

@WarmJellyfish You are doing great. I am on Strava as Vicky R. A lot of things can affect your HR. Sometimes mine jumps up the second I start exercising and sometimes, it never gets to where I think it should. Not saying your shouldn't pay attention to it, just that a lot of things can affect it - like hydration, sleep, how you are feeling, etc.
I hope work wasn't too mad at you for being late @angf0679 .
Great treadmill run @John772016 .
Your recovery is going great @martaindale . Yeah. I wouldn't want to run where I couldn't see if I was about to step on a snake or not.
Nice run @kgirlhart . Enjoy your kids this weekend AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Nice run @Mari33a . I'm glad you have the appointment scheduled for your son.

Got up early enough to get my run done before heading out for the day. Today, I ran fasted and did much better than I have done in the past. I ran to try to keep my HR between 120 and 140 bpm….just some random numbers I pulled out of my hat. I ran 4.5-5.2 mph, one minute each, for the first 8 min and then walked one mile. The rest I did at 5.3 mph/4.0 - as I said, to keep my HR in the zone. Avg pace for the run was 12:18 min/mile. Avg HR was 121 with a max of 145 bpm. I could have run further, had I had the time.
I went to the gym next. Today I got a PR with the assisted pull up machine. If you aren't familiar with them, the weight you set it the weight it removes from your body weight that you are pulling up. I have been struggling to get 12 - 15 reps at 90 pounds. Today, I did 20 reps at 90 pounds, so went down (up) to 80 pounds and did two sets of 10 reps. At this rate, I may get an unassisted pull up in 2 more years. LOL I also did battle ropes, back extensions, and inclined crunches.
