@RubyRed427 I thought about a Fit Bit before. But I believe it is like a watch worn on your wrist. I really don't like wearing watches. My hands are constantly in water. It may seem weird, but except my wedding ring, I don't wear any type of jewelry at all (my husband is probably happy about that πŸ™‚). I also have never worn makeup, had a manicure or a pedicure. I'm just kind of a shorts and T-shirt type of gal. That's how I grew up. And I guess…somethings never change.

I pay for premium because I do track my macros. I also like to track my fiber and potassium intake. I'm really not sure what the free version of MFP includes. I have no idea if it tracks your weight and measurements. But, I don't mind paying $20 a month. I spend that much (or more) in two days on alcohol ☹️

You're going to laugh…but I have a pedometer that I just put in my pocket. It's very low-tech. But, it seems fairly accurate. Even if it's not 100% accurate, I can still tell if I'm improving or not from day to day with my steps. I haven't been using it lately. As soon as I get a AF day, I will put it back in my pocket.

Feel free to tell me more about the Fit Bit if you feel that there's something that I don't understand about it. I'm still kind of old school.

@LittleSurferGirl7 re your comments on fitbit and your hands constantly in water - a fitbit is waterproof. Most activity trackers/fitness watches are, because they expect you to wear it when swiming, sweating, showering, etc. I have been wearing a fitbit for about 5 years and while they are buggy at times in reporting activity to MFP, I've never had an issue with water. I don't swim, but I sometimes shower with it on.

I'm not fond of wearing a watch and I hate having to recharge all the time and its various issues. OTOH, I find it invaluable to keep me on track. Because it tells me how many calories I've burned and how many steps I walk, and it (usually) updates calories burned to MFP. With me tracking calories going in, I have a good gauge to keep me in a calorie deficit. And I've lost (since I started wearing fitbit) 70 pounds. So that's a major plus in the minor annoyances it has.

I am not going to advocate for fitbit because it does have issues. OTOH, I bought a more expensive Polar watch when fitbit stopped posting exercise calories to MFP. After about a month, fitbit fixed the bug, and I went back to wearing it rather than the polar. All trackers have their various issues, and Fitbit was, in some respects, better than the Polar watch. At least for me. Also the fitbit is pretty inexpensive. My first one is still working, though after 4 years the band connector crumbled. I glued the connection with superglue, but replaced it. The device itself still works. Not bad for 99$. The Fitbit Charge6 I replaced it with was only about 60 on sale. And the first one came with a year's Premium subscription. The Charge6 came with a six month premium subscription. The free premium subscription just ran out but I didn't renew it. The extra features that come with PRemium aren't things I use. (guided workouts, sleep score, etc).

Some people like Garmin trackers. I tried one, but after half a day of mowing grass, it didn't record any steps, because my arm wasn't swinging so I returned it. I get a lot of exercise mowing, so that was a deal breaker. The fitbit did not have that issue.

@patriciafoley1 That is interesting that they are waterproof. I still don't like wearing a watch. I had to wear one (just a cheap Casio) when I was a meter reader in SoCal. When I started, we where still using paper documents that were fed into a computer. Later, we got handheld computers which showed the time. But when I did have to wear the watch, you should have seen me. I was in the sun all day. I was living at my Mom's house and my brother came in one morning to wake me up. He said, "You need to start taking your watch off!" My arms and legs (we wore shorts) were very deep brown. But I had a white stripe around my left wrist (which would blind you).

It's great that the Fitbit did help you lose weight. But I'm really getting tired of technology. For me, it would probably be a nightmare trying to link it to MFP. I think I'll just stick to being really active (once I quit drinking that is). Drinking has not only added extra empty calories but I also don't eat like I usually do and I'm not able to do a lot of the physical things that I normally do.

I had read that before that the watch type step trackers wouldn't count your steps if you were carrying a box or laundry basket and like you mentioned mowing the lawn because your arms aren't' swinging.

Thank you for the info though! Have a nice day!

@deepwoodslady You're off to a good start. I'm kind of new to all of this…I don't understand what a "Trend Weight" is?

Anyways, keep up the good work!

Re: Comment "I know I will mix a drink soon though. I don't need it. It's more of a routine."

I wonder if you could just fill the two pints with something of the same color such as straight ice tea etc.?

When the urge to go and pour a drink out of habit hits, it would then be there for the hand-to-mouth and habit of pouring, but would be AF ?

When I quit smoking cigs I actually made fake cigarettes. I used straws (red ones) and kept the cigarette feeling paper on them. (Burger King uses red straws). I would cut the tip of paper off to see the red so it looked lit. I put bean bad ashtrays in my car, where I normally sat to talk on the phone and near my kitchen table for after I eat and kept waiting "cigs" in them. I also carried some in my purse in a pack. Each place they were cut off to the length of my normal cigs. I actually did not even need to suck on them. I just needed to feel it between my fingers, bring it near my mouth occasionally, see it on my steering wheel in my fingers as I drove, out of the corner of my eye between my fingers as I talked on the phone etc. I also used sugar free starlight mints to signal an end sometimes to the cigarette (like toothpaste after a meal when you brush). It was all trickery but it worked. I have been smoke free since 2007 (18 YEARS!) I smoked 3 packs a day and I had smoked for 35 years.

Just an idea because this girl understands the addiction of HABITUAL practices such as lighting that cig or pouring that glass.

The new "habit" of pouring your tea etc. can turn into something really healthy later, like a nice warm cup of green tea a couple of times a day. THAT would help you lose weight and has a bunch of health benefits.

I hope this helps. I'm with you, my friend, on how difficult this can be. You got this!

@deepwoodslady Thanks for the suggestion. But, putting iced tea in the pint bottles wouldn't work because in the morning I use iced tea as my mixer with lemon wedges. I mix my drinks pretty light. I use a 16 oz tumbler, add ice, and for my first drink I add a full jigger. But, afterwards, when I freshen it up, I just add a half of a jigger. I waited until 10:30 this morning to mix a drink. Right now, the drink seems too weak (I can barely taste the whiskey). I guess the iced tea is too strong πŸ˜€ But, that's not a bad idea. I really feel I've got this. The only problem is my birthday being on Saturday. I haven't not had a drink on my birthday in forever. But I really don't feel the need right now. I will keep you all posted.

I also quit smoking in 2007. I too smoked 2 to 3 packs a day. My husband and I both quit at the same time. I got a prescription for Chantix from my doctor, but I could afford to fill it. My husband got the full 12-week course from the VA. So, we decided to share his. We figured if it really worked, we could use the money we were saving to have my script filled. I only took it for 2 1/2 weeks and stopped taking it. My husband didn't finish the rest of it either (at the end, he just forgot to take it). Neither of us has wanted a cigarette since. It would be nice if they had something like Chantix for alcohol. I imagine someday they will.

I have trouble remembering everyone's status with alcohol. I'm also involved with the "Less Alcohol" group. There's a couple in that group that have long AF streaks (basically no longer drink). I don't think you've ever mentioned (at least since I've joined this challenge). Do you drink at all? Did you ever drink? If you have quit, how long has it been? Also, @walkintofit said that going alcohol free can be very liberating.

If you both don't mind sharing it would be helpful to know what your drinking statuses are now. And, if you ever drank, when you quit, etc.

And, @deepwoodslady thanks for the list of acronyms!

Well, I've got a drip irrigation project that I'm going to try to get done today…at least the major part.

    I'll check back later!
