We have a mandarin tree in our little orchard which has born fruit!
It was delicious, but just slightly dry, so I might have to take the other two off today. Evidently they dry a bit if you leave them on too long. I've never grown mandarins before!

Smart Scale - we've had a couple of them for a few years that shows me bone density and a number of other things. After looking at it for a bit, I started to ignore those things and right now, the scale in my bathroom is set up with my husband's age and height. π One days I should probably adjust it for me.
Because I exercise a lot, including weight bearing exercise, I'm not too concerned about bone density and losing muscle mass.
Travelling - I love to travel and have been to a few countries: Canada, US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Taiwan, UK (Scotland, England & Wales), France, Germany, The Netherlands, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Unfortunately money (or the lack of it) gets in the way sometimes. When I don't travel for a few months, I get really restless and fortunately, even going to a different part of the state (Australian) or province (Canadian) where I am living at the time helps.
Our last trip was in April. This weekend is a 4-day long weekend for me, and I would normally have arranged to travel somewhere, but the fact that we're staying home speaks to how exhausted I am these days. May was a long, long month.
It's been my goal to cycle in as many provinces in Canada, states in Australia and states in the US as possible β¦ and I'm over halfway there. I'd have to dig out my list to see.
But I have cycled in all 6 states in Australia: New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia. And I've cycled in 1 of the territories: ACT.
In Canada, I've cycled in: BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. I've visited the NWT and Quebec, but did not cycle there. I really want to get into the Maritime provinces!
In the US, I think I've cycled in 30-something states. Again, I'd have to dig out my list.

I loved my Greenpan ceramic non-stick skillet. When I saw this at Costco, I got so excited, I bought it. It is a three pan set for less than I paid form my 12 inch skillet (which came with a lid). I love this set. I usually only cook for myself so I use the smallest skillet the most. I poach eggs in it every morning and I put salt in the bottom of the small skillet and put a piece of salmon in skin down and then turn on the flame at medium. About 4 minutes on each side and the salmon is done.
Today, I got two of the new shrubs planted. My bed had not been mulched and had a lot of grass that had grown into it. I spent most of the time digging a deeper trench around the bed and removing the grass. I bought a really low growing juniper for the outer edge. I realized that the landscaper had planted the 3 dwarf burford hollies too high so dug them up and re-planted them. It drives me crazy that people don't realize that there is a proper depth for plants. The young man that was helping me kept putting soil on top of the crowns. I would explain that plants breathe and that they suffocate if their crown is covered. And he would do it again. I just kept telling him and scraping off the dirt. Argghh. We have several more days of work so I hope that I can get that habit broken.
Trying to mix the mulch to get the right color did not work. It doesn't look uniform at all. I am going to finish this bed with another layer of just cedar mulch and then do the next bed in all cedar. The Texas hardwood mulch is almost black and I am afraid that it will absorb so much sun that it cooks my plants.
I was thrilled to find two earthworms while we were digging. I used to do vermiculture and this young man was just a boy when I was doing it. He told me today that he had been afraid of worms until being around my worm farm. He would see me sorting the worms and was amazed that I wasn't afraid of them.
I hope everyone has a lovely day!

Smart Scales - I've had a WW smart scale for more than 20 years - got it when I had the gastric bypass. They work by sending a very, very small trickle charge up one leg and down the other and measuring the resistance your body has to the charge, so make sure you weigh barefoot. The charge is generated by the watch batteries in it, so I don't feel the bit of charge at all, but it does take a second or two. My ex-husband's measurements are still on mine! Occasionally I'll check my own percentages, and it does give you some idea of whether or not you're staying hydrated, as well, or at least mine does.
Elaine - Had to ask, is your Glypnirs Girl username from the third binding of Fenrir, son of Loki? If not, then not, I just thought it sounded familiar. Would love to see pictures of the plantings!
Pip - Both you and Machka have vividly shown that training for bicycle riding and training for running are two very different things, and as a non-athlete, I would never have thought that would be the case. I'm sure the overall fitness levels help a lot, but totally different demands on the body, it sounds like.
Mo - Your story saddens me, and I'm so terribly sorry you went through that. Unfortunately, though, it doesn't surprise me. One in four women have been sexually abused as children. I don't ever expect anyone to volunteer their story when they have no need or want to do so, but I've seldom shared my story and not gotten at least one shared in return. For me, being open was the only way to heal. "We're only as sick as our secrets," was a large part of the wreckage of my first marriage. My first husband simply couldn't acknowledge his own childhood history and get help for it.
Barbara - Well done on your weight loss journey!
Machka - Well done on your loss since January!
Well⦠I've been up since midnight, and it's nearly 2 a.m. my time, and I'm headed back to bed, see if I can get a few more hours. Got to see my VA primary care doctor in the early afternoon.
Hope Friday's a good day for everyone,
Love,

Good morning, friends,
ο»ΏI work only 2 days and will be off until Next Thursday. DH is leaving this Saturday. I waited till he went to bed before I did the dishes and loaded them in the dishwasher. I had a wonderful, quiet day upstairs while he was downstairs studying for his insurance license and watching his beloved Chinese dramas.
I was answering a young co-worker who adopted me as her 2nd mom on how to get her baby to sleep without being held constantly. Then, I was updating another friend on our unit. Then I put away my laundry. DH doesn't want me to do his laundry. So I folded my towels, and soon I will put them away. I like everything done before I start my stretch. I am glad that I spent the entire day without a headache. My allergies were bad because my yard was in full bloom. Plus, the yard was mowed. Lastly, I didn't take my allergy medicine right away. Rose let me know that DH didn't make her food the way she liked. So I did, and she made a happy plate.
Michelle, when the mom decided by the encouragement of the family to save the baby, they put in a trach, and she is on a home vent. They put in a G-tube to feed through her stomach. Plastic Surgery, put in slits for eyes and mouth. They created a nose for her as well. It is hard to look at.
Beth, DH has been in the bedding industry for over 2 decades, and he said that mattress takes a while to break in. He said that they should have fitted you and your DH with a proper mattress. You two may need a king with two twins to have a mattress that works for each of you. My DH wouldn't like that, but good sleep is essential to life.
Lorna, out of curiosity, does your son have a relationship with your son/grandson or a brotherly one now that he is older?
Rori, I love that you travel, but ocean swimming terrifies meβsharks, rip tides, and not being able to get to shore. I encountered rip tides before, and it scared me.
Lisa, you and Corey are busy bees, but you do fantastic work. You imagine and do it.
Rebecca, you are looking great! I want to hug your sister's dog. He is beautiful.
Well, you all take care and have some fun.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

Barbie: I put the things in spoilers so that it takes up less space on others screens.
Barbara: The heel pain was gone very quickly after I started the physio. I have kept the foam prop in the bed in the hope that it doesnβt happen again.
Smart scales: I found my smart digital scale so much more useful than my old mechanical one, Even though I βgainedβ 8 lbs when I first stepped on it. πLisa: great progress on your demolition project.
Like some others, I find my passion for travel waning somewhat as I get older.Having a relatively restful morning catching up, and the prospect of a pleasant afternoon with my card making buddies to follow.

Terri - first thing I did was compare it to my regular digital scale (which is about .5lbs different than my doctorβs) and was giddy to not have arbitrary weight βgainβ just from changing scales! It was only .3lbs different. Whewβ¦π
Lanette - yes, I did get it from Amazon. After some research, I went with the GE Smart Body Fat Scale (hate that name) with BMI for Body Weight and Fat Percentage Composition. What I love is that rather than programming the scale for one person, itβs Bluetooth so you download a free app, build your profile (height, weight, age, gender, etc) then, just click on the βweighing inβ button before getting on the scale and it automatically sends all your metrics to the app. Means you can track and watch the trends over time as well as have as many users track privately as want to. Itβs a modest price point too!
Hope everyone has a good day today!

Hey, guys,
Kim texted very, very early this morning to let me know she's OK. After the tumor was removed, a blood clot formed and they had to go back in and remove that, as well. They're keeping a close eye on her, I'm sure. Keep those good thoughts rolling toward northern California, y'all.
Love,

yes. The longer it gets, the curlier it is. It is straight as a string when short. My husbandβs is the same way. She has a fair amount of curl at shoulder length.

@glypnirsgirl β¦ I am missing warmth and long daylight hours because I would like to do a lot more with our garden. We use sugarcane mulch which is a very light coloured mulch.
@LisaInArkansas β¦ yes, different sports use different muscles. Even climbing stairs uses different muscles or parts of muscles from cycling or running β¦ but in that case, it's mainly because of the descent. The muscles used going up stairs are similar to what we use when we cycle up hills. Climbing up stairs has really assisted me with my cycling hill climbing. But going down stairs is very different. It might be sort of comparable to running or walking down steep hills. When you go down a lot of flights of stairs, when you're not used to it, you'll feel it in your calves.
Thanks for letting us know about Kim and I'm glad she's OK. Of course, she'll have a recovery period and I hope she can rest for a while.
@mcmillonmail β¦ I'm glad you're not working too much this coming week and I'm glad you had a day without a headache!
@cityjaneLondon β¦ I like the blue colours.
@drkatiebug β¦ that's the way mine is. Quite straight when it is short, ringlets when it is long.
@Proudlyblonde β¦ that your scale connects to an app sounds interesting!

Sorry! I dropped bomb then dropped out of sight.
Granddaughter had a concussion and bruises. She was sore for a couple of days. She went back to work on Wednesday. She made a bad decision at a tricky intersection. She was making a left off a side street onto a 5 lane road. She apparently looked left, looked right, and neglected to look left again. Inexperience led to collision. More experience and her reaction would have been better and collision most likely avoided. For now, her family is getting her to and from work. She is missing her car. She goes to court on Monday morning. Two offenses in less than 6 months..β¦we shall see. She hasn't had her license a year yet. I have told her not to make that left. I always turn right, go up to shopping center and turn around to go back west. Maybe she will have learned her lesson....maybe....
I am fine just busy. More later.
Love to all!

Today was cold and windy and cycling wasn't appealing so I decided to do a walk/run.
Out of the 6.5 km I covered, I ran 2.6 km.
By "ran", I mean that I jogged slowly. π
That's good.
I still have in mind that I might like to do a short triathlon - a Try-a-Tri.
As seen on the chart below, I might be interested in the Sprint or Super Sprint distances.
I know I could cycle up to the 90 km distance right now.
I could run/walk up to about 5 km now or maybe 10 km at a stretch. I can walk 10 km.
Swimming, however β¦ once a week, I'm doing about 150 metres. On my back, I could probably manage about 200 metres.
So I've got a way to go with the swimming!! π

Ah⦠the tornado siren just fell silent again. Third time this morning. Mildly unnerving that - glad it's near enough to the house we can hear it going off, but it goes off if there's a tornado anywhere on the ground in a fairly wide radius.
Happened to be on the phone with Corey for his good morning call and he said one had been sighted near Sallisaw, OK, about 30 miles away - listening to live news, and there is a tornado on the ground in Alma, AR, moving about 50 miles an hour east, about eight miles south of me, already east of me.
Typical time on the ground for a tornado is five to ten minutes, if you weren't aware. They can do a lot of damage in that small amount of time, of course. Squall lines, like this one, tend to produce short-duration tornadoes. It's the big supercell clouds that are the most dangerous. Not saying this one isn't dangerous, it's just less so.
At the moment, the rain is just pounding, expecting an inch in the next few hours, so flooding is accompanying all this⦠tornado season when you live in tornado alley is always interesting. Keeping an eye on the live weather updates, and not saying there's no possibility of problems, but they're mostly coming through south of me, and east of me.
Time for some breakfast.
Later, my dears,
Love,
Lisa in AR9 -
π Lynn, I don't think it's obsessive to do the things that contribute to good habits. I do a lot of things that I'm sure people would think were obsessive or crazy but they have contributed to my losing 50 pounds and keeping it off through thick and thin. I couldn't get a smart scale before because whatever it did would have interfered with my husband's implanted defibrillator. Now hearing about the scale again, I'm tempted to buy one. Thanks for sharing the info about the one you bought. I'm going to think about it.
π Heather, your table is beautiful. If I ever had company, I'd want my table to look like that.
π Lisa, thanks for letting us know about Kim. I am thinking lots of healing thoughts for her.
π Kylia, thanks for the update on granddaughter. One of the lessons I remember from the AARP safe driving class was to choose a route with right turns not left and I have continued to follow that guidance for the 20+ years since I took the class.
π Pip, your consistency is inspiring. Is there a link for making a contribution to your ride?
π Kay, I was a lover of curly haired dogs with the poodles I had for 17 years but now with Annie, I am happy with a sleek dog.
π Allie, have you thought about not giving in to the cravings and finding things to do to distract yourself?
π Barbara, you've done great with your weight loss. I would have liked to weigh less but my doctor assured me that at my age, a little extra weight was healthy.
π Super hot here yesterday but I did my work in the yard early and watered later in the day. Today promises to be the same. It's nearly time to transplant the little sprouts of pumpkin and sunflowers. I've kept it simple.
π Today I line dance with my friend. I have a new toy for Annie to help entertain her. I keep a box of balls and a leash in the dance room in case they are needed to distract or calm her.
π My hair was naturally curly when I was younger. Of course, I wished for straight hair. In my 30's I got it permed to look like Betty Boop. Here is a picture of me with curly hair and with the giant glasses frames I wish I could find.

Lanette β¦ I'm pretty sure that was the 12" Hex Clad that they were using in the video
Barbara β¦ in our area the "30 day" thing is part of the contract with mattress warranties. All of the stores in the area do the same thing.
Mo β¦ thank you for sharing your DH's input on the mattress. Interesting that it takes a long break in period. It's been 10 days so far and I'm hurting more and more each morning. It's going to go back on day 31. I am so sorry to hear that you were abused as a child. This world is so sick.
It's cooler and rainy here today. Running errands and they will probably visit my mother for a short visit this afternoon.

Peonies are in bloom. Love them but they do like it a bit on the cool side. 70's their favorite. 90's not so much!

Lisa - sending good thoughts in your direction that you stay out of harm's way with the tornado warning. Thanks so much for the update on Kim. Hope she can go home soon and resume her normal activities. Healing thoughts heading her way as well.
Heather - that table setting is exquisite. Love your no-mow lawn. Enjoy the time with SIL.
Lynn - thanks for the lead on the Smart scale. Interesting how they work and yes, the price isn't bad at all. I wonder if my gym uses one, I'll have to check.
Elaine - you should be a Master Gardener. π When I took the training over 10 years ago, most of my classmates were retirees. Even tho I'm no longer in the program, I think I use information I learned in it all the time. We had a vermiculture class and I still have the tote that I used to raise worms. One reason my lawn looks so ragged is that many of the weed and feed type fertilizers aren't good for earthworms. And I realize I don't have a Green Pan skillet, it's a Green Life purchased at KMart 10 years ago. I miss that store. π₯
Barbie - yes, our heat wave is on the way. My cut-off time for working outside will be around 10 am.
Kylia - thank you for the update on granddaughter's mishap. I know I often avoid left hand turns and do the right turn thing. I assume most other drivers are maniacs (on their phones, impaired from meds or drugs, can't see or are distracted, lol). Yes, perhaps she'll learn to be a more careful driver through all of this. My DH always said the worst drivers on the road are teenage girls.
Kay - the photos of Possum look like my little Schnauzer Rosie before and after her 12 week clip. I bet Possum's hair will grow back quickly. I keep Rosie's beard and moustache trimmed pretty short, otherwise they get matted - she has finer hair than a standard Schnauzer.
Speaking of Rosie, she's barking her fool head off at a doe across the street in Roger's yard right now. I wonder if it's the mama of the fawn in my back yard. So far Rosie hasn't wanted to go exploring back there, or maybe she wants to but I call her back when she wanders off in that direction.
Working on my discussion points for my visit with Dr. Lisa this morning.

Lisa - I lived in OKC for almost 20 years during my mid childhood to about age 30. Those sirens are unnerving for sure! Two of my siblings still live in the OKC/Norman areas and Iβm always keeping extra tabs on them during storm season. My older sisterβs house got hit in the middle of the night last summer and it took out about half of the house.
Stay safe and know that the stress of living in tornado alley is shared. Even though I no longer live there, 2 pieces of my heart still do!

Lorna, I took Karate in my 30βs. I got as far as a 3rd gup green belt. I was taking it with my first DH. Tang So Do was the discipline. What type are you taking?
Lucy biting: I am happy to report she is not biting as hard or as much any more. What Iβm doing is that if she bites too hard, I surprise yell OUCH, and slowly take my hand away and ignore her for a second or two. That is what the proβs on Google told me to do. It is working. Calling it a Time Out. If I jerk my hand, she bites harder to keep a hold of it, so I have to resist my initial urge to pull away. She went for puppy shots yesterday and the vet was impressed with her behavior. Had him cut her nails again just to get her used to that. In one month she gets her Rabies and next shots. Wicket (13 yo) gets her checkup and shots in August then Lucy goes for spaying in September. My doctor appointments have calmed down, but the Vet has taken over! LOL
Found and rescued this today on our morning walk. Lucy was really interested in it!
Yesterday, my friend K gave me this, just because:

Lynn - Thank youβ¦ Quite a few pieces of my heart live in Oklahoma, as well. Sounds kinda like a country song. π₯° My baby sister's in Southwestern OK, near Lawton, as are her two sons and her oldest daughter. I've driven through Norman more than once. Our excitement of the morning has moved far past me, hopefully calmed down a bit as it moved further into Arkansas.
Heather - Lovely place setting, the colors make me feel very serene. Calming. Enjoy your time with Sue!
Barbie - Love the glasses - I just made an appointment to get my eyes checked. Starting to have trouble seeing in low light again.
Regarding curly hair: Mine is insanely curly - one of those curls that doesn't get longer, it gets bigger. One of the many reasons I keep it quite short, as it is quite straight and manageable when it's short.
Have to leave in a half hour to head into town, reading everyone's posts, as always, but a little skimpy on the response side.
Kim texted again a couple hours ago - she's keeping it together, but talking is painful after being intubated for hours on end. Everything is still inflamed and swollen due to the complications, so her vision is impacted as well, hard for her to read or text. Just⦠keeping a good thought.
Regarding traveling alone - not scared of the traveling part. I was a flight attendant for a while, and traveled for work for many years, all over the U.S. It's the worry of having something go wrong healthwise without help that makes Corey my security blanket at this point. Traveling doesn't scare me. My body scares me.
All that said, deciding to put it to the side again for the rest of the spring and the summer was kind of a weight lifted.
Love y'all,

Today I fixed a wrap with two slices of low sodium spam fried in a nice shiitake sesame dressing, with a strong rugged aged cheddar on top then put in a protein tortilla with mixed greens. It was lovely. Will have a healthy portion of raw veggies with 3 T of fat free dressing for dinner with a Rebel protein shake. Now sipping on a nice summer tea.
Starbucks version of a "medicine ball" tea
Splash of Real lemon juice in bottom of large container coffee mug/thermos
Sprinkle of sugar free lemonade mix
T of honey
Bag of mint tea and peach herbal tea.
Seep and mix well
To me its a bright flavor.
