Good Monday,
I had typed last night then had friends stop by.…i must have forgotten to save.
I love the photos of porches, decks, flowers, kids, and fur babies! What great ideas for planting.
Speaking of fur babies…mine earned their stripes yesterday. They both caught mice! Tory was so excited to share with me once. When I tried to take it away though, she growled at me. I left them be. A short time later she was ready to come on but Cali was occupied. They played a little rough but surprisingly didn't eat. Strange.
Barbara- You are correct. I am having laser removal of scar tissue from my cataract surgery. It is a quick, in office procedure. My right eye currently sees double and blurry. The scar tissue more than doubled in that eye in a year. The left eye has it but is still minimal. This is tomorrow afternoon.
Pip- You are welcome! Great cause and you are an inspiration to us all!
Tracey - I think the bells and whistles are cool on the vehicles, but also feel it promotes less attentive driving. I was trying to back out of a tight spot at work the other day when my truck locked up the brakes! Seriously, I saw my spotter, but the truck wouldn't go as it felt it was too close! The collision avoidance has activated once when the car in front of me locked their brakes up. Accident avoided, but the warning bells and sudden braking was shocking to me. I love a stick! Just not on the city.
I should get some walking in this morning. Won't get 20k, but hey, 15 mins is better than nothing!
Allie- I hope things go well for Sean in court.
Kim -Healing prayers!
Lots of love,
Kylia in stormy again Ohio

Criminy that was weird,my post sort of went off into nowhere..anyway..she built this place to bring the girls out for the summers.
This was called the dormitory as it used to have 5 single beds on it .
Used to sleep 18 people the back to sleeping porches were for the maids.quite posh for the early 1900s
Now that my 32 yr old nephew has lived here solo for the last few years he has done quite a bit of work on it that has been needed to be done, but also lives like a slob, drives my brother nuts
Oh well..today Seans job starts at 2 and he works till 8.we will running some errands earlier today. It's chilly.this morning but im snuggled under the covers and happy.

My hungry stage starts with the decision to lose weight and diminishes in half at about 72 hours.
Then about 2 weeks in, the hungries are pretty much gone.
Except for the occasional day where I suddenly feel like I could clear out the fridge. But by the next day, I'm usually OK again.
I don't mind a grumbling belly … usually black coffee, water and maybe a sugar-free candy or two will settle things.
It's when I feel dizzy and hangry that there's a problem. 😩😜
😀 Machka, I enjoyed reading your schedule. I think it helps to have a plan that includes hydration, feeding, exercise, and other important things so you don't get to the end of the day wondering what you've accomplished or waste time trying to decide what to do next.
I'm pretty good with the things I included in that schedule.
And I'm good knowing what to do next at work.
It's when I sit down in my chair after work and after dinner that I can't decide what to do next. I know what I want to do … but I struggle with decision fatigue when it comes to what I should be doing.
@grandmallie … what's that red trip hazard to the left of the bed? 😮😮
About Groceries … I order them online and have them delivered. Delivery is often free but occasionally might be a few dollars. I don't mind paying a few dollars now and then because it is so worth having the groceries appear at the door! The whole process is a lot less stress and less time than going to a grocery store.
I sit in my comfy chair with a program on TV, and make my selections. I'm really not fussed if I get one container of rice or another, or one bag of frozen veg or another. I don't need to make my own personal selections. I'm just glad I'm not out there walking the aisles in the evening after work.
When it comes to produce, I order some online, but I work within walking distance of a fresh fruit and veg market so if I want to make my own selection, I'll walk there at lunch.
And now … I must go grocery shopping! 😄

Good morning, my chicks… and happy Monday that is, was, or will be…
Corey had a good Father's Day, our son texted him back and forth in the morning, daughter called him last night, he got quite a bit of the wall work done in the back bedroom that he wanted to, and he made an absolutely outstanding dinner.
I varied from my usual request of shrimp, and had the tender from his T- bone. He ate the strip (plus half my tender, I seldom eat steak) and grilled a sweet potato for me, and regular ones for him. Dessert a bit later was a cheesecake that he made the day before, lots of time to set up and chill. A small slice was plenty for me. The rest is in the freezer already.
Tracey - the cost of your dinner out with Rodger was surprisingly low, it would have been more expensive here! Probably close to a hundred bucks in a restaurant. Keeping food costs low is easier for us because we have the benefit of a lot of storage space, including the two freezers.
It means we can almost always wait until meat or other expensive items are on sale, or buy in bulk when necessary and freeze or store in vacuum bags. We no longer have a Sam's Club subscription to get bulk items, but I'm contemplating it… I dropped the account a year ago next month, and we still have enough paper goods (toilet tissue and paper towels) for months to come, honestly. I stocked up before I dropped the subscription. 😂 Yes, I am a teensy bit of a hoarder.
Autumn - You've got plenty of good advice from others, so just a welcome from me. Glad you're here!
I'm in the process of extricating myself from Amazon - I need to download all the photos I've got up there. I pushed a lot of them up many years ago, as it was part of Prime, but then decided that I didn't like the idea of a tech company keeping them hostage, so I stopped. They may all be duplicates of ones I have, but I need to find out, and get them downloaded if they're unique.
Not getting rid of Amazon as a whole, just the Prime part of it, which is the spendy bit. Will still be able to get what I need from them, which honestly is very little.
The only rain (so far) in the offing is Wednesday afternoon, so I'll pop out soon with my rubber boots on and wade through the wet grass and get some of the last bits and pieces picked up where the little house was… so much broken glass, bits of cans, toys, etc. just scattered about. Again, not from the demolition - they saved all the windows they could. This is just from those who lived there throwing whatever they didn't want in the yard.
Corey welded up my trailer this weekend, too, so I can haul some brush if I need to, but shouldn't need to this morning.
Later, my babies,
Love,

Good morning my friends!
My Dad stayed up until midnight last night. He was watching football reruns and kept saying he wanted to see the end of the game. It was frustrating for me. His Trazodone is supposed to help him go to bed at night but maybe the dose is low.
Machka I was a java programmer for a couple years but it was back around 2000. My first program was in Basic in 1977 or so. I did a little web development with a little SQL but not with modern tools. I had some certifications for cyber security but I don't really like the actual work. So serious. I know nothing about the cloud beyond a few definitions. I have a master's in Computer Science but again that was in the early 2000s.
I really enjoyed designing my own algorithms. That part used to be creative. I think my favorite language was machine language. Such tight control. I'm intrigued by a language called Dart for both android and apple phones. So I might buy a book.
So my skills could definitely use an update, even if it's only a backup employment plan. I'm not sure what will happen when my Dad moves on, so it would be wise to be prepared.
And by the way, my mom planted a lovely camellia with huge pink flowers tucked into a perfect protected spot. Yay!
Hmm. I'm breaking this into two posts.

😀 Barbara, according to our Amazon history, the two stainless steel hoses are from different companies. Rcfunkid and 360Gadget. I live right off US 101 (close enough to hear the traffic and to walk to it) so I could head for the grocery store and change plans and stay on US 101 for ten hours and get to you. It would be a beautiful drive.
😀 Michele, I am assuming that the green stuff on my vinyl fence was mold. I wiped off almost easily after geing sprayed with vinegar. The fence is clean and beautiful now (except for the half panel that's blocked by the still blooming iris).
😀 Autumn, as others have suggested, adding more protein will help you go longer without hunger. Two things I remember from my early days on this journey were that when I started taking long walks in the morning and coming home light headed, that I had to add a protein heavy snack in the morning and there were other times when I just had to keep myself busy for an hour until my scheduled meal. The more active you are, the more nourishment you need. It takes practice to distinguish between hunger and boredom.
😀 Heather, when my mother died in 1991 I kept all her china, glassware, silverware and a lot of other beautiful things. After bringing them along on several moves, I had a good idea of what I used and didn't use and boxed up everything I didn't use and gave them to Jake's daughter telling her that they were hers and I wouldn't ask her what she did with them. She was free to keep them, sell them in her husband's pawn shop, give them to someone else, or throw them away. It was a great decision for me. I found out what she did with one set of china but otherwise have no idea what happened to the rest of it. i was able to get over the feeling that I was looking for the perfect new home for all those things. I have pots, dishes, utensils, paintings, and small pieces of furniture that were my mother's or my grandmother's and I use them and treasure them.
😀 Allie, I had trouble sleeping last night so I was able to finish the book I was reading on the Kindle app on my phone and start a new book. Even so, Annie woke me early and we got up so I have extra time this morning to spend with all of you.
😀 cards—-what beautiful cards. I admire them but am more like the couple who went to the store together, picked out cards for each other, read them and returned to cards to the rack so they didn't bring anything more into their small home.
😀 The grass hasn't been growing so I am spared mowing for awhile, but a few weeds have popped up and with no rain, watering is a daily chore. I thank the stainless steel hose every day for being so easy to use.

Hello again!
Rebecca Happy birthday!
Lanette as far as calories for an unknown item, like the chimichanga I had at a restaurant last week, this is what I do. First I consider whether I had all the trimmings and the size. Then I look it up as a food item on MFP and usually get a range of possibilities. If it was large, I ate it all, and had guacamole and sour cream on it, I use the high number; otherwise I look for a number in the middle of the range. So my approach is a little more about convenience than accuracy but it works for me.
Kim You are working hard to keep your mom safe despite many challenges. Remember that the target is safe enough. The idea of perfectly totally safe is imaginary, too many resources and too many restrictions...And I am so glad you can read a little. Yay!
Pip I am so intrigued by Zwift and ROUVY and all that. I get on my stationary bike and ride to music, but I would be motivated by the social and competitive aspects. At least I think so. But I'm not quite convinced to spend the money on the setup, and I don't have a place to put it here. Just dreaming!
Lisa rain here too. So dreary.
Heather a goat cheese and mint tart sounds delicious!...What cruise do you have planned?
Autumn others mentioned protein. You have fiber. One more element IMHO is making peace with my hunger. I know my hunger signals are messed up. I know hunger won't hurt me (presuming no disorder issues). So when I'm hungry I try a glass of water, and telling myself if I'm still hungry in an hour, I can eat something smart and small. Then I make an effort to distract myself.
Margaret you have lovely windows!
Rita 116 in June! Wow August is going to be dangerous. Can you soak your feet in cold water?
Kylia hello! Hope the eye surgery goes well smoothly.
Carla beautiful flowers on your deck!
Michele you are another exercise superstar with your DVDs!
Tracey I agree with you about modern cars having too many bells and whistles. I can answer my phone on my steering wheel, but that doesn't mean I can talk and drive safely.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

anniesquats100- I asked Kirby, he said the spin bike cost around 5 or 600 when we bought it, but he looked and said it cost 800 now. The computer we already have. The app he says cost 200 bucks a year or 20 a month for 2 people. The bike trainer (hook up my bike to the trainer) was more expensive, that cost 1000 or so.
When we both ride, he gets on the spin bike and I get on the bike trainer that has my bike on it. When I am on my bike, that’s more realistic and harder because I have to shift gears like when I am out on the road (when getting to a hill). The spin bike has a knob to turn the gear to make it harder or easier, it’s like a spin bike that you see at a gym. Mine has a little screen that shows you different stuff like speed, gear, mph, etc…
The stuff is not worth it if you don’t use it, waste of money, but as you can see, I use it. Also, ROUVY app is a lot cheaper than Zwift which was another reason for the change.
MS money raised is now at $480. Was at $80 for the longest time.thanks again.

Annie, yes, technology moves very quickly.
I'm fortunate, in a way, that I chose to head into the database world after my degree because SQL has been used for a long time and is still being used. Although, I suppose that Python might be the next language I dabble in, especially if we make the move into data lakes and things at some point. However, I'm still learning all things data. There's hardly a week that goes by where I don't learn something new.
But one possibility that some of my fellow students got into after graduation was doing some freelance work creating websites. I dabble in that too … working on my own and helping out with my cycling club's website.
You might already know about Upwork: https://www.upwork.com/ It's mainly freelance work - someone posts a job, and people put in proposals for the job.
Browse some of the jobs. Pop in some of your skills and see what's out there … and where your gaps are.
A few years ago, I started doing that with job ads on Indeed, Seek, etc. If a place wanted someone with SQL + Azure, I'd add Azure to the list because it's something I don't have. That way I created a list of things I might need to familiarise myself with.

Did a whole bunch of nothing yesterday I didn’t go to work after all. Didn’t feel quite right and this is a volunteer job after all. I read most of the day.
This morning, Lucy woke me up at 6 am, very early for me, so I got up and took her for a long walk. She is currently out cold. I’m still sleepy but will wait till the afternoon to take a nap.
Lucy and Wicket getting along for a bit (short bit! LOL). Lucy’s ears are weird. Some days they stand up right straight. Yesterday she looked like the flying nun! LOL
Happy Birthday Rebecca!

Great joke, Rita!
A man goes to a psychiatrist. He says, 'I had a weird dream. I dreamt I was a wigwam, then I dreamt I was a tepee. What's the matter with me?' The psychiatrist says, 'You're too tense.' (Two tents )

Happy belated birthday, Rebecca! Sorry I missed it…

Thanks ladies for the birthday wishes💖👍🏼 I had a nice day, with chatting with youngest mid day, then going out for dinner and then video chatting with middle son at about 6 pm. Got bits and bobs from Athena and Eli but they both turn shy on video chat! I'm like its meeee!😂😁🙃. No cake or nothing. I had a chocolate protein bar. I thought I was going to have a chocolate cupcake with frosting, but husband stated that he had thrown them out on Tuesday! I had factored one in. That's how much I am aware of food on counters etc! I never noticed they were even gone. He said they had gotten a wee bit green.
Today I will cut up my leftover steak and put it in a protein tortilla for dinner. Maybe with a tomato or avocado. I have Applebee's Caesar salad to finish too. Maybe the tomato and avocado will go in there for lunch. I made husband eat all the croutons out of my half.😁

Kylia - hope the eye procedure goes well. I remember when your DH was walking backwards a lot and will start incorporating some of that again. Thanks for the reminder!
Kim - Kass sounds like a great addition to the family. Glad she and Nephew are able to help somewhat with your mom. Praying for your continued vision improvement.
Carla - your deck is just great, lovely flowers there.
Tracey - that wooden planter is unique and very nice. I sure miss driving a car with a stick shift. I agree with Lisa, your dinner out was a bargain.
Annie - I often use the "find similar" in MFP too as a time saver and use an estimate like you do. Some of the concoctions I come up with don't have a "similar", lol, so I use the recipe builder. The lentil - mushroom stew I make a lot is one of them and has plenty of ingredients I want to account for. I don't get upset if something might be over or under by 10% or 15% because I'm not focused on calories as much as getting enough protein and fiber. I read a while back that the information on the nutrition labels on food items we buy were often off by quite a bit.🙄 But, it's a guide. When I was in WW and counting every point, I was very anal and anxious about it.
Beth - you mentioned last week about how huge chicken breasts were so tough to cook on the grill. Can't recall if I already posted sorority chef Kevin using a "feathering" technique to tenderize these breasts, so I'll post it. The sandwich he made here looks great and he gives a good demo of the technique - I'm anxious to give it a try. I like his Pesto recipe too -

I am reading/listening (I am vision impaired) to a most interesting book. I am listening to "The Next Conversation: Argue Less Talk More." I was motivated to listen to it because I have a "friend" who makes cutting remarks and denies that she had any bad intentions if called on it. The techniques that he recommends for dealing with passive aggressive behavior I believe will be helpful in dealing with lots of scenarios. Some of my favorites - looking at the person quizzically and asking, "Would you please repeat that?" He says that people are reluctant to repeat hurtful things, that what they are looking for is a reaction. Another favorite, "How do you expect me to react to that?" I expect that phrase to be helpful with my husband who is on the autism spectrum and has very little self-reflection.
How do you keep up with who is going on with what?
I would love to respond directly on topic —- like I believe the peachy trim are beautiful on Margaret(?)'s home. Your bricks are almost the same color as mine. I am in the process of changing trim from teal to a Wedgewood blue. My windows and garage are almond which I think is boring.

Today will be:
B: coffee, prunes
L: protein shake, leftover Applebee's Caesar salad
D: 4 oz steak with some shrimp and tomato slices
Snack: my medicine ball tea, a protein bar
Its over 1,000 calories to appease the My fitness pal gods, plus I got 80+ grams of protein. Low on sugars, and will get 98 oz of water.

How do you keep up with who is going on with what?
😀 glypnirsgirl We all have our own ways of responding and replying to each other. Some of us (not me) are better than others. I read this thread at least once at day, always while eating my breakfast. I respond to things that catch my interest. I write a single post and bold the name of the person I am addressing. Sometimes I just address a topic that lots of people have talked about. It takes time to get the hang of it.

MFP Weekly Check-In for June 16, 2025
Debbie in Napa Valley CA - 152.2 Down .2 so pretty much stayed the same. And that was with no walking the wetlands or the dog. Adding AquaZumba in this coming week- added to two nights of regular zumba.
Rita in Roswell NM - For some reason, I seem to be retaining water. I think it has to do with being sick the last couple days. Went up 4.5 pounds in a week. My goal this week is to walk twice a day for 1.5 miles each time. Day 1 walk 1 done! Last week’s average steps: 3619, average active minutes: 27, active energy: 338. All these need to increase this coming week.
Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast - Average WT up a smidge to 132.1 from 132.0 Average steps up to 6585 from 6146. Ps@2s habit still solid. AF days nosedived down to 57% from last week's 100% .
Lanette in SW WA – Weight is back to top of desired range. (Skipping breakfast – actually just combining breakfast and lunch a few days a week for a 14-16 hour “fast” seems to be the key. It worked that way last year for me.) Average daily steps 8773 – down a little from last week but way over the 7000 minimum I set for myself. Still walking at sunrise most mornings for 15 minutes and walking 10-15 minutes after meals carrying weights 2 or 3 times a day after meals. Have cut back to carrying 5# weight maximum for now due to back issues.

I have drank, no I have drunk, weird, I have drunken, aaack......well anyways I TOOK IN 33 oz of water using my Fuji water container this morning. Its a pretty shape to me and the plastic bottle is sturdy. I like that, instead of a huge container that is heavier. I get my liquid in that way. I knew I needed to drink a lot of water today because I felt a little "protein laden" from steak yesterday. And today I shall be having it again....so there's THAT. Need to keep plumbing going!
onwards and upwards!
