I have been reading each day but not fully so I was way behind. Finally caught up this evening.
I was really hoping Rodger and I would do something, but I couldn’t get him to budge.
I think I just need to stop hoping, then I won’t be disappointed.I did a lot of scrapbooking this weekend. I am making an album of my ancestors. My maternal side really documented their lives on pictures, my paternal side hardly at all. I think it’s also how things were handed down, my mom was an only child and her parents were both the last of their siblings to pass. My Dad had six siblings, both of his parents had large families.
I wish we could upload videos on here, I would love to share my project, but it’s really hard to explain in photos. On PT - when I injured my hip I did PT for a fair amount of time. I did find that they would hold my leg to make sure I was using the correct muscles when doing the exercises. In the end I actually had an exercise therapist help me, she gave me exercises and had me start very slow, the PT was actually pushing me a little harder than I should have been pushed. I suffered with pain for over 3 years I still do the exercises I was taught by PT because they help keep me moving.
I’m glad it’s a short week, I’m very tired tonight.

I hope everyone is having a great night.
Allie, I may change Delia's name to Smilia. I love her smile; it puts one on my face. Delia is a beautiful girl and she has four teeth already. Delia's eyes are stunning. Take it easy, Allie.
Rebecca, you are doing great. The nausea the day after the shot will wear off in time. My co-worker said that it never did. You are right, the shots are not magical; you have to do the work too. You are doing a great job. You will hear negative opinions on the shots, but ignore them. You are fighting to get healthy and save your quality of life. To get motivated to exercise, I think about my MRI results, and now that exercise is good for my ischemic vessels, I am doing it. Afterward, I think that was fun. It took me all day to get going. The TV distracted me from starting, and then I decided to get going. I need to do it early. I need to walk Rose, too. She is getting chunky. She will be 10 in 10 days.
Lisa, Corey's Roma tomatoes are beautiful.
I discovered that the wasps are coming in through the window that DS broke in her anger. The tape that I put over the hole was torn open. So I looked up Ange's for a quote to fix the window, and it was $535.00.I killed an entire nest at the window. I saved the scrapbook of DS's baby years.
Barbara, sounds like you have a solid plan. I was tired from reading it all. It sounds like fun, too.
Hera, I think my hips are becoming arthritic too. I will continue my current workout. I will add swimming in September. My grandma used to have arthritis in her hands, so she did her granddaughter's hair to work her fingers. If I sit too long, it gets worse. Sometimes I use the Salonpas with lidocaine. Getting older is not for wimps. I will be 60 in October.
Neacie, keep it up. I had PT to get me going, and it did wonders for me. She worked with me in and out of water. Chair yoga is another way to go. I know you can do it. Welcome to the group!
Tina, when I drove to school, it took me 15-20 minutes when I lived at home in California. It took me 3 hours by bus. The RTD must have improved its bus routes since I lived there. Biking was the way for me to get around.
Kylia, you look amazing in your dress, and the shoes are beautiful.
Ginny, I am so sorry for your loss of Zombu. Now, Zombu is free from pain.
Flea, I am so glad you and DH got to get away and relax. Summer did go by like lightning.
Carol, your granddaughter must be a powerhouse to make varsity in her first year. Great Job!
Pip, Ethel has a personality, and she is independent.
Well, I'd better go to bed now. Take it easy, everyone, and good night.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

"PT shows you the exercises that you should be doing for whatever issue you're having, and how to do them properly."
M – I have a book called “Stretching” by Bob Anderson. It tells you how to do the exercise and what body part it works. Why wouldn’t that help?
It does help, but you can't see what you're doing, even if you have a mirror. Not entirely. When another person is standing there, they can see exactly what you are doing.
Also, physiotherapists are trained to know what you need to do to the body part in order to help it.
My husband ruptured his Achilles tendon at the beginning of the year. After the surgery he was prescribed physiotherapy. There are a number of exercises that work the Achilles tendon and surrounding area. Your book probably has some. But the physiotherapist assessed his legs and determined which exercise he needed to do at that point. A couple weeks later, there was another assessment and the exercises were adjusted. And so on through his healing progress.
If he had leapt in with just any exercises, he could have easily done more harm than good.

Just heard from John's elder daughter who lives in the southwest of France. There are fires all round her village, and the planes are out spraying overhead. The far end of the village has burnt, and some animals and an old lady have died. She has no water right now. Scary. Smoke terrible.
Of course, John is worried. Moving to France was a passion project for her and she intends to stay there for the rest of her life. She has bought extra property in the village for her car and her ex/best friend. We visited in October two years ago.
So, we are hoping for the best for her.
I had a shower and washed my hair at the same time this morning. Very rare. I usually separate the two operations. Must do it more often now I don't get the horrible tingling legs any more. That used to drive me bat crazy! I've never heard of anyone else who has this. It's like ants in your shins. I've had it after showering since I was 18, but it seems to have disappeared now.
I also wrote another tiny part of my book. Slowly inching my way into it.

What about fibre? More veggies! A bit more fruit.
And if I really want things to get moving, most nuts: almonds, cashews, walnuts. I don't need to eat many of them and … success!
Was pretty blue after yesterday’s DDS appointment. The good news is that bone under implants is fine. The bad news is that the cracked tooth may require a crown ($1900 total), there is another tooth with a suspected abscess under an old root canal, and he still wants to fill/crown another one we’ve been “watching” for more than a year. Requested an appointment with the Grants Pass endodontist. $455 for eval and 3 D X-rays. Treatment est fm $2300 to $2800. If they can fix ok, but if not will have them take it. It’s far enough back can live without it. Was hoping to have CareCredit paid off this year but with crown and unknown endodontist expense will be making payments at least til July 2026. Will ask DDS Monday if can put off til next year. This morning I felt a little more hopeful, grateful we have CareCredit, grateful I’m still moving around and not breathing dirt. Still a little hard to be grateful for the DDS tho’ ;{
Barbara — I feel your pain.
When I was 17, my dentist at the time filled all my molars with silver amalgam in an attempt to prevent cavities. I guess it was a thing back then. A very bad thing. That silver amalgam is extremely hard and does not move. But teeth move. That silver amalgam also contracts and expands with heat and cold. But teeth do not. So you can imagine what happens to teeth with silver amalgam in them.
Almost all my molars have broken or are set to break, riddled with cracks. I've had teeth pulled, numerous root canals, one patch job after another, etc. etc.
A month ago I broke another tooth with silver amalgam.
Today I finally visited the dentist. Today's appointment was $1133 to fix the broken tooth, and the one next to it which is set to shatter (big crack). The deposit on the two crowns came to $1842 for a grand total of $2975. I've got another $3758 to pay. 😖😖
But the appointment went well … I think that was the first time a dentist has ever hit and numbed the correct nerve on the first go! I was impressed! One shot and I was numb. It usually takes 4 to 5 shots before I'm numb enough for them to work on me. The freezing went in at about 3:30 pm. It's 9 pm and is almost gone.
I go back in 2 weeks for the crowns.
don't his jeans get stiff drying them on the line??
Debbie — I hang dry everything and my jeans don't get stiff drying them on the line. Nothing gets stiff drying on the line.
Towels do get a little scratchy, but they're extra absorbent, like Lisa says, and the roughness feels good on my persistently itchy skin.

Heather - Hope John's daughter and her home and belongings are all OK. Fire is one of the scarier things in this life. Glad to see you've begun writing again! As long as you are, you're where you feel most productive and happy. I'm the same, but my urge to write feels accomplished every time I write 800 words or so! 😅 Oh, I might gather them all up into a book at some point again. But I might not, and that's OK, too.
Rebecca - You can take this all with a grain of salt, you know, but I was thinking about you yesterday and realized that it's possible you're defining constipation in a pretty narrow window. I'll put this in a spoiler, as it gets a little stinky!
So… the medical definition of constipation is passing less than three stools IN A WEEK or having difficulty passing stools. When you think you're constipated if you don't go for a single day, or they are difficult to pass for one day, that's not necessarily constipation. You're putting an awful lot of stress on your mind, which doesn't help that situation at all. I know you already plan to talk about all this at your medical appointment.
Added to that, though, don't forget that you've dropped the actual volume of what you're eating tremendously, probably more than you realize, and you also may have moved away from eating a lot of food that had a tremendous amount of liquid in it. When you were eating your intermittent fasting schedule, you posted lots of photos of soups and broths of all kinds (I remember the pictures… 🥰). Plus the rest of the day you were drinking black coffee or liquids, I assume.
When you have no appetite, your body may also confuse the signals and tell you you're not thirsty! We tend to mix those signals up even when we're not restricting calories, and confuse hunger for thirst at the best of times. If you have no hunger, you may not have any thirst.
I've found that the very few days that I am beginning to have where I have less ability to pass things follow directly the days I've gotten less liquid in my system. Not easy to push liquids when you're feeling kinda ucky, but the more liquid of any kind you can get in, including watery veggies, like iceberg lettuce and cucumbers, or fruits like watermelon, the more you may find this problem "passes." Sorry, couldn't resist the pun!
For a couple of years after the surgery, when I could eat very little, the doc put me on a quarter dose of Miralax every day in my coffee. It pulls liquid into the intestines to do its work, which means that you stay thirsty (which helped) and things stay a lot more regular. Prunes are definitely the better way to go, but they made me gag. No laxatives should be taken for long periods of time without a doctor's supervision, definitely.
That went on for a while, sorry.
Mo - Sorry about the issues with the window, glad you found the problem, but $535 sounds expensive!
Barbara - thanks for the chicken breast recipe. Corey bought a BIG package of them, so I have more than a few chances to try them again… 😈🥰
Anyway - up early because I was dreaming that the airport van I was in had been hijacked by terrorists, but I was so tired from traveling that I was about to start snoozing anyway - so when Corey came in at 5:10 a.m. to get his clothes on for work, the bump of the dresser drawer opening made me think they were coming to the back of the van where I was and I woke up with a jolt.
And because I made a noise when I started awake, Egg realized I was awake, and started singing to me to get my lazy butt up out the bed, and bouncing up and down on the headboard. The joys of living with an animal that is as smart as a human toddler and believes, just like the toddler, that you should be playing with them at all times… 🥰
I can always take a nap later.
I did send an email message to my VA care team to get some testing done for both thyroid and iron - I think one of them is getting wonky, but didn't want to shove more iron in my system without getting them checked. It always futzes with my gut when I change doses on the iron supplements.
They already bumped my thyroid up in January, but it may still be getting worse. Hope not, but we'll see. It's possible either one of those could be part of the dizziness and vertigo, too. Corey insisted I add that to the email. He hates watching me stagger. I ain't fond of it either…
Anyway, I'll quit rattling.
Love y'all,

Barbara - I'd be glad to send you some of our "rain." It's been lightly showery from what I can determine - at least the deck is wet. Maybe 1/8" of rain in the rain gauge but it's supposed to keep up this morning. No gully washer but should settle the dust and for that I'm grateful. Hope you get some decent rain soon to replenish your water supply.
Lisa - crossing fingers your email to the VA prompts them to find a remedy for that vertigo. That was a mighty active dream. Terrorists and everything!
Has anyone made Hummus? I've tried in the past but it's been a flop, probably because I was using either a blender or my Nutribullet. I now have an actual food processor so will give that a whirl.

Lanette, we got a little rain last night here in the valley. I was so thankful. It must not have been much because I didn't hear it, but everything is wet.
I love the "dry season." I really do, but yesterday I told hubby that I was missing the rain and looking forward to its return.
Hubby job update: still working and applied for a new job working remote with travel to the Portland area. You can't see my face, but I am smirking and rolling my eyes. I don't know if he is going to be able to give it up, although, last night he said that he would still be working when we fall back but perhaps not when we spring forward. And he smiled! So maybe we are making progress.
I loved hearing the various retirement stories. Thank you for sharing!
Dexa scan this morning then the pup gets a bath.
Much love.

Rebecca I am trying to figure out what to do with my old plastic wear. Some I use for storage. I try as much as I can to only store in glass now and if I cook it is in good quality stainless steel or cast iron. Plastic is ubiquitous in our environment so I try to lower my exposure where I can so I would not use the black plastic containers you showed. I do understand what makes them tempting to use…convenience and easy storage. When I did microwave food I tried always tried to use a glass container and not plastic. I did throw out all my Teflon pans too! Either the Teflon flakes off or it gives off a gas at a high heat. DH loved to cook in them. I cannot go back all I can do is make better choices now. When I store food I use glass when I can. I save glass jars from the food I buy. I also use mason jars I already had for storage so I don't have to buy as many glass storage containers. They are pricier than plastic. We are all ingesting plastic through our air, water, food whether we want to or not. All we can do is lower our exposure where we can. There was a time when micro beads of plastic were in cosmetics until they found them in the ocean and were making animals sick. For this reason I also quit using anything that comes in plastic pods…dishwasher detergent and washing machine detergent.
Lanette In recent years I have shopped at Kohl's for clothes. Some of my clothes also came from specialty shops like Dress Barn (no longer in business)or a small boutique. I did buy some of my exercise clothes online. Kohl's is hit and miss. Because I know what colors I like and want my clothes to be as natural fabric as possible that eliminates most of what is out there and makes my shopping easier. I did have to order my nighties online because one thing I insist on is they be 100% cotton. It was easier to find that online.

I wanted to get in a bit of walking today, so I thought I would amble round the charity shops in Hove. John said he would come with me! I didn't find anything for me, but we bought a navy Ben Sherman shirt for John , and another John Lewis one in a blue and white lawn fabric, which will be perfect for our cruise. Very light. The BS one will go with his beige linen jacket for dinners as it has a tiny pattern in beige.
We enjoyed walking about together, and visited 8 shops in all. Then we went into Tesco to buy just the things they do well.
On the way to the bus, we passed a newly opened shop which had Arancini in the window. I have seen them on the TV many times, as they are the favourite food of the Sicilian detective, Inspector Montalbano. But I've never eaten one! So we bought two for tomorrow's lunch. She said, heat in the oven for 10 minutes.
Home. I was pretty knackered by the time I got in, but feeling better after a nap. We were out for nearly 2 hours. Walking slowly and stopping all the time is tiring!
John is very happy with his shirts and says he will winnow two old ones from the rack. Hooray!

Thanks Barbara! Just milking these last days of summer break for everything they've got!!!

do you use fabric softener? Maybe that would make a difference- I don't remember if they even had that way back when we hung the clothes on the line. That was close to 50 yrs ago.

I LOVE Sherpa. I have too many Sherpa blankets and jackets. I got my jackets at Walmart a couple years ago. Not as soft as they used to be but still super comfy and warm.

The VA got it together and got me in to the lab this morning to get my thyroid and iron tests done. Now we wait.
Back home, back to miserably hot and dry outside… Got a couple things for breakfast for dinner, neither is of a mind for toiling over a stove for long these days.
Later, my dears, I'm retiring to my recliner and either napping (again) or crocheting. Or both!
Love,

Well I think you are most definitely right.
Yesterday was chicken stock and a small sandwich. By evening the cramping and abdominal pain came back. I took two kaopectatate chews at 5 pm and at 7:30 pm thinking that it would calm my belly. No, it just made it worse because the medicine was made to calm the belly if you have over eaten, which I haven't. I was grasping at anything. I went to bed at 8 pm and moaned and cried until about 11 pm. Finally got some sleep but was up with cramping 3 times an hour at least.
My husband bought a herbal thing I can take daily that is supposed to soothe the digestive tract. I am nervous on what to even eat today. I guess the most bland things.

I have used the stitch witchery to put cotton fabric over the "tagless" tags when they start to get even a bit rough- Regular tags, even when flat drive me crazy.
The worst is the bras that they use that net type fabric on the seams of the cups. Wore one inside out because I couldn't stand the net touching me.2 -
ThIs is the fire that John's elder daughter is in the centre of. It is much more under control today, but she says the whole countryside is black. 55 square miles. Friends have lost their vineyards, which were the lifeblood of the village. She says the community rallied to support the firemen, bringing them food and drink, and even the 'frites' van turned up. The Prime Minister has arrived. She is feeling very despondent about the future of the area. We know it will recover eventually, but the beautiful green place she loved has gone, for now.
We had a delicious dinner with a couple of stray zucchini, onion, tomatoes, garlic, and some king prawns. Over my favourite pasta, wholegrain spelt spaghetti. It was so fresh!
V tired now. Will be having an early night.

Heather - hope John's daughter stays safe. So sad, such devastation. And to have built dreams of living in that area and now this. 😥
Debbie - what weight ankle weights are you using? I haven't put my 8# weighted vest on lately but want to get back to wearing it. Also, I wonder if Walmart will get in any Sherpa fleece 1/4 zip pullovers this fall. I didn't see any at the store on their website, but it might be early. The thing I like about Walmart is they take returns easily so if I get something home and it doesn't fit, easy to take back. No packing up and dropping it off and messing with return labels. They told me once that since I pay with credit card, I don't even need a receipt. They can look it up.
Margaret - I still have a few pairs of dressier pants I purchased at Dress Barn ages ago. Again, 14W was very comfortable for me. Another good clothing store no longer around. 😥
Rain is done, it's kind of misty now. 1/4".

No.
I do use vinegar in the fabric softener cup.
Also clothes here take a long time to dry on the line because it tends to be damp. Maybe that makes a difference.

Smilia and sMiles – wonder what their sibling will be called?
Was drizzling this morning but stopped so I took Ganon for a walk
Went to the sleep doc earlier today. This is one of those “everything looks good, keep it up” visits – mainly so that Medicare will continue to pay. On the way back stopped at the Salvation Army. Yes, I got some exercise DVD’s (I need more like I need a hole in the head – but I can’t help myself) and another jigsaw puzzle
Margaret – I threw out all the Teflon at home and at the condo, too. I don’t like when it flakes. Not to mention that it starts to look “dirty”
Re: dinners. So I’ve tried the M,W, F for Jess and Tu Thur Sat.for me. The problem is that J & C like to eat late, C works late and I’m sure they like to cook together. We need to eat earlier. Not sure what to do, have separate meals? On the days I cook, I try to assemble their dinners and they can microwave it when they’re ready. But the MWF? I don’t think I should have to cook 7 (or 6) days/week. Maybe I cook during the week and J&C on the weekends?? We’ll have to figure it out. That might work especially when Jess starts work. Even if her hours are 7-3, I'm sure she'll be tired when she gets home. I'm trying to stay out of the kitchen as much as possible and plan to eat dinner.
I would like to take Ganon for a walk after dinner, hope it isn’t too dark. If we do go, it’ll have to be the short one.

Well the herbal peppermint tablets have settled my digestive tract so I can at least sleep. I had slept in to about 10 am, then took an hr nap this afternoon. I have zero energy and my abdomen is sore. Never had dealt with any GI issues before, except my gallbladder hellish couple of months. I am awful with pain.
At 5 pm, I settled on some white rice with turkey gravy on top. I had a very small portion. Half of my microwavable rice container. Now just relaxing to George Winston on Pandora. Tomorrow is shopping and my next dose of zepbound. Not looking forward to this rollercoaster ride I have put myself on, but will persevere.
