Public Transit - here in the city of Edmonton they have made almost all routes inaccessible to those that need them. Like Tina, they have made long walks to the stops, many steps to the trains, and long times between busses meaning you either end up being very early or very late for anything. I did travel using the bus for work for 8 years then the office moved and it would have taken me over 2 hours each way to get to work. I bought a car. I sold that car and bussed again for about a year, until one day because of bus delays I was 2.5 hours late for work. I bought a car again and haven’t been without one since, although technically I could walk to work here if I absolutely had to. I don’t because I hate being sweaty when I get to work and I’m the winter the sidewalks are too treacherous in the mornings.
Ozempic - Rodger has been on it for about 3 months now and he just had an appointment to see how it is affecting his A1C. It has dropped one point. That’s the only reason he’s taking it he had already lost 6” on his waist, not sure of pounds as he never told me. He is also on Jardiance because the metformin wasn’t helping him.I noticed this last week his appetite has really changed but he hasn’t had an ill effects at all, thankfully.
Heather - I hope the fire is contained soon. Sorry about the devastation, it sure can change an area fast.
Margaret - it’s amazing how hard it is to get away from everything set out to harm us these days.
Debbie - my mother hung clothes on the line and used fabric softener, but there was nothing that could make me actually like my jeans for the first few minutes of putting them on. I think she got a dryer for the first time after I moved out.
Michele - maybe you need to worry about you and Vince and let Jess worry about her and Colby. It’s causing you a lot more worry and stress than need be, especially if you aren’t able to accommodate their needs.
Long day today.

but they were on sale when I got them. They are not the most comfortable- needed to wear different socks- the no show little ones don't work for me under them.
I wore them again tonight. I will keep wearing them, maybe I will get used to them. I forget I have them on when I am concentrating on class.2 -
Hi Ladies,
I am trying to catch up. As I am reading, I have one question, maybe more.
Michelle, Gannon, is your grandson correct? I am picturing you walking around with your 3-year-old grandson. Today it occurred to me that Gannon may be someone's pet?
Pip, I am getting ready to do bills. Can you leave the link where I can make my donation to MS? I am so proud of how well you are doing with your miles. It shows that age doesn't slow you down. When I was in my 20s, walking in the mall, I wondered how the senior citizen was walking circles around me. Now, the younger nurses are impressed by how fast I walk.
Lisa, your medical team needs to help you with the Vertigo.
Rebecca, throughout my entire weight loss journey, and before I had to battle constipation. I drink lots of tea and water. Then I talk to the doctors, and I am on Pepcid, Prevacid, and a bowel regimen. Every 2-3 days, I take Milk of Magnesia if I don't go on my own. I also take Miralax, which works great now, so I don't need as much Milk of Magnesia. I am also taking Senekot and a Symbiotic-Seed. When I was younger, I wouldn't go for weeks. ( I had issues of not wanting people to know that I go poo.) I got sick because I didn't go when I visited my grandma. Granny had to give me a Soap Suds Enema. She called my dad, and they both yelled at me. So my doctors keep up with my labs to make sure my electrolytes don't get out of whack. Try Miralax and MOM if the Miralax doesn't work. Keep hydrated.
Tracey, it is good to hear from you again. I wish that I could get some scrapbooking done. I just saved the DS book from the spray I was using to kill the wasp in Julia's old room. I did get to work out this week. I genuinely think I have problems with ADHD. So my time management at home and sometimes at work leaves little to be desired.
Well, good night everyone. Sorry for the TMI stuff.
XO,

Rebecca: Everybody’s system reacts differently to medication. Hope you are over the worst.
Our outing on Tuesday was so good I love visiting these events with my daughter and granddaughter, as they are both into art, and the discussions are interesting as we all have different tastes.
Yesterday, we did our weekly grocery shopping, and I rested up after my busy day on Tuesday.🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

Re: dinners. So I’ve tried the M,W, F for Jess and Tu Thur Sat.for me. The problem is that J & C like to eat late, C works late and I’m sure they like to cook together. We need to eat earlier. Not sure what to do, have separate meals? On the days I cook, I try to assemble their dinners and they can microwave it when they’re ready. But the MWF? I don’t think I should have to cook 7 (or 6) days/week. Maybe I cook during the week and J&C on the weekends?? We’ll have to figure it out. That might work especially when Jess starts work. Even if her hours are 7-3, I'm sure she'll be tired when she gets home. I'm trying to stay out of the kitchen as much as possible and plan to eat dinner.
@exermom … Michele … you said that there's a wet bar in the basement with a small fridge, microwave and sink.
- They can fix their own meals in their own mini-kitchen in the basement.
- You can talk to them.
Rebecca — sounds like gas to me but I don't know.
Things known to cause gas and bloating (to name a few):
- Zepbound
- Protein drinks
- Fatty & processed meat
- Anything carbonated
If it is bothering you, see a doctor.
Full day of meetings, meetings, and more meetings today.

This is where my stepdaughter lives. In the middle of all this. She is OK, but it is not over yet. 30 houses gone in her little village. One person dead, and many animals. For the future, who knows. The main source of money for the village is agriculture, especially the vineyards. All gone.
Her sister visited twice or more times a year, her mother also. Her ex husband was planning to move there. We visited nearly two years ago. How much the government will help the farmers etc is unsure.
Elise said it is like the Apocalypse. The End of the World.
So sorry for her and the community.

Heather - I looked at your link before, and now this, it's genuinely just awful. I can understand why you've both been worried about your stepdaughter. I'd be beside myself, too. We get no hint of this in the middle of the U.S. Any kind of news from France just doesn't get here at all. Thank you for letting us know.
Rebecca darlin' - Your body is trying to tell you that you are starving to death, so it will tell you that you're in pain, that you need to be still, because you're in a famine. It doesn't think, it just reacts. The more you move, the more those gas pains, etc., will go away. I also hear in your words that you're wondering if you can keep doing this, and maybe at least part of the answer is to ask your doctor if there is another option besides Zepbound. Tricare also has Wegovy in its formulary (list of allowable prescriptions) and it might work better for you and your body. I know you are stronger than you think - you raised three boys and got your husband through a liver transplant! Finding the same strength for ourselves isn't as easy as for others, though. But if this one isn't right, maybe there's one that is. They weren't available 20 years ago, or I would have probably tried them instead of the permanence of a gastric bypass. What you're going through is what we called "buyer's remorse," as in when you've committed to something and you aren't sure it was the right decision. Once I'd had bariatric surgery, I had no further choices, and that might have been easier than making the decision every single week to take that shot.
Up early this morning… should be having a visitor this morning, the woman I used to work with at Girl Scouts, and my eyes sprang wide open at 4 a.m. trying to figure out what needed to be cleaned up before I'd be OK with having someone in my house. Plus she's a hugger, too, so I'll need to wear a bra. I know that's weird, but I don't care.
That plus physical therapy this afternoon, plus I need to get some writing done, and yeah, a busy day (in my terms anyway) ahead of me. Haven't had anyone besides us in my house for so long!
Anyway… time to get a few things off my busy little brain.
Later, my dears.
Love,
Lisa in AR10 -
Good morning ladies!
And just like that the weatherman has changed his mind about 96F here on Monday. Updated forecast on Wunderground is now 83F. A relief. Still 91 on Sunday, (MSN Sunday temps 86F) but after Monday, cooler and cloudy in the morning. Vastly reduces the chances of wildfire in my area. Heather's stepdaughter's experience and the local news still warning of fire danger even after the rain has me on high alert.
Rebecca - I thought Lisa had a good suggestion - perhaps there's another medication that would be easier to tolerate.
When I was a teenager, I took weight loss medication prescribed by my doctor. Amphetamines. Little blue pills. He handed them out to me and my chubby girlfriends like candy and yes, we lost weight. 😯 A different doctor gave me a little booklet with a list of foods with carb values and told me to keep them at 50. This was in the mid 1960's. Amazing the advantages of low-carb were recognized way back in the 1960's.
Lisa - enjoy your rare house-guest. I'm sure you two will have a lot to catch up on.
Debbie - those weights do look comfortable and I agree, it takes some planning to keep them from rubbing. I run into the same thing with my 5# ankle weights in the SWSY program. If I don't have them situated just right, that Velcro rubs my skin.
Sue in WA - I just saw there were funnel clouds in your area yesterday. Evidently no damage. Hope you got needed rain.

😀 I picked enough tomatoes yesterday to have some in my lunch and give a snack size baggie of them to my dog walking friend. So far, all the ripe tomatoes are at the bottom of the plant close to the stem so there is a lot of bending and stretching involved in finding and picking them.
😀 I cleared off one more bookshelf which resulted in my having books to add to the charity shop contribution and books to mail to others through Paperback Swap so yesterday was errand day—-charity shop, post office, and library. Annie loves errand day because she gets a small treat each time I get out of the car and each time I get back in.
😀 Other items that went to the charity shop in addition to the books were a heating pad (Jake bought it and used it once and I've never used it, so I figured I could do without it and if I ever needed one, I could buy one or borrow one from a friend) and some green drinking glasses that I bought in 1968 in Okinawa because they were pretty and were made from recycled Coke bottles. I never drink out them but felt sentimental about them because I'd had them so long.
😥 Heather, your step daughter's situation sounds so scary. Sending best wishes to all of you.
😀 Michele, you are such a caring person, wanting everything to be perfect for Vince, Jess, and Colby, that you've neglected yourself. They are all adults with financial resources and skills. You don't have to be their caregiver/short order cook.
😀 I enjoyed hanging laundry on the line during the one short time in my life when it was an option. Now I'm grateful for my large capacity dryer and use it twice a week.
😀 I would be taking my shower now, but Annie is asleep on my feet and I don't want to disturb her.

Oh my, Heather, I'm so sorry. That looks like the fires they fought in Cali in January. Scary. Glad your stepdaughter is safe. But no, it's never really over. Prayers for everyone and the safety of the firefighters.

Heather … thinking of your step-daughter and her community … devastating.
Rebecca … gas pains are miserable… sorry you're having to deal with them.
Carol … the mattress still seems "saggy" to us, but we're sleeping on it without discomfort … so we'll give it a little more time before calling the manufacturer.
Barbara … arghh! Dental expenses! I have a chipped tooth that I know will need repair. My appointment is in another week and I'm dreading the whole process.
Yesterday while I was mowing the weeds in the lawn, the lawn tractor broke down. One wheel was going one way and the other was going another way. Fortunately, my husband was able to get the tractor back into the garage and diagnose the problem. Parts are ordered and on their way. The tractor is old and we're just trying to get as much as we can out of it before buying a new one.
Today we're dealing with the dealership where we bought our new truck. There are errors on the financial paperwork, which we only discovered when looking for an unrelated proof of purchase for the Ziebart. Sigh. It's not a lot of money, but it's not peanuts either and we need to find an equitable solution.

Rebecca Ginger is another herb that helps settle the stomach. Fresh ginger can be grated and then seeped for five minutes. Drain add some mint (your peppermint would work) if you have it and a bit of honey or real maple syrup to make a soothing drink. Fresh ginger can be found in most grocery stores in the produce section. I would stay away from any foods that have artificial ingredients until what is going on is figured out. So sorry for you suffering! Stevia even though it is a natural sweetener can also cause GI issues. I don't use it just because I can't stand the aftertaste.
I agree with the others here that your body is trying to guide you in what will work for you. Figuring out a diet that works to keeps you healthy with minimal effects is a process. I agree with others that your are strong and you will find what works!
You have made great progress so far! Proud of you!

I am still learning and willing to change as needed.
I learned even what is a healthy diet by most standards can have issues. I am starting to see improvements with being more mindful of oxalate values in different foods. The one side effect I noticed as I have lowered oxalate foods is I am craving foods high in calcium. It makes sense because calcium binds with excess oxalate. I am also making sure stay hydrated to flush out my kidneys.
Improved less bruising in my hands. Before change in diet I was getting what seemed a fresh bruise a day in my hands, less leg cramping at night. Less trips to bathroom in middle of night. Better sleep.

Is there a way to segregate your kitchen a bit from foods that are theirs and food that is yours? Personally if they like to eat later then let them have free range of the kitchen later. You don't need to be cooking more volume of food for their dinners. Maybe every once in awhile if its like a roast and you would automatically habe leftovers. Store them and then they can reheat. But in reality you are not their chef, nor have to cook for them nightly. Just my opinion now.💖😁

Oh wowsa, you have had a time.😥💖. My dear husband bought a bunch of stuff for upset stomachs, but all were in regards to overeating indulgence etc, which wasn't my case. So once I had that awful night of moaning and crying until my abdomen settled down, (and probably when those meds got out of my body), I used a product that is herbal that has peppermint in it that is supposed to soothe the digestive tract. It actually did settle my abdomen down, so I am relieved! Its something I can take nightly.👍🏼

You are so right! I kind of was in panic mode, "this is my life now"?? Once I dealt with detoxing my body from the stuff I was taking to make my stomach feel better, then I got my footing.
I am taking this nightly to just help soothe my digestive tract a bit. It should stop any constipation from even starting. Plus my digestive tract will have a nice peppermint wash nightly.😁🙃
Today I woke up to wanting a fried egg and sausage patty! Ate all the sausage and most of the egg.
Going shopping with husband!💖 Will eat small bites of things periodically thru the day.👍🏼

I had typed a long post responding to what many have mentioned but realize that most of the advice given was spot on so I really don't have anything more to add! I am really proud of our group of ladies and all they are doing to improve their life, health, and well-being!

Rebecca - I'm really proud of you for continuing on that path, my dear. Not easy when it's not pleasant, I know.
As for me, oh my stars and whiskers, I have become SUCH an introvert… my old friend L had to cancel, and I was so relieved! We'll hook back up next week and find a good day and time.
Got one piece finished, and want to get another going. Need to think about something other than yesterday's lab tests. The results won't be available until tonight, and I probably won't see them until tomorrow.
We've decided to go ahead and let the grass, etc., go dry. It's just genuinely not worth the waste of water. I've still got a few more gallons in my rain barrel, and they'll go to my flowers. I will keep watering Corey's garden through these dry weeks, though.
Oh! I almost forgot - I added in the picture of Corey's raised garden at left, and to the right of his garden is my fig tree. I think it's funny that we like claim these things.
But anyway, this is SIX YEARS since we planted it, it dies back every winter, but this year, we're finally getting figs from it, and even beating the birds to some of them! The picture is the latest bunch we got yesterday and the day before in a freezer bag. I'm just freezing them, now that we've eaten so many warm and fresh from the tree. I haven't had a fresh fig, seriously, since I was a child. Love 'em!
Last but not least, I was able to get a new Sam's Club membership for a year for $25, after being without one for a year. They've got a sale on memberships going on at the moment. Didn't need the Sam's Plus membership, seldom shipped anything, so this is perfect. There are a few things we really prefer from there, so we'll go this weekend and see what they've still got.
Have to leave at 1 for PT, but I've got a very tidy house already, so I can either write or crochet for a couple hours! 😈 Breaks my heart.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa8 -
Hidee ho,
Still not up to snuff..so might call the clinic..
7 -
Heather -so sorry to hear of the fires near your DIL. Lisa is correct, we don't get updates on things like that in other countries-or at least not many updates.
Rebecca - hope you get your digestive system on track. I hope some of the side effects aren't permanent. Will you have to keep taking the medicine to maintain weight loss?
Allie - glad you are calling the clinic.
Made some progress on unpacking. Needless to say, I brought more than I need. I have a few nicer blouses I am keeping in a box to see if I do wear them. Lucy has adjusted well.I purchased a soft of stairs for her to use to get up on my bed and she had mastered it. I served her a bit of wet cat food to try to get joint meds down her. See looked around like she did when Zombu was stalking her food.
Off to clear out another box before going to what is referred to as "Happy Hour" here. It's at 3 in the afternoon for one hour (they begin serving dinner at 4:30).
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Oh my goodness, Ginny. Where you have moved sounds wonderful! I hope you enjoy it.
Rebecca — thinking about you. I take my heavy medicine for three weeks and then have to take a week off for my body to recover. (This is the standard of care, it's not just me.) It's not the same drug nor for the same thing, but I hear you, sister. I am due to start a new three week regimen tomorrow morning, and I always dread it the night before.
Can you perhaps talk to them about lowering the dose? Didn't they recently increase it? I asked for that about a year ago, and went from three pills a day to two a day. (Some people take only one a day). Doing that helped to ease some of the fatigue I was having at the end of the three week active cycle.
Hang in there Michelle. I know you want to be a good host and always worry about people, but I agree with everyone else that you just need to let this go. You and Vince eat what and when you need to, and the two of them will figure it out. They've been feeding themselves for years, so they won't starve.
4 week check up with oncology this afternoon. I'm hoping my kidney numbers are better. They've not been great over the last two months. So I've been focusing on hydrating and am avoiding red meats, with chicken just once in a while. I have drastically increased my veggie and fruit intake, probably too drastic, because I have been super gassy. But it's all good. Nothing horrible. Just a little embarrassing.
Back to work on Monday. Then classes start at the end of the month.
Take care everyone.

Mo, wasn’t it you reading The Frozen River a couple of weeks back? I’m reading it now, and I’m really enjoying it. Totally worth the months on the Libby hold list.
Beth, I’m glad you got a resolution you’re happy with from the dealership.5 -
No work so went to the Y and did HIIT. Then took Ganon for a walkaround the block. Ceramics tonight so maybe when we get home I’ll take him for another (shorter) walk. At least I’m getting my steps in!!!!
Update: I put my cat welcome sign in to be fired.
Mo – yes, Ganon is Jess’ dog. My grandson (PJ) who lives in DE is 6 years old. Denise is again giving us a hard time about coming up to see him for one day this year. My other grandson will be 2 in Sept. I’ve never seen him and probably never will.
Heather – my heart breaks for your stepdaughter
It’s funny. I still have to think about the fact that the day after I have off from work is the soup kitchen.
Barbie – you talking about tomatoes, I can’t wait until Jess’ tomatoes come in. How thoughtful you are not taking your shower because you’d disturb Annie!
Margaret – I was just about to recommend ginger to Rebecca but you beat me to it!
Cooking: we’re getting this worked out. Right now I’m doing T,Th, Sat and Jess is doing M W and F. I try as much as possible togive her free range of the kitchen but be close by if she has a question like “where is……..” or “do you have……” Things might very well change once she starts work. There really isn’t that much downstairs for her to cook a full meal, there isn’t a stove. Microwave meals, while convenient occasionally aren’t good for a constant diet. Too high in sodium and fat for the most part.
Just found out that the ceramics place in DE that we went to closed. Now don’t ask me to explain this but evidently they were supposed to install a handicapped accessible bathroom (makes sense) but the landlord wouldn’t let them because of the well (huh?). Whatever…..the only thing we can surmise is that perhaps there’s a problem with the well and he’s afraid that if the city came to inspect the bathroom they’d require him to fix the well, IF that’s the reason.
Lisa – glad you’re getting figs. Reminded me of a gal I used to play mahjongg with who had a fig tree in her backyard and would bring figs for us all. Right off the tree is the best
Allie – I hate to read that you are under the weather. Please take care of yourself
Ginny – LOL happy hour at 3! Tell us what all they do.
Yea me! Jess said that she wanted to make stuffed shells for tomorrow. I looked online for a recipe but then thought “no, I shouldn’t have to do this” so I said to Jess “well, you find a recipe and just let me know so that I know what ingredients to get”. Hey, I’m getting there making her more and more responsible for dinner.
Has anyone ever had a Hammi Gold cantaloupe? They are GOOOOODDDD. Grown by a company, Kandy something, and they are so very sweet. Athenia’s can be bland, but these are so sweet.
Now I’m glad that I downloaded a recipe. Jess “hasn’t gotten to it”. At least I have an idea of things I’ll need to buy. But I am not going to show her the recipe I downloaded.
