Total = 137.51km / 85.45 miles (Goal - 161Km / 100 miles)A partly cloudy, cool'ish run today (around 19⁰ C)- I was originally planning a longer route but my legs were feeling a bit like lead so I decided to shortened it up to 8K.
Later this afternoon I had to do a couple of errands & decided to walk home.
Got caught in two different torrential downpours; at the start & at the finish of the walk! At least I got to dry off temporarily while still walking in-between…..
Rain was coming down so hard as I got closer to home that I ended up deciding to take the subway. Downpour when I got on, roads not even wet when I got off, 1 station later.
Sitting in my kitchen now looking up recipes for dinner and listening to thunder in the distance.4 -
Reminded on Sunday morning that I had agreed to do some work around the house during the bank holiday. I spent much of Sunday/Monday climbing up and down ladders, so no weekend run for me.
Easy 5km today, it was pretty warm/muggy & not upping the speed to get it over with was a challenge.
Progress/ Goals August.

Afternoon all. 8km for me today at 6 mins per k. Headwind for the first half. Lovely tailwind home.

This morning I ran at a local elementary school track. Nothing too structured. I sprinted down the straight part and walked around the turns. Wish I could share some of these lovely temperatures with my Texan friends. This morning it was 48F (8.9C I think). Ended up with a little over 4 miles. Wore my new Nikes. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give them a 6.

Thanks @John772016 . Bush hogging - walking behind and wrestling with my DR Field and Brush mower while it cuts the little saplings and tall weeds in areas I only mow once or twice a year. Nice runs and walks yesterday, even if you did get caught in a downpour. I know that rain has to stop somewhere, but it always amazes me when it is between my house and mom's (0.25 miles away).
Great leg work over the weekend @username301 and running yesterday.
Great running @ContraryMaryMary .
It was almost chilly this morning @Teresa502 ! Great track workout. Love the look of the shoe. Sorry they aren't higher on your love it or not scale.

My phone came up this morning and told me it noticed a trend in my walking/running distance. A downward trend. 😔
I put a notice on my outlook calendar at work saying "Stop being lazy and RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!" for my lunch break.

Happy running everyone!
Monday was a recovery day so I went for a walk.
Yesterday was VO2Max day. Ugh, 2 minute intervals at max HR zone5/6 is not easy. It was also hot and breezeless so I managed to find some shaded streets to do this. Resident's must wondering who is this idiot sprinting up and down their street. Need more time on this anyways, need to get faster. Slower than a Galapagos tortoise at the moment. Won the DFL award at the last race.
We have a heat warning here till to the middle of next week. I think I'm somewhat acclimatized 😄@tarun_yadavA yummmmm ice cream…I want a chunky monkey now
@Teresa502 love the shoes!
@John772016 I'm wishing we had rain here now
@angf0679 run baby run!
@username301 ladder work is not easy, but kinda fun. good runs!
@quilteryoyo bush hog, learnt something new
@ContraryMaryMary Canada is waiting!

Looks like I will bust all goals this month! Boo. But @quilteryoyo I don't regret taking a knee when I am that tired. I have been trying to log foods again to see if there is a correllation with how much sugar I eat in the morning.
Oura ring is still fun. IDK how my DH gets 13-15K steps a day! I struggle to get 10K on exercise days… My heart "age" is still .5 years older than actual age.
I think I settled on my next WOG goal of increasing time but doing 2 sets of 3 min rest 3 min and 3 min WOG. I am also going to stretch more, I noticed when put on my socks that I can barely rotate my hip to put my foot on my knee. My left side is loosy goosey. Wonder if that is tied to my calf burning when I jog.
Hope everyones weather is cooling off!

I didn't go at lunch (and I won't have time tonight as I have church). I let myself talk myself out of it yet again.
I did though just go out for a coffee and the smell of smoke is stronger today from the wildfire that is about 2 hours from me. It's burning out of control with no sign that can get it under control. The last update was that it was 8,026 hectares.

LOL, triple fail. I've trained for 11 weeks to run a 5k at 7:30/km. Obviously I was too nervous again and it didn't work at all. Obviously I forgot to start the race on my watch (races are started differently than normal running programme runs even if it's just a virtual thing). And when I was done and walked home I ended up in a massive thunderstorm with horizontal rain and the charging port of my phone got soaked. And now I won't be able to charge my phone until the port is dry again 😁😂6 -

Nice runs @username301, @ContraryMaryMary, @Teresa502, @WarmJellyfish, @CMorning99, & @Mari33a!
Thanks for the bush hog explanation @quilteryoyo, I was guessing it may be something like that, I've just never heard the term before.
Still nice shoe porn @Teresa502, sorry they weren't scoring a bit higher for you!
Hope the wildfires keep their distance from you @angf0679!

Total = 146.40km / 90.97 miles (Goal - 161Km / 100 miles)Had originally planned a rest day but since we're supposed to get thunderstorms Thursday into Friday morning I figured resting during a thunderstorm tomorrow would likely be a better choice.
After I got back from my physio around noon today, the temps were pretty comfy (21⁰ C / 70⁰ F), with no humidity, so I threw on a T & shorts & headed out.
Did some run/walk intervals for the first 6kms then finished with a bit more speed for the rest once my legs were loosened up & my heart was totally confused.5 -
Sounds like you got it done @WarmJellyfish . I can imagine what your neighbor's were thinking. 🤣
Our goals are just arbitrary numbers to give us something to shoot for @CMorning99 . No shame in not making them as long as we keep trying. Taking the knee is the prudent thing sometimes.
@angf0679 That wildfire sounds horrible. I hope they figure out how to get a handle on it. NOW, get out there and run tomorrow!
You weren't that far from your goal @yirara . I think you did great. I hope your phone dries out soon and is okay.
You're doing great @Mari33a .
@John772016 Good idea to change rest days when thunderstorms are forecast. You are doing great.

Mom had an appointment this morning and then we had Bible Study at noon. I did a driveway workout after I got home.
I didn't sleep the best, second day in a row my score was in the 40's, so planned to just do a short run/walk. But, it was only 72F (22C) and didn't feel too bad once I started, so kept going. The run was at an avg pace of 13:23 min/mile. Avg HR was 138 with a max of 162 bpm.

Yay for new shoes @Teresa502, but doesn't sound like you are giving them a ringing endorsement 😉. Never have been a fan of Nike.
Haha @John772016 confusing your heart ❤️It was actually tolerable this morning. Dropped 10F (71F) compared to Monday morning, so I did 7 miles and wasn't a dripping pile of you know what.

I ran 6.25 again today. I did it as a tempo run. I felt pretty good about it. It was 79°F and actually felt pretty pleasant.
5 -
I just noticed a typo in my post from last night. It was 70°F yesterday morning and pretty pleasant. I am fixing ro go do an interval run now and it is 78°F. I'm afraid it isn't going to be as pleasant, but we'll see how it goes.
5 -
Another cool morning run. Garmin told me to make it a slow (for me) recovery run but when running with a friend whose pace is faster than you, it’s hard to intentionally hold it back. Anyway, I got 5 miles done.
@WarmJellyfish – DFL beats DNF every…single…time!
I too need more stretch time in my life @CMorning99 . I’ve done better this week but need to consistently keep at it.
@kgirlhart – I wondered how running in 79F could be pleasant!
I read an article last night in Outside magazine about “super shoes” and how testing has shown that wearing them helps reduce muscle elasticity (a gauge for muscle damage) for marathon runners improving their times and making recovery time shorter. In case you haven’t heard of them, super shoes are carbon-plated shoes with a lot of springy foam. Most of them are pretty expensive. Here's a review of some of them.
Does anyone wear them?
5 -
Glad your temps were a bit cooler for your run @Scott6255 . Way to take advantage of the better weather.
Nice @kgirlhart . I hope you had a good run today.
I've never hear of those shoes @Teresa502 . They sound interesting. Maybe a new "rocket" shoe for you @SummerSkier ? I wonder how they would do for someone who overpronates?
3 -
Nice running everyone.
Yesterday was a recovery base run and ooooh were the legs shagged from the day before. It was also a bit warm at 29c. Had to shorten the run as I wasn't getting loosened up and was beginning to run punch drunk 😐️
@yirara a 5k is a 5k is a 5k, still got it done. Only means you have new opportunities to break the time!
@Teresa502 I soooooo nearly DNF'd after my tumble and wrenched the shoulder. That was hurting like a MF, couldn't lift it, and I was like 500m from an aid station and still had half the race to do. Could mainly only use one arm for the poles for the climbs but I thought, oh heck I literally had almost all night to finish it, so why not. I don't need a shoulder for running 😁🤣 I wanted that medal bad 😁
Too expensive those shoes. Thought reducing muscle elasticity makes it worse?
Finisher medal

78°F is definitely not as pleasant as 70°F. But I did my interval run and got 6.5 miles in. It was a good run even if it was warm. I hit my goal for August.
@Teresa502 I haven't heard of those shoes. They sound interesting.

Hahahahahah

Very funny @chris_in_cal 🤣😂
@Teresa502 I have been wearing Saucony Endophin Speed (2,3,5) shoes for years. They are a step down from carbon plated shoes (they have a nylon plate). I'm not sure if they reduce my muscle fatigue, but they do seem to allow me to run a little faster with the same effort as my previous shoes (mainly Brooks Ghost). I tried a carbon plated shoe before I got the Endorphin Speeds, but they were very stiff and uncomfortable.4 -

Total Bike 208.51 / 200 milesHad 2 good runs today and my VO2 Max went up one point to 47 so I’m very pleased about this. I expect it will drop again once the winter arrives & I’m running less but I’ll enjoy it for now. Back in January 2023 it was 36

Pilates and a 3 km run for me today, but I forgot my watch so does it count?
I was reading about those carbon plated shoes and yes, they do make you go faster however, if you only run in carbon plated shoes, they are doing a lot of work for you (by holding your foot in place) and you run the risk of different injuries instead. I believe the science says mix them in to your shoe rotation, ideally saving them for race day. You certainly shouldn’t be training in them every day.
A study has shown runners who use more than one pair of shoes have a 39% lower risk of injury. This is your invitation to go buy another pair of running shoes!

Thanks for all the discussion on the super shoes. I seem to recall when they first came out a few years back and was used in a professional race, there was a lot of disputes around whether or not they should be allowed.
@WarmJellyfish - I probably did a poor job describing the information in the article by Alex Hutchinson. It is the elastic modulus that gauges muscle damage that you want to be low. The study (by Nike) found that faster and more experienced marathon runners tended to start with a lower elastic modulus, corresponding to springier muscles. Running a marathon made the muscles stiffer and harder to stretch, increasing elastic modulus by 23% from start to finish - a red flag indicating muscle damage. You want to improve elasticity and therefore harden your legs against muscle damage. Ways to improve include high-mileage long marathon-pace runs of up to 20 miles when training for a marathon, downhill running and lifting heavy weights. Simply stretching muscles seemed to produce mixed results - repeatedly pulling on an elastic band doesn't make it springier.
