Good Day, Friends! Have a great, productive one!
@dawnbgethealthy , safe travels!
@age_is_just_a_number , what a great view! Hope you can launch that canoe soon! And yes....its the nuts that won't loosen for me. I changed out the seat on my old bike myself but THIS one is not doable for me.
@tinathescreamer , welcome and kudos on the loss! And 9 pounds is certainly doable in 80 days. Continued success!
@Takarameri , I have been where you are...too often. But it passes and we move forward!
Day 15—09/06— 162.2 - Started today with a granola bar. Have to hit the grocery store later...no milk and need salad fixings. I was just getting used to the cooler weather. I need fall now. Goal is the same....maybe THIS week will be the charm.
Day 16—09/07— 162.2 - Started the day with blueberry yogurt and a roll. I could have skipped the roll, but it's ok. Not sure what the rest of the day holds. Yesterday my daughter was at my ex's and they fired up the grill so I was invited to lunch. Had a hot dog and tomato slices. And I was satisfied even though they had cheeseburgers too. So I was a good girl... lol!
Day 17—09/08— 162.2- I finished up the English muffins I had in my fridge. Dinner will be a cheesesteak at the ballpark...I have not had a cheesesteak since my mother used to make them...who totally turned me off them. Going to try a good one. I always take water with me, but I may get a diet soda while I am there.
Day 18—09/09— 161.6 - Wow...Although I only ate half the cheesesteak (which was delicious, btw), I thought my weight would be up and I was prepared. The body can be tricky sometimes. Today I had an Atkins shake for breakfast....they are a good low carb start to the day. Will probably have a salad for lunch...add a couple hard boiled eggs to it. Not sure about dinner. Having the other half of the cheesesteak is likely too much.
Day 19—09/10— 161.2 - Getting my hair cut today....YAY! Will color it tomorrow and I will feel like my old self again. I'll eat my other half cheesesteak today for lunch. Dinner might be fish and veggies.
I need help to put the new bicycle seat on my ebike. I am going to try a bike shop but a lot of them won't have anything to do with stuff they haven't sold themselves. If they turn me down, I don't know what I will do. The original seat is too uncomfortable for me to ride any real distance.
Day 20—09/11— 162.4 - Food was good yesterday…I decided to have a green salad for dinner. Haven't decided on today's food yet. Got my haircut and will color later. I found out that the local bike shop will be willing to help with my bike seat, so that's nice to know. I hope to stop back over there today.

Starting Weight from End of Last Challenge: : 185.6
Goal This Round: 175.6 (10 pounds)
Challenge Actual Ending Weight: xxxxx
Total Lost/Gained this challenge: xxxxx
🔜🔜🔜🔜🔜Ultimate Goal: 145-155 (I’ll know Exactly when I get there!)
Thoughts at the start of this round:
This round will be challenging as it includes the U.S. holidays of Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving. All are big foodie or party and dessert type holidays in the U.S. There are also multiple birthday celebrations in my family. In addition, there will be a lot of travel which is traditional in the fall for me as I try to avoid as many icy driving trips as possible in the winter months. There will be lots of doctor appointments away from home as well as Christmas and gift-giving shopping in this round. I will have to make sure I stay on top of my plan in every moment I can and to make the necessary corrections every time the scale goes up. We can’t control the ingredients in restaurant food so portion control will be key when away from home. I will again aim for a 10 pound loss this round. Thanks for sharing your journey with me and allowing me to share mine. I am grateful for you all.

Day 19—09/10— 185.7 ❌ (Trend Weight: 184.7) I honestly expected worse so I’ll take it! Some of this is likely some fluid buildup too from so many hours of sitting in the car. I hope to shed the fluid over the next couple of days and see where I’m at. I do expect that I will slide up & down the 180’s for awhile, just as I did the 190’s and the 200’s. It doesn’t come off and stay off that easily at my age! Persistence does eventually pay off though.
🐝🐝🐝🐝 Day 20—09/11—Well, there’s the rest of the travel weight I was expecting yesterday. Yikes! 4.4 lbs higher than the before travel weight Monday morning just prior to leaving! Hopefully some of this is fluid retention that I have a difficult time shedding. I will take my water pill today like a good girl and hope that helps. DD and DGS will be back late this afternoon. I will not be derailed

Week 3
Day 15—09/06—147.2 Classic case of what happens when I don’t have time to cook healthier meals. Between work and home renovations, dinner has been quick & easy options including lots of fast food. Add in the pain in my right hip…. waaaah! Excuses, excuses.
Day 16—09/07—146.4 Very busy day yesterday, but I managed to cook a healthy dinner and food choices overall were much, much better. Let’s hope I can stay consistent.
Day 17—09/08—145.7 Again, I made healthier food choices and also lots of walking: Home Depot, Costco, Safeway and an additional 60-min brisk walk with Kaya.
Day 18—09/09—145.9 Eating was good yesterday, so I attribute this slight increase to a normal fluctuation.
Day 19—09/10—145.5 It’s been awhile since I’ve met a weekly goal. It’s right there… I can do this.
Day 20—09/11—146.5 No rhyme or reason for this.

@age_is_just_a_number @crochetluvr
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm trying to keep that sense of perspective too.
Years ago I worked for a power company. When people asked, "Why is my power bill so high?" I sometimes had to bite my tongue so as not to reply "News flash. Because you used that much."
Usually when we talked it over, they would realise some reason for it, like guests over the holidays, or they'd put in a new AC system - but now they were cooling the whole house instead of just the main room. And yes, a lot more appliances than they realised - all sucking up voltage.
Many decided to got on a set price plan, paying say $100 a month all year, instead of high bills in one season, low in others. But they still owed money after 12 months. How come?
Because initially when they got that Big Bill, they sprang into action. Super vigilant about turning off lights when leaving the room, donning or removing a sweater instead of adjusting the thermostat (already set for maximum efficiency) turning off appliances and computers when not in use, not just shutting down the screen, but off at the wall etc. Down goes the power bill! Success!
But once they were on that set amount, they gradually stopped paying attention and began reverting to old habits. They didn't consciously say to themselves, I'll leave the AC on while I'm out so it will be cool inside when I get back. It doesn't matter because it all costs the same - but that's what was happening. They were back to using the old amount of power again, while still thinking they were only using $100 worth a month.
That's what been happening with me maintenance wise, since I stopped tracking, I've been less conscious about those little habits. The little lick of the peanut butter off the knife when making my gk a sandwich, that whole muffin at church after service, instead of asking if someone else would like to go halves, that "oh I can't be bothered cooking tonight, let's just order pizza" ……All coming a bit more often than they should, once I took a good look and was really honest with myself.
Exactly the way I gained 70 pounds in the first place! (over 10 years) And then quite a few years of yoyo dieting, before I eventually realised that:
- Slow and steady, with moderation in all in things food and exercise, is better than feast or famine, from couch potato to 5k back to couch potato - all within 3 months! 40 pounds lost in a month diets are for suckers.
- Paying attention is absolutely necessary, and tracking helps me maintain that attention. I'm not going to obsess over it - record a handful of fresh herbs in the soup? A cup of black coffee? the Communion wafer? Don't think so. But be honest about the amount of mayo in that salad. And that fresh adds up, when you have several pieces a day. I may have occasional blowouts - family wedding coming up! - but less of "oh just this little bit won't matter this once."
Jumping in a little bit late, but From April 23 to July 24 (think those dates are right) I lost over 70 lbs and got down to 134. I stayed that weight for a good 10 months, but recently the number on the scale is slowly creeping up again - up to 143! Yikes! Let's see if I can drop those 9 unwanted extra pounds in the remaining 80 days!
Day 20—09/11— 143 lb.
Day 21—09/12— 143 lb.
Week 3 Start Weight: 143
Week 3 Goal: Just don't gain any more!
Week 3 Actual Weight: Only 24 hours in, And weekend coming up. But feel first small step has been taken. Onwards with resolution!

@tinathescreamer Welcome and enjoy the joy of losing! :)
4 -
@tinathescreamer I really like you electricity usage analogy.
Earlier this year, I resolved that I’ll track forever. I’ve gotten to 125lbs three or four times previously. Once there, I stopped tracking and before I knew it my next highest weight was 5-10lbs higher than the previous highest weight. This time (Jan 2025 was 155lbs). I’m slowly working my way and living my life back to 125, AND I want to live my life at 125. The only way I can see that happening is if I come to us to keep tracking everyday. It doesn’t take long to track and highlights when things are going ‘off’ early.4 -
My account was hacked. I'm deleting it.

@age_is_just_a_number Yes, it's a good feedback loop, esp if you don't just look at the total calories, but the amount for each individual food item. One raw carrot = 20 cal vs slice of carrot cake = 450 cal? Yikes! Need to stop telling myself "It's okay because this cake is healthy. It's got carrot in it."

You can see where in early September I got stuck at the 192's. I am right at my goal for this challenge of 178 lbs. I am thinking I should raise it to 180lbs, but for now we are going to keep it. I am so excited about getting into the 180s! I haven't seen that number in so long! When I graduated from college I was 174…

Day 21—09/12— I thought I might hit goal this week, BUUUUUT.....Oh well....Onward and downward. It will happen.
Got the seat on my bike and I am ready to go! Colored my hair today in time for attending tonight's Phillies game. I feel good again. I am not particularly vain, but getting my hair fixed is very uplifting for me. I am going to have a flounder hoagie for dinner at the game....my meal for the day. Never had one before, but it sounds good.

Hi. I’m an unretired (by choice) senior from central B.C., Canada. Back for another round. Am an absolute turtle at losing and a hare at backsliding! This round my hope it to hang on to each loss then move down from there. Put an end to this eternal yo-yoing.

I need help to put the new bicycle seat on my ebike. I am going to try a bike shop but a lot of them won't have anything to do with stuff they haven't sold themselves. If they turn me down, I don't know what I will do. The original seat is too uncomfortable for me to ride any real distance.
Most Bike shops will work on an E-Bike as long as it isn't the electronics, just swapping seats will work. I suggest you buy the seat from that bike shop and 99% will put it on for you. If you are looking to ride more than 30 minutes I suggest getting padded shorts. A smaller saddle with padded shorts is the most comfortable way to ride.

Day 20—09/11—Well, there’s the rest of the travel weight I was expecting yesterday. Yikes! 4.4 lbs higher than the before travel weight Monday morning just prior to leaving! Hopefully some of this is fluid retention that I have a difficult time shedding. I will take my water pill today like a good girl and hope that helps. DD and DGS will be back late this afternoon. I will not be derailed
🐝🐝🐝🐝 Day 21—09/12—183.4 ✅ (Trend Weight: 184.9) 4.6 lb loss overnight although this was a later weigh-in than usual as I lay back down on Friday mornings after DGS school bus. This 4.6 lb loss explains why I will often not weigh directly after travel (food and sitting). The inflated weight is often just fluid my heart can’t pump through and I can’t take my water pill for that while on the road. The drastically lower weight after pill just puts me back where I’m really at, no fat loss. Both numbers are fantastical so I usually just avoid the scale until I’m home and can take my prescription. I often get people from all my different challenges say I should “weigh anyway” , “see what foods affect me”, etc. etc. etc. I even get private messages about it from well-meaning friends. While this may be good and true info for some, it is just not the same for me or others like me. I don’t need to know I’m bloated or affected by salt or sitting. I already know my body can’t pump it out without help. Anyway, just thought I would vent and share how frustrating this can be, this drastic gain & loss, as it does impede my information I could be gleaning. I did have an excellent day yesterday in spite of DD and DGS arriving. Very low calorie, moderate carbs and extra time on the exercise bike as I finished out watching a show while on it. All good. Now, to get back to 181.8 or lower!

Day 21—09/12—145.2 I was hesitant to hop on the scale this morning and have to face yet another week of not hitting my goal. But I did! Yay!
Week 3 Start Weight: 147.2

And eat carrots 10 or even 20 times more often than carrot cake.4 -

Definitely!!
When you are in a restaurant, you can also request for half a serving to be served to you and the other half put in a box.
For quite some time I was noting down those 5 week estimates and then comparing to where I actually was in 5 weeks. Let’s just say, I’m not sure how MFP makes those estimates, but I never got to their estimate.
I’m grateful that my Fitbit and MFP stopped syncing the OUT calories because now those estimates are completely irrelevant. Instead I just compare my actual weight from 5 weeks ago to current. I also have a running projection starting from my mid-June actual of where I’d be if I lost .3, .5, .7 and 1lbs per week. It is all just games, but keeps me mostly on track.

Hi. I’m an unretired (by choice) senior from central B.C., Canada. Back for another round. Am an absolute turtle at losing and a hare at backsliding! This round my hope it to hang on to each loss then move down from there. Put an end to this eternal yo-yoing.
“You don’t have to throw a pass down the whole length of the field to score a touchdown. You can get there one yard at a time.”
Week 1: 175.2 -> 175.8
Week 2: 178.4 Lunch @ A &W yesterday
Week 3: 175.8
Day 15 ~ 09/06: 176.6
Day 16 ~ 09/07: 175.8
Day 17 ~ 09/08: 177.6 ham yesterday! Day 1 of LIVY method.
Day 18 ~ 09/09: 176 only 4 crackers w/margarine with supper. Then thru evening and night w/o any snacks. Yeah!!
Day 19 ~ 09/10: 175.6 Busy day, all meals shifted by 3hrs later. Walked Scout Island 40 min. No evening snacks.
Day 20 ~ 09/11: 175.2 Day got all messed up. Missed #2 snack, overate at dinner and still felt hungry. Snacked at night.
Day 21 ~ 09/12: 175.8 Back on track altho meals shifted 2 to 3 hrs late. Seems to work better for me, ?? result of many years of working afternoon shifts.
