This is why I focus on VO2Max, it takes into consideration your weight (muscle/fat/water/etc…), and how well your muscles breath. So in theory you are getting your fat that doesn't breath (that's right fat doesn't need O2 except when it is being burned) in the denominator, the less fat you have the higher your VO2Max… The better your body is at consuming O2 the more lean muscle you have and the better trained it is at burning fat and sugar…. So I like tracking this metric because it is overall health instead of just a factor that doesn't lead you to health. What I mean is you can have body fat of 15% and still have a very low VO2Max because you eat a little, keep the fat off, but because you don't train your muscles, you aren't that healthy either. This is my 2 cents, and if you paid 2 cents for it you over paid! lol

This fall and winter when the snow starts to fly I need to keep training indoors, this is where I always fall off the train « PUNishment get it lol. I think starting in October, I am going to do a indoor training challenge or start one on here. I am finding doing this 100 day challenge and this one, everyone gives me motivation. I am ready for a winter where I gain or maintain my VO2Max instead of hibernating.
6 -
I like that. @Jon4189
You've got that sweet, sweet Zwift bike now! I think you're going to find it much easier to stay closer to your peak this winter.
6 -
Yesterday's workout started with a 35 minute route on Zwift. It was flat-ish with a couple of short grades. It took me into zone 4 cardio a couple of times I finished the hour with a Zone 2 cooldown on the bike with my favorite Youtube cycling channel. These cyclists film their rides through the most gorgeous routes in Europe.
The rest of my day was lazy. I deserve a lazy Sunday. Off to work I go.
Have a great day, everyone.

Thoughts at the start of this round:
This round will be challenging as it includes the U.S. holidays of Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving. All are big foodie or party and dessert type holidays in the U.S. There are also multiple birthday celebrations in my family. In addition, there will be a lot of travel which is traditional in the fall for me as I try to avoid as many icy driving trips as possible in the winter months. There will be lots of doctor appointments away from home as well as Christmas and gift-giving shopping in this round. I will have to make sure I stay on top of my plan in every moment I can and to make the necessary corrections every time the scale goes up. We can’t control the ingredients in restaurant food so portion control will be key when away from home. I will again aim for a 10 pound loss this round. Thanks for sharing your journey with me and allowing me to share mine. I am grateful for you all.

CURRENT WEEK:
Day 15—183.4 ✅ (Trend Weight: 184.9)
Day 16—09/07—182.6 ✅ (Trend Weight – 184.7) Another compliant day yesterday as I continue to run as far away from the bully September 4th (the scale) as possible. That mean old scale jumped up several times this round into very shark-infested territory. It was primarily due to the holiday BBQ and the travel day. That’s behind me now and I managed to end 3 lbs down this round. There will be more travel coming up this week which includes an overnight and a ton of being stationary and sitting, sitting, sitting. I won’t be able to manage the ingredients in my restaurant foods completely, but I can still manage the portions. I must learn to travel smarter since I’m required to do much more of it than I like, especially this time of year until January 1st when it will slow down somewhat until Spring.
🐝🐝🐝🐝 Day 17—09/08—183.6 ❌ (Trend Weight – 184.6) Leaving shortly for the two day medical trip. Mammogram and Oncology appointments at the University Hospital that saved my life when I had breast cancer. Routine annual check-up. I hope you all will remember to get your Mamms! Lunch yesterday was on target but dinner was pasta and an ice cream treat (huge!) from the local ice cream place. My attitude was that the next two days are going to be skewed anyway so the heck with it. Not a good plan! It’s the perfect example of letting the air out of the other 3 tires, except this time I didn’t even wait for the initial flat, I did it ahead. I tried to ride the heck out of my exercise bike last night to make up for it but then, there’s that old saying that you can’t outrun the fork. Very true! Up one pound overnight.

Good Afternoon!
Day 15—09/06— 162.2 - Started today with a granola bar. Have to hit the grocery store later...no milk and need salad fixings. I was just getting used to the cooler weather. I need fall now. Goal is the same....maybe THIS week will be the charm.
Day 16—09/07— 162.2 - Started the day with blueberry yogurt and a roll. I could have skipped the roll, but it's ok. Not sure what the rest of the day holds. Yesterday my daughter was at my ex's and they fired up the grill so I was invited to lunch. Had a hot dog and tomato slices. And I was satisfied even though they had cheeseburgers too. So I was a good girl... lol!
Day 17—09/08— 162.2- I finished up the English muffins I had in my fridge. Dinner will be a cheesesteak at the ballpark...I have not had a cheesesteak since my mother used to make them...who totally turned me off them. Going to try a good one. I always take water with me, but I may get a diet soda while I am there.

Hi : - )
I am Dawn. I will turn 65 this round. I have changed my eating habits over time. I basically eat half of the amount that I used to, and have limited eating Ribs to once every 3 months instead of once per week.
Week 1 Start Weight: 137.8
Week 1 Goal: 136.8
Week 1 Actual Weight: 140.8 - Exactly a 3 pound gain : - (
Week 2 Start Weight: 140.2
Week 2 Goal: 136.6 - ambitious I know
Week 2 Actual Weight: 137.6
Day 15—09/06— 137.6 - I am dosing myself up with Dayquil and cough syrup just to get through these next 2 workdays. Drinking lot of water with lemon. I can't walk into the hospital sick on Monday morning and expect them to do the procedure. Hoping that this cold crests already. I am getting my nails done during the break on my split shift today, I will wear a mask so as not to infect her.
Day 16—09/07— 137.8 - So groggy this morning. Too much medicine to get through the workday (Dayquil etc.) and cough medicine an hour before my break and manicure so that I wouldn't cough. Neo Citran and Nyquil to be able to go to sleep without a runny nose and coughing. I haven't had much appetite, but ate an entire belle pepper while at work and half of an apple. I had 2 dinners last night. My belly was hungry even though I didn't feel like eating. I had some of my own borscht from my freezer, and my own version of chicken biryani from my freezer. Tomorrow morning I will have to dose up on cough syrup and Dayquil again, so that they don't turn me away from my foot procedure at the hospital. No walking or driving after the procedure. I will putter around gently, or maybe just go to bed : - )
Day 17—09/08— 136.4 pre-bathroom - Posting a little late today. I am home from the hospital and have to stay off of my feet. A friend dropped me and picked me up afterward, since no driving is allowed. I doubt that I will make my goal of 130 in 12 days (my birthday), especially with all of the family dinners and stuff while in Toronto. I got some dance workouts done this morning because I knew that it would be forbidden afterward because I have had this procedure before. Still hopped up on cold medication because I didn't want to cough, sneeze, blow my nose etc. while on the table under x-ray as they insert the needle deep into the small joint on the tops of both feet and I am not supposed to move a muscle. Man, it is a painful thing to get done (no room for both medicine and freezing), but I had such good results the last time and it lasted 3 months. Just having my second cup of coffee now, I didn't get a chance to have breakfast today, and am pretty much un-interesed in eating anything. Maybe later. It is hot in my house because I haven't done the nightly opening of the windows because it has been so smoky here. I really don't feel like doing anything at the moment. Cold medication has me feeling kind of out of it. Not even sure that I even still have the cold because I have been suppressing it for days now.

Week 3
Day 15—09/06—147.2 Classic case of what happens when I don’t have time to cook healthier meals. Between work and home renovations, dinner has been quick & easy options including lots of fast food. Add in the pain in my right hip…. waaaah! Excuses, excuses.
Day 16—09/07—146.4 Very busy day yesterday, but I managed to cook a healthy dinner and food choices overall were much, much better. Let’s hope I can stay consistent.
Day 17—09/08—145.7 Again, I made healthier food choices and also lots of walking: Home Depot, Costco, Safeway and an additional 60-min brisk walk with Kaya.

@Jon4189 Re VO2Max vs visceral fat. I think I follow the logic. For me, I just want to healthfully age with some muscle mass and a little less fat. I'm not really interested in esthetics or competition (just competition with myself). Maybe I'll put the VO2Max on one of my tracking sheets. I did two of the different tests and got pretty different results (44 vs 50). It would be easy to redo those tests say monthly. I definitely hear you regarding 15% body fat with no muscle —→ that's called 'skinny fat'. I lift as heavy as I can in my home gym. Every year, I debate whether it is time to join a gym to get access to heavier weights in machines and/or bar bells. Every year, I stick with my home gym.
Regarding non-hibernation in winter. We have a dog and that is a great reason to get outdoors in winter. I love winter and being outside. It is just a matter of dressing correctly for it.
@deepwoodslady Re Mamms ✔️
Love this analogy "It’s the perfect example of letting the air out of the other 3 tires". I need to remember that one!@Crochetluvr Can't wait to hear how the cheesesteak was. I'm not sure I've ever had one. Enjoy the game!
@dawnbgethealthy Glad the procedure went well. Hope you are feeling better before your trip.

Good Day, Ladies and Gentlemen!
@Jon4189 , good luck today!
@age_is_just_a_number , it was DELICIOUS! I will definitely be going back again one day. I am glad I can only eat half of one now....a year ago I could have eaten the whole thing, had an order of onion rings on the side and a Coke.
@bteri107 , walking is the BEST! And you don't have to walk a great distance. I miss malls....I could get in plenty of walking and have fun looking in the stores, too.
@dawnbgethealthy , I just want to wish you a speedy recovery on both issues. And I can imagine all those family dinners will be a challenge, but enjoy that time...I know you will.
Day 18—09/09— 161.6 - Wow...Although I only ate half the cheesesteak (which was delicious, btw), I thought my weight would be up and I was prepared. The body can be tricky sometimes. Today I had an Atkins shake for breakfast....they are a good low carb start to the day. Will probably have a salad for lunch...add a couple hard boiled eggs to it. Not sure about dinner. Having the other half of the cheesesteak is likely too much.

Hi : - )
Day 18—09/09— 136.6 - I was practically awake all night laying in bed listening to the radio and dozing in and out. First night without cold medication, so coughing and blowing my nose, but I am not sure if it is linked to how much smoke there is here. When I got home from the procedure I spent several hours doing a whole bunch of stuff in the yard. Nothing that impacted my feet, but still I inhaled all of that particulate. I wanted to get a sense of where my cold was at which I have been masking since Thursday morning to get through my workdays and medical procedure. I either have to get all of the garden beds covered today or risk losing what is still there, I suppose that I can wait until tomorrow. I did scrub out my little pool, that took me an hour and a half. I have giant bowls of bell peppers, tomatoes, and jalapeno peppers that I harvested yesterday. They are all still in flower and have small fruits on them that need to grow for a couple more weeks (if covered).
Day 19—09/10—
Day 20—09/11— Flying out to Toronto. My travel scale is packed, but it might have some wonky numbers compared to my home scale, plus it will travel in my suitcase.

@Jon4189 good luck at golf!
@Crochetluvr glad you enjoyed the ball park and the cheesesteak.
@dawnbgethealthy sorry to hear you didn’t sleep well. I hope you are able to get your garden covered then rest before your flight. Enjoy your trip.
@frankwbrown I know you didn’t ask me, but I’m going to tell you about my macros. I have MFP set to target carbs 40%, Fat 30%, protein 30%. I typically go over on carbs and fat. My protein target is 100 grams. I consume between 90 & 105 most days. Protein should be eaten evenly throughout the day.
Fun fact: All food has some amount of protein in it. Most plants don’t haveT all the amino acids. The current science belief is that the body cannot store the individual amino acids, but there is a recent study that implies this conclusion may be incorrect. I heard that in the Talking with Docs YouTube channel.6 -
Hi. I’m an unretired (by choice) senior from central B.C., Canada. Back for another round. Am an absolute turtle at losing and a hare at backsliding! This round my hope it to hang on to each loss then move down from there. Put an end to this eternal yo-yoing.

Day 18—09/09—145.9 Eating was good yesterday, so I attribute this slight increase to a normal fluctuation.
Day 19—09/10—

Week 3 Start Weight: 147.2
Week 3 Goal: 145.2

I feel like I can taste it. With consistency, I’m thinking next week or the following week I’ll break into the 130s.
That is, assuming I don’t over do things while we are camping from tomorrow (10th) to the following Friday (19th).
I’ll weigh tomorrow and then not again until the 20th.Only time will tell. I’ve been here before. I just don’t want to ever be back here again. I’ve been logging every day since January 6th. My husband has finally accepted the logging. The other day he made sausages and he left the package out for me to scan!
You’ll get there too! It just takes time and consistency. Keep it up.

Sure my target is 90 grams per day.

Day 17—09/08—183.6 ❌ (Trend Weight – 184.6) Leaving shortly for the two day medical trip.

🎯 Started strong and then just got back into the maintain mode. Not complaining since it is lower than my last 209-211 holding pattern. But really want to strive to feeling more comfortable in a bathing suit before cruising in the South Pacific in March. Pep Talk Time! 6 months … half a year! Plenty of time to lose 20-30 pounds if I focus on 5 lbs per month … basically a pound a week. Dedicate the next 24 weeks to breaking through those mental barriers and pushing the holding pattern lower and lower. Next month’s goal … <2039/1: 209.8 / 208.4 - Yikes! Strong & Fit class

9/9: 208.6 / 207.8 - Crazy busy day coordinating and testing 58 adult ESL students plus my art class. My Marley Spoon box came in. I love the variety that they offer and the meals are healthy though the portions are too big. It made it really easy to serve pork loin with butternut squash and Brussels sprouts.
9/10: 207.8 / 207.9 - bike 30 min Today I’m devoting to watercolor and making sure I get on my bike. I had 2 compliments that I’m trimming up (especially the legs) … due to the almost daily bike ride. My hematologist oncologist visit was cancelled for today after they tried for 3 weeks to get insurance approval for the lab work. No reason to see him if we have no lab results to review. When I switch to Medicare in October the lab work will not need approval and will be covered. I guess there is one good thing about turning 65 soon.7 -
@bteri107 We always say that our dog is the best exercise equipment we ever bought!!! Enjoy your walks!
@dawnbgethealthy The smoke can definitely do avocate with your sinuses!!! Cover those veggies before taking off on vacation! Wish I could join you for a few relaxing quiet days of reading and painting by the lake.
@deepwoodslady Happy for you that your mammo results were clean! Now to address that mindset of deflating the rest of the tires when the first has not yet gone flat. I like that thought process. We all need the reminder … kind of like not throwing the baby out with the bath water.
@age_is_just_a_number Camping! Where are you headed for the week? What is your favorite ACTIVity when camping. Mine is walking in the woods but then I love a good campfire :)
@ptitejeanne I totally agree any little bit down on the scale is a win as long as I'm not jumping up 5 pounds I feel better about my progress. That tipping over a 5 or 10 pound increment should send me into a healthier mindset but not always. Damage control is not my best quality. I love that you are doing so well at maintaining … it is definitely an inspiration for future me.
