Hi : - )
I am Dawn. I will turn 65 this round. I have changed my eating habits over time. I basically eat half of the amount that I used to, and have limited eating Ribs to once every 3 months instead of once per week.
Week 1 Start Weight: 137.8
Week 1 Goal: 136.8
Week 1 Actual Weight: 140.8 - Exactly a 3 pound gain : - (
Day 08—08/30— 140.2 - I had to "quick add calories" to yesterday's food diary, I added 230. This happens very rarely. After work I had errands to run, and then spent a few hours on yard/garden stuff since I am running short of time before my trip departure. I ate "lunch" at 8pm, so no time or appetite for dinner. I did have a bowl of green beans that I had picked, that was around 10pm. One of these days my bathroom trip will not be an hour after I weigh and I will get a woosh. 2 cups of coffee each morning, no point in weighing after that.
Day 09—08/31— 138.6 - 4 days done of my 13 straight without a day off. Trying to pace myself.
Day 10—09/01— 137.6 - Super busy day at work yesterday. I took lots of food with me to last 8 hours, but didn't get to eat any of it, not even the cherries. 2 jobs today, tomorrow, and the next, so I am packing food each day because I don't have time to go home in between jobs. I am on day 6 of 13 straight as of this morning. My first day off will be the day that I have to go into the hospital for a medical procedure on my feet. No walking or driving for a couple of days, but I expect that I will be able to at least pack. I booked off an extra day, the day before I leave for holidays, so that I can get everything harvested and/or covered before my trip. Whirlwind, but I have to keep going.
Day 11—09/02— 137.6 - I weighed an hour earlier than yesterday, so I feel like I might have dropped 1/2 pound even though it didn't show on the scale. 2 jobs again today and tomorrow.
Day 12—09/03— 137.8 - I didn't start dinner until midnight, and I am normally in bed around 11! I had to eat though. 2 jobs today and then I plan on having a glass of wine or a cocktail. I have a light day tomorrow and a busy day on Friday with appointments before and after work. Hoping to get into my tiny pool tomorrow after work. My car thermometer driving between jobs read 97 degrees (yes, my cluster is in Farenheit) and I was stuck having to go to work inside the LTC home where it is always hot and the work is hot. The temperature downtown here is about 5 degrees hotter than the airport up in the mountains, where the weather station is, plus the concrete absorbs the heat and sun all day. Since I was up town I needed to shop a little bit after work even though I am flying out in a week. I was just about out of hummus which I eat pretty much daily. When I got home I had to do several hours of watering since the garden was withering under the heat. It all looks happy this morning, but we are in for another hot day and watering is prohibited on Wednesdays which could mean hand watering tonight which is very time consuming. All good though. Really not ready for my trip, but I am getting through these last 5 work days before my foot procedure, after which I am not supposed to drive or walk, definitely not do my daily much needed dancing. I will focus on organizing and packing my suitcase on those 2 days. I am taking Wednesday off of work and will harvest and cover everything before I depart early Thursday morning. I am getting through these 13 days without days off, and am more than halfway through : - )

Good Afternoon, All!
Day 08—08/30— 163.4 - Had a light day except for spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and a popsicle for dessert. But sure could have been worse.
Day 09—08/31—163 - I see I didn't have to worry about yesterday. Today so far, I've had pasta salad and 2 slices of a BIG beefsteak tomato. Will have Ramen soup for dinner. Watermelon is on the menu. too. Beautiful day out again today....did a couple errands. My bike needs a small repair which I can handle...will do that a bit later.
Day 10—09/01— 163.4 - supposed to have Cane's chicken for late lunch/early dinner. Haven't had it in awhile. I will be prepared with insulin. Its my meal for the day. Probably have an apple tonight for a snack.
Day 11—09/02— 163.4 - Well, didn't have Cane's....they were closed for the holiday, which was fine. So, ended up with Chinese instead.…no problem. Except the sodium water retention. But that will pass. I had leftover wonton/egg drop soup for lunch....gotta figure out dinner yet. Might be pasta salad....still have some left.
Found out the mice are back. Not much of an issue with me as I keep my apartment pretty clean, but exterminator will be out on Thursday.
Day 12—09/03— 163.6 - A lazy day today..didn't feel like doing much. Had soft boiled eggs and English muffin for brunch. Not sure about dinner. ..don't feel like cooking.

yes, my ultimate goal is 125 and/or 25% body fat. I was there pre-Covid & pre-menopause for about 2 years. Gained 30lbs over 4 years (2021-2024). I’ve lost approx 13lbs in 2025. Another 17 to go. I don’t have a deadline. At the rate I’m going, I’m hoping another 8-12 months.
Once I get there, I’ll reevaluate goals.6 -
@dawnbgethealthy The pictures look so serene and peaceful! Lovely idea finding your zen and I'm sure that you'll enjoy the hiking with your feet "fixed". And we all know that water brings you joy. Love that you'll have time to read and relax away from the hubbub. Can't wait to hear more as you enjoy your 65th! birthday.

@age_is_just_a_number Yep … doable but I agree that looking at what I'm taking "in" will be important. I've lost it before and can do it again. I though would be happy just getting below 200 and maintaining that at this point in my life as a good solid start.
We are new to cruising and recently went all in because of our bucket list of places to see and 4 of my friends losing their husbands and a couple of other friends passing … all our age. So 4 large cruises (Japan, Alaska, Europe, South Pacific) in basically a year April 2025 - March 2026 is really really unusual for us. 2023 we went on 1 cruise … our first which was a 10 day experiment enjoying Scotland and Norway. Then the floodgates opened up. In 2024 we went on 3 cruises for a total of 28 days. This year 2025 3 cruises 46 days. And now we'll start 2026 with 1 cruise and 36 days with the option of something we are looking at later in the year.
We are talking about renting a sprinter style RV and touring US and Canada too. I personally love camping (did scouts with all 3 of my kids) but DH is wishy washy on the topic. But put a home on wheels at a national park and scenic roadtrip and he is all in. We are thinking of setting aside 6 months or 2 on 2 off leaving the vehicle in storage and flying home. We'll see if that comes to an actual plan. But it is in the back of our minds.

Hello Thursday! I hope everyone is having a great week!
I'm 57 years old, 6'2", and my goal for this 100-day challenge is to reach 178 lbs. I started at 4/11/2025 at ~217.

Week 2 Start wt: 191.0 (loss of 1.5 lbs)6 -
Goal is to get back to pre-vacation weight of 140.5. Once I'm there, then I'll start setting a weekly goal.
IN calorie target is 1770. Target protein 100 grams per day. Met both targets yesterday.
Good day yesterday. First post-vacation day in which I both did intentional exercise and walked the dog.
Exercise was 3 FitOn videos Debbie's Step & Sweat, PJ's Bone Building Strength, Peter's Daily Practice yoga. We are camping starting next week, so I'm not going to start a new BOD program until after we return home.5 -
Your cruising adventures sound amazing. Our recent cruise was with SIL & BIL. They are 64 and have a similar approach as you regarding getting their travel in. Both are feeling the aches & pains of arthritis and past injuries and new medical conditions creeping up. So, they are focused on travelling now, while they are able to. Having said that, we saw lots of people on our cruise who were much older at varying degrees of mobility. You just never know what is around the corner.
We've retired on the earlier side (57), so feel like we need to be more measured with travel plans. As long as my husband is willing and able to drive, I see us camping.
We've been camping for 30 years. Highlights of our camping in Spoiler:
Started with a tent (which we still have)
Move to a tent trailer for 9 seasons 2003 to 2011
Upgraded our tow vehicle from a van to a full sized SUV and went to a hard sided travel travel with RV double bunk beds and a king bed that slide out the rear of the trailer for 6 seasons 2012 to 2017. On our last trip with this trailer, we went without the teenaged kids.
Moved to a couples trailer with a walk around residential sized queen bed and a bedroom door! What a novelty. Just finishing our 8th season with this trailer. 2018 to 2025.
We will receive our new trailer in March or April. It is a little smaller than our current trailer. It is a fiber glass and built more like a boat with two fiber glass shells that are sealed together with a strip of more fiber glass. It also has a walk around queen bed, but an RV sized queen and no bedroom door. It is lighter and will be more nimble for towing and parking. We expect this will be our last trailer because fiber glass trailers last forever.
We've travelled with our 4 kids all across Canada and parts of the US. Major trips include:
2009 —> 5 week trip to Victoria BC
2011 —> 3 week trip to St. John's Nfld.
2012 —> 4 week trip to Yellowstone & Waterton Lakes
For the last few years, we've redone some of the trips with just the two of us:
2022 —> 4 weeks trip to the Rocky Mountains, Lake Louise, Jasper, Banff
We really enjoy the flexibility of camping.

Hi : - )
I am getting through these 13 days without days off, and am more than halfway through : - )
Day 13—09/04— 137.4 - I had been doing Echinachea for 2 days, but last night on my drive home from work a cold really hit me which I had felt coming on and had hoped to circumvent. I don't usually catch them. Argh. I will have to get some Dayquil to get through these next few days. No coffee cream in my coffee this morning, and I will skip my yoghurt granola thing because dairy in my mind is to be avoided when trying to dry up phlegm. Soldiering on.

Day 13—09/04— 162.4 - Feeling a little better. Temps are headed up so not finished with the a/c yet. Going to organize my refrigerator and yarn today....they both need it. I feel like making mac and cheese....haven't had it in awhile. And a hard boiled egg sandwich sounds good for lunch.

Thoughts at the start of this round:
This round will be challenging as it includes the U.S. holidays of Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving. All are big foodie or party and dessert type holidays in the U.S. There are also multiple birthday celebrations in my family. In addition, there will be a lot of travel which is traditional in the fall for me as I try to avoid as many icy driving trips as possible in the winter months. There will be lots of doctor appointments away from home as well as Christmas and gift-giving shopping in this round. I will have to make sure I stay on top of my plan in every moment I can and to make the necessary corrections every time the scale goes up. We can’t control the ingredients in restaurant food so portion control will be key when away from home. I will again aim for a 10 pound loss this round. Thanks for sharing your journey with me and allowing me to share mine. I am grateful for you all.

Day 12—09/03— 185.2 ✅ (Trend Weight: 184.9) Traveling today. I dread the lack of exercise/movement and what the scale will read tomorrow after restaurant food. I can’t control the exact ingredients so I’ll try to focus and exercise control of the portions. It feels like I’ll probably be playing catch up the entire month of September after the past few days of huge increases! Uphill battles but I don’t tire easily!
🐝🐝🐝🐝Day 13—09/04—188.0 ❌ (Trend Weight: 185.2) I don’t need to know how travel/sitting and restaurants affect me. I already know from years of experience and documenting. So, I almost didn’t weigh today knowing that it wouldn’t be good but this time curiosity got the best of me. I’ve got a stretch of a couple of days before I travel for an overnight medical trip Monday/Tuesday next week. I hope to make the most of it, even with my DD and DGS arriving today, food-filled totes and all. I’m pre-logging today as soon as I’m done posting. I’m a whole pound above my #7 which is my comfort zone. I won’t be having it!

Day 12—09/03—145.9 Busy past couple of days. Haven’t been really mindful of my health. Need to get back on the wagon. Renovation downstairs is going well. Separation wall is down, cabinets and ac unit is installed and currently being wired for power. Next step is finding granite countertop to match what’s already there, paint, then reno the bathroom. Stove gets delivered on the 16th. We keep going.
Day 13—09/04—145.9 Another busy few days ahead, but I’m hoping to squeeze in some time to stock up on food and necessities just in case Hurricane Kiko brings any impact our way. Looks like it’s expected to reach or pass close by early to mid next week. We sure don’t need a hurricane but some rain would definitely be welcome.

@age_is_just_a_number - Wow you've had a few camping adventures in many different forms. We basically did tent camping. In fact one year we took our 3 kids and 1 tent on a 2 week adventure in a minivan (it was stuffed full with a roof container on top). That trip we did Rocky Mountain National Park, Yellowstone and Custer State Park. We all have fond memories of that adventure.
Good for you retiring young!!! I retired after 30 years at HPE at age 58 … Loved my job until I didn't any more (those last 2 years I kept asking my boss to lay me off). Best decision ever. My plan was to travel with DH with his work but then covid hit. My husband retired at age 61. We are just turning 65 (in Oct and Nov this year). With so many friends dropping like flies we are traveling. We've been traveling with our adult children some too. And I love that they pay their way!!!! And still want to go with us. LOL 2023 we went with our oldest, his wife and 18 month old daughter to Scotland driving around for 2 weeks. In 2024 we went with our youngest son and his to France for a week driving around. We had plans with our daughter but then she wasn't able to travel due to pregnancy. Now she is planning a trip for us to join them next year (crossing my fingers). All our kids in there 30s now have the travel bug :) My granddaughter when they took their family to Olympic National Park and Seattle in Washington kept looking for Nana and Papoo because we were in Seattle recently. She kept thinking we would join them for dinner LOL After they got home she said "Nana I went on vacation like you! Where were you?"
DH wants to sell the house and move far away. I want to be close to my kids and grandkids. Today we have grandparents day at 2 of our granddaughters daycare (ages 1 and 3). Tomorrow we have our oldest granddaughter age 3.5 first T-ball game.

@dawnbgethealthy - One of our plans includes driving from Halifax to Vancouver across Canada … if and when we pull the trigger I will definitely stop in to see you!
@deepwoodslady - good for you stepping on the scale after a day of travel. We all know that it will be up but also that it will come down! And mentally it prepared you for your daughter and all the food she brings when staying with you … to try and keep some semblance of a routine in your eating and exercise routine. Love that you are in the 180s by the way!!!!! Keep it up. Remember back in the day when we were neck and neck … you pushed through the 200 barrier while I just let go and let my weight soar back up. You my dear are an inspiration!

🎯 Started strong and then just got back into the maintain mode. Not complaining since it is lower than my last 209-211 holding pattern. But really want to strive to feeling more comfortable in a bathing suit before cruising in the South Pacific in March. Pep Talk Time! 6 months … half a year! Plenty of time to lose 20-30 pounds if I focus on 5 lbs per month … basically a pound a week. Dedicate the next 24 weeks to breaking through those mental barriers and pushing the holding pattern lower and lower. Next month’s goal … <2039/1: 209.8 - Yikes! Strong & Fit class

Happy Friday!!!! I hope everyone is off to a great week, and we have a good weekend ahead! I am up .5 lbs this week. Not too worried, but I need to really focus on the calories this week. I road about 100 miles in the last 8 days, so I think a lot of the weight can be water held in muscles from all the activity.
The other data I am tracking is my VO2Max, which is probable one of the best indicators of overall heath, the higher the number the more likely you are to live longer.
My chart since I started losing weight and exercising more:
I am up to 40, my goal for the end of summer next year is to be in the mid 50s. So I am tracking well! I also haven't done a true test of my VO2max yet, so it is probable 5 points higher than it is calculated because I don't do all out efforts very often. Just getting to my goal weight of 175 overall, will get my VO2Max to 46.

I love that you are able to travel with your adult children and their children! Not everyone has that kind of relationship or ability. We have 4 kids ranging in age from 21 (will be 22 next month) to 29 (will be 30 in January). I'm very grateful for the camping we did with them as children. For a variety of reasons, travelling with them as adults isn't a current reality.
Right back at you for also retiring young!! I hear you regarding those last two years and asking your boss to let you go. Let's just say, the story is similar on my front. I was originally planning to work for another two years. But my dissatisfaction showed through in my work effort. There is definitely an up-side to retiring under these circumstances. I had been there for 30 years.
If you ever do travel across Canada, let me know. We've done it and have lots of favourites and must see places.

Hi @age_is_just_a_number , Oh, the year! yep. Thanks!
5 -
@bteri107 Thoughts and prayers are with you to weather Hurricane Kiko.
@Jon4189 Another amazing photograph.
Thanks for the video on VO2Max. I'd been wondering about VO2Max, but didn't realize there was a way to estimate it without going to a clinic and getting hooked up to a machine. This is another video from the [Caution: Includes cadaver images] Institute of Human Anatomy (IHA) that auto started after I watched the one you provided. I also found this VO2Max calculator that uses different 'at home' test approaches. It also includes this calculation to do an easy estimate:To calculate VO2 max with resting heart rate:
- First, calculate your maximum heart rate by multiplying your age by 0.7 and deducting the computed number from 208.
- Calculate your resting heart rate by measuring your pulse for 20 seconds and multiplying the number by 3.
- Then, divide your maximum heart rate by your resting heart rate and multiply the number by 15.3.
For me - Age 57, Resting HR from my FitBit 58.
Max heart rate 208 - (57*0.7) = 168
VO2Max (168/58)*15.3 = 44 ml/kg/min
That puts me in High category. Based on the IHA the incremental benefits of getting into Elite category are negligible.5 -
Hi : - )
I am getting through these 13 days without days off, and am more than halfway through : - )
Day 13—09/04— 137.4 - I had been doing Echinachea for 2 days, but last night on my drive home from work a cold really hit me which I had felt coming on and had hoped to circumvent. I don't usually catch them. Argh. I will have to get some Dayquil to get through these next few days. No coffee cream in my coffee this morning, and I will skip my yoghurt granola thing because dairy in my mind is to be avoided when trying to dry up phlegm. Soldiering on.
Day 14—09/05— 137.6 - I was awake way too early, but got up anyway because I have an early appointment before work today. I feel like the scale would have been lower had I weighed 2 hours later, but I was ready for coffee.

WOW, congratulations @Jon4189! VO2Max is so important. I've read about that in a number of sources.
You are crushing it! I've been keeping a close eye on mine. I also have not done a true V02Max test—and probably wont— but my apple watch gives me very consistent readings, and i've seen a steady increase since May as well. I'm back to where I was three years ago. I had lost ground. This is so inspiring!
Gorgeous astronomy picture!
