Hi All,
I'm Jenny, 60 years old, 5’6” and hit my goal weight in Feb. 2024 with the help of this group - maintained for 8 months and then just hit a really stressful stretch of life with toxic work situations, long hours and the stress of building a new home in DE and selling our old home in NY. It's like I defiantly watched myself start binge eating, drinking more alcohol and gaining almost every pound back. So here I am again - finally settled in the new house and doing what worked for me the first time - daily weighing, IF, logging and exercise. I’m also adding Noom to the mix to help me find better ways of coping with stress. My goal for this challenge is to simply keep with it – even after a slip. I can do this – I’ve done it before, I can do it again!
Day 04—08/26: 225.0 – It’s never pretty to step on the scale after a weekend away, but the jump scare is necessary! Did a cardio/weights workout and had a good day getting back OP.
Day 05—08/27: 219.6 – A pretty massive water whoosh for one day! Took a nice 30 min walk around the new neighborhood with DH, who is now doing food prep for us as we speak. Our main impetus for moving was to get him out of his toxic job, so now that he has more free time he has taken over all the household stuff, even the cooking which he had never done before…I wrote down instructions and turns he is actually really good at it! His cooking is actually better than mine, and takes a huge burden off my plate! So hopefully life will be less stressful for us both.
Day 06—08/28: 219.6 – A good OP day yesterday, a nice cardio/weights workout and a stretch this morning. Day 3 OP always results in the same thought for me – this isn’t so hard, why do I let myself crash for so long??
Day 07—08/29: 219.0 – OP yesterday and made an old favorite for lunch – Hungry Girl’s “Cold Sesame Zucchini Noodles.” Added some chicken and it was a yummy change! Spaghetti Squash & Turkey Meatballs for dinner was also yum. Enjoyed a walk with DH and starting to feel stronger.
Week 1 Loss or Gain: 6.0 pounds lost (a lot of water weight!)
Day 08—08/30: 218.6 – OP yesterday, and plan to stay that way today as well. Had a walk with DH yesterday and a good cardio/weights workout this morning, it’s a beautiful day so we’re about to go check out the new community pool that was just finished.
Day 09—08/31: 218.2 – did a little bit of a pool workout yesterday, and did a more extensive one today. Just stayed in the shallow end bc the air was a little chilly but it felt great to get back to a different kind of workout!
Day 10—09/01: DNW – had a nice day with DH, found a new spot by the water for lunch & a couple of cocktails, it was lovely! I had a salad with grilled shrimp and a couple of chardonnays and felt like it was a good treat without going overboard.
Day 11—09/02: 218.6 – bit of a bump up in weight to be expected after the lunch out yesterday, but overall I’m proud that I got through a holiday weekend and stayed OP 2 of the 3 days. Back to strictness today!

@dawnbgethealthy - I hope that the foot surgery resolves some of your painful issues that you've experienced. How are the knees holding up?
I always love seeing pics of your garden … and the veggies that it produces! My cherry tomatoes have stopped producing in the heat down here.
Where are you headed for vacation? I think I missed something.

I replaced my avatar drawing—the tortoise suits me better for this challenge: slow and steady progress. Very slow.
Yesterday, I did the Central Park Perimeter loop on Zwift (spin bike) after warming up with a dance workout. I haven't been on the bike often enough to improve my speed or power very much. I also prepared my lunches for the workweek. I won't be tempted by the surrounding restaurants and cafes this week.
I had also removed the food delivery app from my phone after someone in my office yoinked my lunch delivery before I could get to it. It had my name on it! I've been bringing my lunch ever since, but it also makes it easier to stay OP thanks to that jerk in the office.

Stay strong Donna.
I know that you eat out often, mostly because of travel. I know that you need to be selective about what you eat for the diabetes, heart etc. I also know that you don't want to take food/snacks with you for the road. I'm sure that somebody on here can suggest a good article on strategy for eating out that won't derail your progress.
We are all different, have different needs and likes.
I know for me that I pretty much eat continuously throughout the day to keep my energy up, but that could be 2 cherries at a time here and there. When traveling (which I will be doing soon) I eat rice cakes and nut butter as my staple, I will be taking several pre-made in little containers for my flights and layovers. But that is just me. I don't like the feeling of being full.
You have been doing great, you will figure out a long-term sustainable way to not let the weekly travel derail your hard work.

Good day yesterday. Saw my older son. Had a dog play date with a neighbourhood dog coming by in the afternoon to play with our dog. 7 day trend weight is still pretty meaningless as my body adjusts to post-vacation/normal life. Having said that, I'm still not feeling 100% with a lingering cold, but I'm determined to do some intentional exercise today. I haven't exercised since last Tuesday.
Pre-vacation weight was 140.5 (I was in the 140.x for 8 straight days before leaving). Goal is to return to pre-vacation weight and continue to consume 1770 calories per day on average to continue with between .5 to .7 pounds loss per week (of course depending on what my body does). Have been home for five days.

I had the same procedure on the top of my feet a year ago in the hospital, and it worked great. Painful because the joint that they are entering with a needle under x-ray does not have room for freezing, only for the anti-inflammatory. It worked great and lasted 3 months, so I should be in great shape for hiking/walking while away.
I was originally going to go to Argentina or Italy for my 65th, but as I sat down and started making my lists of how wanted it to be, I changed my mind.
I am going home to Toronto for 5 days to see my family and friends, and then I have rented a remote cottage on a lake (Kawartha Lakes) for the duration. Travel within Canada is much easier, everything translates: medical, car insurance, driver's license etc.
My plan is to get Zen before my big birthday. The cabin/chalet has paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and an aluminum boat, fireplace, 3 decks and a dock, outdoor firepit. 1 hour from a town.
I am social for a living, and I work way too much just to make ends meet. I am seeking serenity, seclusion and peace for my 65th. I hope to get Zen ☺️ 65 years is a lot to reflect on. I will journal, hike, read books, and just chill, I expect to be out on the water on the actual day of my birthday (and every day). I have only one day that I have planned to leave the cabin for 1/2 of a day, to see a friend about an hour away in a place that I lived for 8 years, Haliburton ON.
I will copy and paste some photos of where I am going to be….
Nice screened in gazebo for the mosquito times of day
There are people in some of these photos. Fireplace and table:
Firepit
I used to have my own canoe when I lived around an hour from this place
Living room leading out to the upper deck
Second and 3rd decks leading down to the dock:
Glorious sunset, and with the nights coming earlier in later September I will be able to stay awake long enough to see them unlike here in summer when it is 10pm lol
This is what is getting me through these final 13 days of working without a day off.

Hi : - )
I am Dawn. I will turn 65 this round. I have changed my eating habits over time. I basically eat half of the amount that I used to, and have limited eating Ribs to once every 3 months instead of once per week.
Week 1 Start Weight: 137.8
Week 1 Goal: 136.8
Week 1 Actual Weight: 140.8 - Exactly a 3 pound gain : - (
Day 08—08/30— 140.2 - I had to "quick add calories" to yesterday's food diary, I added 230. This happens very rarely. After work I had errands to run, and then spent a few hours on yard/garden stuff since I am running short of time before my trip departure. I ate "lunch" at 8pm, so no time or appetite for dinner. I did have a bowl of green beans that I had picked, that was around 10pm. One of these days my bathroom trip will not be an hour after I weigh and I will get a woosh. 2 cups of coffee each morning, no point in weighing after that.
Day 09—08/31— 138.6 - 4 days done of my 13 straight without a day off. Trying to pace myself.
Day 10—09/01— 137.6 - Super busy day at work yesterday. I took lots of food with me to last 8 hours, but didn't get to eat any of it, not even the cherries. 2 jobs today, tomorrow, and the next, so I am packing food each day because I don't have time to go home in between jobs. I am on day 6 of 13 straight as of this morning. My first day off will be the day that I have to go into the hospital for a medical procedure on my feet. No walking or driving for a couple of days, but I expect that I will be able to at least pack. I booked off an extra day, the day before I leave for holidays, so that I can get everything harvested and/or covered before my trip. Whirlwind, but I have to keep going.
Day 11—09/02— 137.6 - I weighed an hour earlier than yesterday, so I feel like I might have dropped 1/2 pound even though it didn't show on the scale. 2 jobs again today and tomorrow.
Day 12—09/03—

@deepwoodslady Thank you for the compliment and encouragement.
Great August results! You'll be in the 170s before you know it.@Lilylady3k re "6 months … half a year! Plenty of time to lose 20-30 pounds if I focus on 5 lbs per month … basically a pound a week. Dedicate the next 24 weeks to breaking through those mental barriers and pushing the holding pattern lower and lower." —> That was very nearly my mindset eight months ago. I hope it works for you. I don't want to be discouraging, but it didn't work for me. It wasn't until I really focused on what I was eating and being more consistent with realistic IN calories that the needle started to move. I got to half of my original goal in seven months. I am still pleased with this progress and 15 pound loss is better than 7 pound gain (which is what happened in 2024).
Re cruising —> Red Ginger was also my favourite and the Sea Bass was sublime. It was so dramatic the way they serve it with the leaf folded up and then release the pick to reveal the Sea Bass. At the end of the trip, my husband and I said we could stay on for another 10 days, but my SIL & BIL said they were ready to go back home. 36 days in the South Pacific sounds wonderful. I'm already looking at next cruises, but we have ordered a new trailer and prefer the flexibility of camping. My husband wants to try renting an RV in another country like New Zealand, Australia or Scotland. We talked with a couple from Chicago who did a 10 day Oceania cruise in the French Polynesian Islands; it sounded like an incredible journey. So many destinations, so little time and money.
@dawnbgethealthy Glad you liked the post. I don't think I am tiny. I think it is the perspective against the other three, who are all taller and larger; ranging from 180 to 280 & 5'10" to 6'2" as compared to my 140ish 5'5".
I don't know how you go all day without eating. When I don't eat, I get really grumpy and unpleasant to be around.
I hope the foot surgery and recovery goes well.
Your trip sounds like peace and serenity. It is exactly why we like camping. There is nothing better than to be in a canoe on a quiet morning listening to the loons. Love the Haliburton pictures. Enjoy your time there.@plantpowered I don't think it is weird how much the colour motivates you. I changed my spreadsheet to incorporate conditional formatting after seeing yours. Like your new avatar (I also liked the old one).
@Jon4189 I just realized that you have changed your goal weight from 189 to 178. You've made such amazing and consistent progress. You are an inspiration!
@Crochetluvr The trip was great, but I also take joy in daily life and daily routines. I stop to smell the flowers. It is these little daily moments that really bring me joy rather than a whirlwind trip.
@bteri107 There are two underground tour companies. One is "Underground Tour". The other is "Beneath the Streets". We did "Beneath the Streets". It was really interesting. There are also YouTube videos on the topic. It is really fascinating and really gives thought to "What on earth were they thinking?".
I hope you are feeling better.******
I think I'm all caught up again. Have a great day everyone!

Hi. I’m an unretired (by choice) senior from central B.C., Canada. Back for another round. Am an absolute turtle at losing and a hare at backsliding! This round my hope it to hang on to each loss then move down from there. Put an end to this eternal yo-yoing.
“You don’t have to throw a pass down the whole length of the field to score a touchdown. You can get there one yard at a time.”

Good Afternoon! Is everybody HAPPY?? 😁
@plantpowered , I love your workouts!
@dawnbgethealthy , what a lovely place! So serene!
Day 08—08/30— 163.4 - Had a light day except for spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and a popsicle for dessert. But sure could have been worse.
Day 09—08/31—163 - I see I didn't have to worry about yesterday. Today so far, I've had pasta salad and 2 slices of a BIG beefsteak tomato. Will have Ramen soup for dinner. Watermelon is on the menu. too. Beautiful day out again today....did a couple errands. My bike needs a small repair which I can handle...will do that a bit later.
Day 10—09/01— 163.4 - supposed to have Cane's chicken for late lunch/early dinner. Haven't had it in awhile. I will be prepared with insulin. Its my meal for the day. Probably have an apple tonight for a snack.
Day 11—09/02— 163.4 - Well, didn't have Cane's....they were closed for the holiday, which was fine. So, ended up with Chinese instead.…no problem. Except the sodium water retention. But that will pass. I had leftover wonton/egg drop soup for lunch....gotta figure out dinner yet. Might be pasta salad....still have some left.
Found out the mice are back. Not much of an issue with me as I keep my apartment pretty clean, but exterminator will be out on Thursday.

And here we go back to normal daily fluctuations. Yesterday was an unusual day. My husband had a minor medical procedure, so pretty sedentary sitting in the hospital for a few hours. I finally did some intentional exercise, but not my normal intensity. We picked up dinner at a local BBQ Smoke place (in our house, this is what we call 'mom is making dinner'). It was delicious and reminds us that we need to support our local shops and restaurants more.

I was due for a lighter exercise day, so I just went for walks during my breaks and at dusk. Food was within range: lots of fiber, lower sodium, lower sugar. It was not as hot last night, so I slept better. Boy, can lack of sleep mess up a day!
@dawnbgethealthy What a beautiful place! You work so hard and deserve a break like that one!

@plantpowered Is this a typo?
Did you mean since May 17, 2025?
Re sleep: So glad you slept well last night. It is during sleep that 'all the magic happens'. I slept so well while we were away. Yesterday I made the mistake of having an after dinner coffee (why?, I don't know, I just felt like it). Boy did I regret that during the night.

OMG that looks like heaven!! We used to do a family vacation at Lake Winnipausaukee in NH every year until we moved further south - too far away now. But I miss the loons!! And it was so peaceful. A perfect place for a birthday, enjoy!!

Hi All,
I'm Jenny, 60 years old, 5’6” and hit my goal weight in Feb.
Day 12—09/03: 217.4 – DH and I walked out of the house meaning to go for a walk this morning and it was so warm we decided to hit the community pool for a workout! It was fantastic! Feeling good about that and the dip in the scale, let’s see if it holds!

Total Lost/Gained this challenge: xxxxx
🔜🔜🔜🔜🔜Ultimate Goal: 145-155 (I’ll know Exactly when I get there!)
Thoughts at the start of this round:
This round will be challenging as it includes the U.S. holidays of Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving. All are big foodie or party and dessert type holidays in the U.S. There are also multiple birthday celebrations in my family. In addition, there will be a lot of travel which is traditional in the fall for me as I try to avoid as many icy driving trips as possible in the winter months. There will be lots of doctor appointments away from home as well as Christmas and gift-giving shopping in this round. I will have to make sure I stay on top of my plan in every moment I can and to make the necessary corrections every time the scale goes up. We can’t control the ingredients in restaurant food so portion control will be key when away from home. I will again aim for a 10 pound loss this round. Thanks for sharing your journey with me and allowing me to share mine. I am grateful for you all.

Day 10—09/01—185.0 ❌ (Trend Weight: 184.6)
Day 11—09/02—187.8 ❌ (Trend Weight: 184.9) Well, today’s weight marks a gain of 6 full pounds in just 48 hours! I didn’t eat THAT MUCH on the holiday. I know some of this is fluid buildup, some of it is justified. This is just how I sometimes roll.. Tomorrow is a travel day so I don’t expect it will level off too soon, but I will make today a good day so I go into the travel day on better footing. I’m going to try to stay positive at the start of this new month and hope that “easy come, easy go” will be my mantra this month. I will not accept that it is all easy come! I don’t know how much progress I can make this week since I’ve already gained 6 pounds in the last two days, but I am going to look a little longer-term right now at the month of September instead of just the week. I have 28 days left in the month to make a dent, my friends! Today, I’m denting.
🐝🐝🐝🐝 Day 12—09/03— 185.2 ✅ (Trend Weight: 184.9) Traveling today. I dread the lack of exercise/movement and what the scale will read tomorrow after restaurant food. I can’t control the exact ingredients so I’ll try to focus and exercise control of the portions. It feels like I’ll probably be playing catch up the entire month of September after the past few days of huge increases! Uphill battles but I don’t tire easily!

@dawnbgethealthy Your vacations destination looks like a little slice of Heaven.

At 5'5" you must be pretty close to your goal. It was an old thing, but something along the lines of 5 pounds for every inch added to 100. So, if that is a gauge, then is 125 your goal?
I realize that it is harder when you have less to lose.
6 -
You can definitely lose 5 pounds per month. Cheering you on over here. French Polynesia sounds like a wonderful dream.
