It's my only vice left, thank heavens! Wine, yes! essence of the god's, and I only drink reds. Red Bordeaux, Argentinian Malbecs, Spanish Tempranillo and Italian deliciousness. Some Californians aren't bad either, but I don't like Cabernets, I stay away from whites mostly, but I've found a nice white I can cook with that's got a flavor that enhances the food and doesn't over power it, and once in a while I'll have a glass.
And since I'm sensitive to wheat and sprouted grains, Potato vodka from Poland. I even entered it as a food here. It's only 75 calories for 1.5 ounces, I only drink at the end of my day when I'm done with everything that having a full time job, being a wife and mom, cook, housekeeper, and all the stuff that goes with it will allow.
So, yes, yes, yes, I drink it! Everything else is illegal.

No I don't drink. I don't like the taste or smell. This I imagine comes from me being such a picky eater which I am glad of for that. The desire or want to try it has never been there. My friends respect my decision and never pressure me into or make me feel bad for not drinking. Plus I am sure they see it as a bonus for them cause I am always the DD. It doesn't bother me one bit not to be part of the crowd, to each their own.0

It's simple..I have no social life now. lol. Seriously though I just cannot drink the way I used to, it makes me drowsy and nauseous. I sitll do drink from time to time. Far less than 'socially' -- more like once every 4 months or so.0

I do drink, but definately not as much as I did when I wasn't trying to lose weight. I look at it this way- if you can "afford" it in your calorie budget, go for it, because the reality is that the only way weight loss works is if you can make permanent changes. Some days the alcohol is worth it, sometimes not.0

I drink, prob more than I ought to, but I don't drunk snack and I almost always dance, so I calculate that I pretty much always increase my deficit from drinking. Prob 3-4 drinks once or twice a week. If I go out more than that, I usually do it sober or just a drink. I like going out!0

Yes I do, I like it all. But lately beer makes me bloated so I can only drink one. I love wine but I try to avoid for now until I reach my goal.0

I do, on social occasions.
I try to drink less often than I used to though - I never really drank much to begin with but still prefer to cut down, it's not so much the empty calories but rather that my performance at the gym really suffers the next time I go and since I've got serious about lifting I don't really want anything that's going to hinder what I can do, progress is slow enough as it is!0 -
Not as much as I used to, and I do miss it. I had 2 beers this weekend and they were so delicious.
But between trying to get pregnant and getting my acid reflux under control it seemed best to cut it out.0 -
I do like a brandy & coke but don't drink anything else. I have a single at weekend but don't drink through week.
As I've cut carbs I found I have loads of extra calories left and find it hard to get to over 1200 without adding chocolate or something to the day.0 -

I used to drink 8 pints of cider with blackcurrent, EVERY DAY. That's 2000 cals in drink alone. This was when I was 17/18. Due to a huge number of reasons (my weight being one, the fact that I got so drunk once that I shaved off my waist length hair, etc, etc) I stopped drinking at the age of 18 (started when I was 11.). I still go out clubbing regularly (I'm 23 now) and to start with my "friends" would try and pressure me into drinking, including threatening to spike my drinks. Eventually, they tired of it, realising that this was a lifelong decision and now no bothers me about drinking (although sometimes, I'll order a beer for a friend and people are like "OH MY GOD DON'T DO IT!!!"). I'm always the first one up dancing, so I definitely don't need it for confidence reasons, and actually being out sober when everyone else is getting tanked makes you realise how completely inane it is. Drinking poison to the point where you stumble about and repeat yourself a million times is not cool. Anyone who feels "uncomfortable" that you are not drinking when they are is not a good friend. A good friend should be comfortable with you whatever you are doing. You wouldn't pretend to do a line of coke if everyone else was and they felt "uncomfortable" that you weren't would you?! Alcohol is just another (albiet legal) drug and I think it's a shame that those of us who choose not to poison ourselves get stigmatised for it, no matter what our reasons are for not doing it.0

I think that if you want to avoid the "spoil sport" issue and not make a deal out of it, order your drink at the bar and get a club soda or a diet coke and ask for them to put it in the same glass as they would serve a mixed drink. I've done this on a number of occasions when I just didn't feel like drinking or didn't want the calories.
I think when one person in the group isn't drinking it can make the other people feel uncomfortable or judged and that's why they pressure. Faking it alleviates the pressure.

i'm sorry but if your friends are giving you a hard time about not drinking then you really need new friends.
it is so so so easy to say 'make new friends'. the reality is life isn't like that, and i am not making excuses, but personally i find friendships are hard to find and even harder to maintain. no one is perfect.0 -
yes, unfortunately, a little more than what I would like. I will have about 4-5 drinks per week. Could be a couple of glasses of wine or vodka tonic. I am trying really hard to cut back but my group of friends all drink and so does my husband. How can I cut back and still enjoy my friends company all the time?0

I drink. A lot. My motivation? It's fun, I enjoy going to pubs, and to be honest, usually results in getting me laid. I'm single and young.....? Don't judge me.0

Yes, not nearly as much as I did when I was big, but I still enjoy embibing. I like top shelp and craft beers0

I see most everyone is saying no, so I thought I would chime in and say yes. I actually find that a glass of wine at night helps me eat less. I drink it slowly and it "keeps my mouth otherwise occupied." I prefer red wine, but sometimes drink white. The calories in wine a glass of wine are between 100-160 depending on the type and size. A little bit of alcohol is not necessarily bad for your health. In fact, a little can be good. The key is moderation, as with anything.
If it's a trigger for you and you know or suspect you will overindulge, than I would say no.0 -

I have always loved to drive, so I dont drink and drive....but if I am somewhere were I know I can stay...I will have a few beers (Victorias) or wine (Moscato)....but this doesnt happen very often...and I wasn't a fan of beer until I had my first Victoria0

making new friends is certainly hard. the older you get the harder it gets. i make it a point to surround myself with people who lift me up not bring me down. i would never be friends with people who made me feel guilty, pressured or bad about the healthy decisions i am making for myself. i would at the very least speak with them about the changes i am trying to make in my life. certainly your friends wouldn't pressure you if they knew the place you were coming from.0 -

drinking and driving is bad bad bad! excellent choice to make. i haven't owned a car in a decade. i love being a non-driver!0 -
I actually like the taste of beer and wine and more. But I dont like how I feel after I drink, even after just 1 drink. So I dont drink. Havent in years. Never will drink and drive. :noway:0

Yup, because I'm 21. Other than that its' fun, my group of friends do a lot, and I want to get it all out before I have kids. Some may think these are lame reasons but they are good for me
I only drink of Friday's and Saturday's now, I use to every other day, then stop for a couple of weeks, and start again.
My favorite liquor is tequila ((obviously)) lol. I started using these zero calorie margarita mixers that are Amazzzzinggg!
Another way to cut calories is to drink light beers, wines, and use diet soda's as mixers. When I take shots I use water to chase it with.
Another reason would be the flavor. Beer and wines can pair great with bbq, wings, cheeses, ect. I really do enjoy the flavor with a light buzz if I'm not trying to get drunk. Once again, Friday and Saturday nights only.0 -
I drink but I have cut down a lot (from 6-7 days a week to 1-3). I just like alcohol.0

Yes, mostly beer. Good beer. The kind that is generally a bit higher in carbs and calories. Maybe once a week and generally related to sports. If I know I'm going to drink more than normal (tailgating) I go with Guinness. Don't laugh, it's low in alcohol and about the same in calories and carbs than crap Bud. Bourbon and scotch on the rocks, too. Mixers don't mix well for calories. Plus, why hide the taste of a good bourbon.0

I'm not a routine drinker. If I'm celebrating something or out with friends I may have a couple, but I don't keep it in my house.0

Just wondering, as I am considering going tee-total for a number of reasons, mostly health/diet related. (I'm not an alcoholic) So do you drink? What are your motivating factors for drinking/not drinking?

Let's see, alcohol contains 7-calories per gram. Depending on what alcohol you drink. You can still manage to keep it within your daily calorie consumption for the day. Low calorie alcohol are obviously the Lights. And liquor like whiskeys, rum, tequila, vodka. Tend to have calories between 60-80 calories per shot(1.5oz) of a 40 proof bottle. If I do go drink it's usually just any vodka shot with diet soda. And you still manage to only consume under 80 calories per serving.0 -
I love Guinness. Occasionally I'll have a drink, but that's like once a month, if not less. It is difficult to justify the calories in my head, but I figure as long as I'm not at it all the time, I'm alright.0

I do socially when I'm out with friends....haven't had anything in at least 3 months. I'm a pretty light drinker and can get tipsy from 1-2 drinks. But since I've been watching calories it will be a rare occasion from now on.0
