Might help someone to better understand the differences. One has more muscle, or better conditioned muscle then the other photo. Note the 10 pounds weight difference, yet the heavier weight is "smaller" and tighter.

(edited to add,- sorry to confuse everyone - this is not me in this photo)

That is inspiring! I love how you look toned and went up in weight! Just goes to show that you can't always go by the scale! (hope more people will realize that too from this! :)

sorry to confuse! This in not me. :)

I grabbed it online at pinterest.com

......................... But I do look hot - thanks - LOL

I will add though, personally, I am 10 lbs scale heavier now, then I was before at this same smaller "clothing size" I am now (8/10). So my experience is like those of the girl in the photo.

But I have better tightness, definition etc, (then I did in the past in the skinny fat place)

Excellent. Great work, and thank you for posting this. A perfect example of an important concept. Great illustration of why BMI is not accurate for active people.

Edit: haha, just saw this isn't you. Well, it's still a great post!

I remember a similar pic on the wall of my high school weight room. Love how clearly it illustrates the difference. Thank you for sharing.

Nice! This is pretty much why I pay very little attention to my scale.

    Along the same lines: http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero

There are pictures where Staci goes goes from 117lbs to 131lbs to 142lbs but stays pretty much the same size, while looking a lot stronger and more fit.

wow! Awesome job! I struggled with the number on the scale for awhile since I started weight training. I've now given up on the scale because I went up a few pounds. Great example of how the number on the scale isn't the only thing that matters! Thanks for posting!!

Okay, I just realized this isn't you but either way, thanks for posting! :)

yep Staceys example is one I show people often.

I also like this info article. Its about Crossfit - but has some skinny fat vs fit photos, though not of the same girl. And explains what it is, how to address it etc,

    Good general read.

And Leigh Peeles Body Fat percentage images, are eye opening as well. No skinny fat, but gives you perspective on how different body fat can look - no matter what the scale weight. (which is not the best thing to judge your loss by, just one tool)

Huh just realized that I'm kinda skinny fat :/ (though I'm still regular fat too I think).

Thanks for this, guess I better get working on toning up as well as slimming down!
