:glasses: So many new people, I can't keep up!!
    Hello the new people.
Some happy news and some sad news. So sorry about the baby, very sad when
    someone loses a child.

I visited my older daughter in Toronto on Saturday and stayed overnight.
We started out in her neighborhood shopping and then went for lunch.
After that we caught a street car and headed downtown to the Mall.
It was decorated to the nines. So beautiful.
I helped my daughter do her Christmas shopping and carried her bags. It was so warm
in the stores since it was 59 degrees this weekend. So mild. Still no snow.
We shopped until 5:00 pm then decided to get a bottle of wine, popcorn and watch a DVD
when we got back. We ordered some Sushi for dinner and then relaxed in front of the TV.
I also found out the next day my other daughter was there too shopping with her girlfriend at
the same time. That shows yhou how many people were there, we never saw her at all.
The next morning my younger daughter joined us for brunch and a visit.
So it was a productive and happy weekend for me.
My DH decorated the outside and put up the tree while I was gone so I am ready to finish up
    decorating the inside.

    Shirley,
I would die of shock if my husband put the tree up and did the decorating. Wow so special that your DH did that.

It was a great day at school today. It's days like this that I know why I decided to go into teaching!

I need to go and put the decorations on the tree now. I think some Christmas Music in the back ground would help bring the spirit.
    Have a good day EVERYONE.

I just finished eating dinner and I feel full!

Wow oh Wow. Just look at all the new members we are getting. Loved it. Gonna have to get me a note book and takes note So I can get to know each and every one of you. But for now a great big welcome. I was especially impress with J Judy and her knowledge of carbs. Being a diabetic for over 20 years I have never had My Sugar under control Untill lately when I started watching my carb more closely. I think the medical world is way behind on informing us how to lived with diabetes. And her adorable poodles

I had my first day on the South beach diet and it went fairly good. I am going to make me some sugar free jello today and add some non- fat greek yogurt Breakfast was 2 Scramble eggs and 1/2 c of can dice tomatoes Havent thought much about lunch yet I did boiled me some eggs yesterday to have to snack on.

It is rather cold here this morning. They had snow about 75 miles west of us this mornng..We just had rain for it never did get below frezzing here.
Going to close for now before I lose this pot Done lost one.

Marie [ caliecat] from near Dallas. TX.

Phoebe the cowboys lost. But the packers did pulled theres off. Connie did I get the right team.?

Happy Monday!! Chilly day here, good day to do my cards (still haven't done them) and do some online shopping, My hubby has a foot doctor appointment this afternoon and hopefully she will tell him he can drive. I am so spoiled by him doing all the grocery shopping and running errands that I can't wait for him to get back into his routine. Tomorrow we both have tests, he has an ultrasound of his aorta and I have a MRI of my back. His is because he has a tiny hole below his aorta that his heart doctor is aware of but our GP just wants to check it again. Mine is for the sciatica to help figure out why I have had this for over a year and hopefully get some relief. It feels like we live in doctor's offices lately.

Gayla, your trip sounds amazing, so glad you got some down time. Was it an all inclusive trip? I can't wait for our trip to Club Med in Florida in March, ours is an all inclusive. Glad your foot is healing and Neil is better now that he knows you are in his vicinity.

Judy, Buzz has the perfect graphic to welcome you, we are happy to have you join our group. There is nothing worse than a bad back and I give you so much credit for doing all the exercise you do. Your dogs would do great with Barbies, she also has standard poodles. My hubby and I have a a two Old English Sheepdog named Daisy Mae who will forever be a puppy and a spoiled brat.

Diane, I am so sorry but are you new to our group? If so welcome and if I missed your entrance at an earlier time I apologize.
We have several Canadians in our group and we also have some from the other side of the pond and even Egypt. We are a very diverse group.

Buzz, I hope you have "ONE BIG" suitcase. Try rolling your clothes instead of laying them flat they are supposed to get less wrinkled and give you more room. I don't do that myself but my DDIL does. I know you will have a wonderful time and yes I am jealous.

Barbie, I love artichokes and brown rice, just not to sure about those black eye peas except for the group, they are one of my favorite. My DIL had an argument with her sister because her sister wanted to have Christmas Eve this year and it got so ugly and then Phil stepped in and got into another heated argument with his brother in law, so now Phil and Cheryl want nothing to do with her sister. Now Phil and Cheryl think they will go on vacation with Marisa for Christmas instead of spending time with her family. :noway: They asked us yesterday if we would mind if they weren't home for Christmas and really we don't, we can celebrate when they come back, after all we are there EVERY Sunday.

Jeri, I agree that Barbie's post made me realize a little a day is better than nothing at all, I think we just all thought she was superwoman and now understand how she worked her way up to the long walks she takes with her babies. I feel so much better when I exercise so we are on the same page. Your snow people and your house look great!!

Connie, I love hummus also, I eat mine on triscuit crackers since they are low in calories and I can have 7 of them. I also eat laughing cow cheese on them with yogurt as dessert for lunch almost daily. :drinker: Your profile picture has you beaming so you must be really happy for your son and his wife.

Phoebe, once I find out about my back I will think about my knees. Those kitties are missing you so I am glad you are going home soon. Does DH sing well?

Phyllis, I hope your headache is gone this morning (at least it is morning here, I don't know your time zone). Your Christmas trip sounds wonderful especially with being with your daughter. Does anyone every decorate for Christmas in Egypt?

Momtozmc, welcome back but because I am old I have forgotten your name. Since they took off our signatures we have learned to sign our names since we like to place a name with the profile. Since you signed L, is that how we should address you?

Jackie #2, I did put a fit bit on my Amazon wish list, but not sure anyone will see it. Are you saying you lost another 6 pounds last week or did I read that wrong?

Gosh, there were a lot of posts since my last post, I hope I have caught up with everyone. Now it is time to ride the bike and keep with my committment.

    Have a great day.

As I was posting Marie, Shirley and Phyllis sneaked on and did a post.

Marie, sorry about your Cowboys but our Bears have fallen apart so my hubby now wants Green Bay to go all the way. Yeah Connie!! Judy does seem to know a lot about diabetes, you should check out her topic for diabetes. Sugar free jello is my favorite healthy dessert topped with some lite whipped cream Yum.

Phyllis, you have answered my question about decorating for Christmas.

Shirley, your weekend sounds like it was perfect except for the sushi. :blushing: I agree you must have a wonderful hubby, my husband would leave the house dark for the holidays if I didn't do it. :noway:

    Going downstairs now.

Attention to all the Senior Golden Sneakers.

My Fitness Pal has a new feature that may help us keep in touch with each other, find each other after an absence, and keep our topics and thoughts a little more organized. It is called Groups.

When you click on the Community tab, you will see Message Boards (where we are now), Groups, Blogs, Find Members, Invite Friends. We can set up a group called Senior Golden Sneakers. Within that group we can have separate threads on topics such as Heart Rate Monitors, Exercise, Low Carb Diets, Weight Watchers, Diabetes, Dealing with illness, 55+ and Still working, Retirement, and so forth. Anyone can start a new topic.

We will not have to start a "part two" if there are too many postings in one month. We do not have to start a new topic every month. We will be easier to find and it will be easier to retrieve information from earlier posts.

If at least three of you think this is a good idea, I will set up the group. Then, as we get going, anyone can join us. It will make us more visible to people in our age group. The more people we can reach with our message of good health, the better.

    Let me know.

    Connie
  • Hello Ladies, been a while! Trying to keep on track, slipped up a bit but maybe by tomorrow the road will stop curving so much. Found that taking supplements worked to keep my energy up and appetite under control. Stopped taking them and all food was game again. So I'm back to taking them again.

Illness going around the job sites like wild fire, my body feels old from all the work it is doing to keep healthy, my strength is not good. Picked up some medicine to take at night to give my body some help.

Hope all is well here, miss having some time to connect with you all, however you are in my thoughts always.

    Take care,

    Marilyn
  • P.S. I will be working throughout the Christmas weeks and New Year week, so I'll quickly say HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND BLESSED NEW YEARS to all.

    Good afternoon Seniors

It is cold here in Frenchtown, Mt. We went out this morning and met with friends for a quick coffee and chit chat. Then we went to see our son at his home and found out my grandson was home sick and my son was sick too. They have colds.

Then we stopped by a casino by his house and my husband won a little, I lost my $5.00.

Stopped at Subway and got a buy one foot long and get a foot long free, you know me I am very frugal, so we got 2 sandwichs for $5.00. We had one for lunch and Dh will have one for dinner as I am going to my quilt guild and its pot luck tonight. We are donating and making quilts for soldiers tonight.

I finished my large quilt and I do not want anyone else to ask me to make one. I want to make one for us.

Well folks, I must close and get some things done before I leave. Bye Bye

    Chris

PS, I am going to make a plan for meals now, need to eat less and eat right.

Read all today's posts and want to comment on every one , but :noway:

    [img][/img]2658746bdhbq22d8h.gif

I think it's the planning, packing, getting DH's stuff washed and ready, and washed again, and cleaning the blasted house and not getting proper sleep or meals ..................and who said vacations were a great thing to do, anyway? I'm out of whack just preparing, but then, all those days just relaxing! I guess it's worth it! ( Did I mention I need a mother...or a wife?)

Connie, would your thread/GROUP be an addition to...or instead of... or neither? I'm getting a bit slow here. so let's discuss it further. Sounds intriguing but would it mean we'd all be on different planets, and miss seeing one another? Change is getting more intimidating for me...and I never thought I'd hear myself saying that! There might be one thread for dealing with aging, or with aging DHs :ohwell:

We could have both for a while and then you can all decide what you prefer. The reason I thought of it is this: I remember someone talking about a kind of exercise they were doing - this was last spring some time. Well, I had to read through months of posts to find what I was looking for and never did find it. Someone else posted this week that they had forgotten how to post pictures. The instructions have been given at a minimum of six or seven times in the past two years but it's almost impossible to find them.

If we were in this group - there could be a Posting Pictures thread - one place to look for what you need; and maybe a Technology thread with simple computer tips (that have also been posted many times but are not difficult to find.)

As far as being on different planets - sometimes that might be the case. If someone has an ongoing issue with their knees, I'm not really all that interested in reading about it as I have no joint problems. On the other hand, other's may not be interested in reading about my pets.

The obvious things would be to have a "Chit Chat" thread for everyday chatter, a birthday thread, a recipe thread (pretty hard to find our Senior Golden Sneakers recipes now.). I think it would make things much easier for everyone.

Makes sense, Connie. I'm one of those who can never re-find information I thought I'd recall! Do consider one for "keeping in touch" though!

The best thing about starting a group is that you can have many discussions/threads within the group. So members can click on the group, see all of the discussions, and see the latest post in each discussion/thread. I started a group for diabetics recently. People find it and if they don't see the topic they're looking for, they just start a new discussion.

I like the idea, especially the chit chat. Having separate threads for different subjects would be great and they would all be under senior golden sneakers. We wouldn't have to change it every month so it would be easier to find and follow. It gets my vote.

Well I don't really like changes But who knows It may be just the thing. If Sandy goes for it count me in too. Lets go for it. We would have a place for our birthdays and recipes If so that would be great.

 I am comfortable with things the way they are, but then, I've been posting on this thread since February 2009 and have enjoyed every minute of it. If Connie starts a group, I'll join because you are all part of my family and I need to hear from you often.

 Gayla, it sounds like you are going to the Grand Prix Figure Skating Finals:bigsmile:    I've been watching all the skating in the other Grand Prix events......the best thing about having to sign up for cable TV instead of satellite is that the cable system has Canadian TV stations that show a lot of figure skating.

 Judy, my poodles are both female. The black one is Brandy, age 6. We got her as a puppy. The red one is Sasha, age 4. We weren't going to get a second dog, but the breeder called us and asked us to take her because she'd had her leg broken in a run in with her larger litter mates and she needed a safe home and they knew we'd take good care of her. She has thrived with us and runs and plays as though there were never any problems with her leg. They sleep with us and sit on the couch with us. I used to take them to the dog park every day until we moved into this great neighborhood with all the great places to walk.

:flowerforyou: Sandy, I hope you and Babe get good news from the doctor. It's time for both of you to have good health again.

:flowerforyou: Buzz, I agree with you about all the work it takes to get ready for a vacation, but once you're there, you'll forget all the pain and suffering it took to get there.

 Shirley, you are so fortunate to have a husband that will put up the tree, and he is fortunate to have a wife who will let him do and not complain that he did it wrong.

Well I've been away far too long but as it's summer here, the weather is just too nice to be inside on the computer... that's no excuse for not popping in to say hello though so I will try and be better...

.We have been camping in my son's caravan at the beach and it is just heavenly although I have been a bit nervous about tsunami's as we have been having a few earthquakes - it's 4 years since our big one and over a year since Christchurch had their heartbreaking one.....we have just been notifed that our house insurance will double next month but we can't really afford to be without it .

There are so many new ones on here that I can't keep up but welcome to you all.

Jake has gone home for the holidays - school starts again on the 1st February so a well deserved break for him. I miss him but in a nice way as it has made cooking meals a bit easier although I still have a very fussy hubby to try and please :grumble:

Dinner time for me so will catch up with you all later.

I also am happy with the way things are on here.

Hi everyone. We had a busy day today, both Neil and Dave to the ENT Dr. Neil's left vocal chord is still completely paralyzed and his Dr. was very impressed with his compensation. He said he has never seen anyone compensate that well for clear speech and swallowing. He also said that it will not recover after this length of time (over a year) but because he does so well nothing else needs to be done. He told Neil that he was his "star". Neil's speech therapist was also there which was great. Much of his recovery has been due to her kind, patient approach with him.
Tomorrow Dave and I both have Dr. appointments. Dave has a very sore shoulder and my foot needs to be looked at and likely X-rayed. It is still quite swollen. My dil gave me some 'bunion' slippers for my birthday but I can't get that foot into them yet. They are quite interesting with fabric between each toe. They are supposed to bring your toes more into alignment, worth a try anyway. I really don't want anymore bones to break!

Sandy -- Yes, we did the all-inclusive which was very relaxing, no decisions to make. Well, a few such as should I have a Marguerita or a Pina Colada? You will have a wonderful time at Club Med. I was just in to see the Travel Agent today and asked her to email me if she sees any good deals for January. I doubt it will happen as it is a much busier time to go South.

Buzz -- Ok, take a big breath. Sit back and enjoy your coffee. If you forget something it isn't the end of the world. You will look gorgeous no matter what! However, your suggestion about having a wife is really a very good one!

Marie -- As long as I can find you it doesn't really matter to me. I can see some advantages to the group especially being able to track down information more easily.

Barbie -- Yes, indeed I will be at the Grand Prix. I don't remember where we are sitting but if the camera comes my way I will give you a wave.

Nearly time for bed. Not sure why I made 9 am appointments tomorrow. Take care and keep smiling. Gayla

Just off for a swim but wanted to post that the group idea sounds a good one to me. From a selfish point of view I don't always find the time to read through all the posts so like the idea of having more subject choice so that I can potter from one to the other as the mood takes me. Of course I will follow you all wherever you go!!
Right, off out into the cold and wet to brace myself for a dip in the pool. Hopefully the water will be warm but then it should be, it's indoors!!

    thicken..

I am still following my plan.on eating. Of course it only been 3 days. Ha Ha!.

Becky. I am not sure what this group stuff is all about. But I sure would hate to see our group spilt up.. But I guess we need to go with the times. I am waiting for further instructions on it. This site is really growing.

Hi Phoebe. This group sounds like a lot like Lighten up. It had dfference threads to go to. I lost their address again But as I remember it had a chic chat, Chalenge group which we were in . recipes , I don't remember what else. Maybe the more I hear about it I may like it. For we do dearly love to chat. I still like to go to their recipes When I had their address. .Nobody posting there but all the threads was still all there.......... I will drop in on some of the groups here to see what it is all about. It may be just the thing.
    luv 'ya guys

Its been very mild weather here. It has been raining since Sunday.
I know we will get snow someday. Its Canada, eh !
My bones are aching this morning with all this wet and damp weather.

I am still wrapping gifts, a little each night to get it done. :ohwell:
My youngest daughter is coming on Friday before catching her plane to
New York City with her girlfriend for the weekend. She is staying most of the
day so I am going to put her to work and help me decorate the house.

Next week I will be babysitting my SIL's dog (black Lab) with health issues.
She is a sweety but needy and all the hair.

I agree it is a little confusing right now Marie but we are smart seniors and we will get it. I just am not sure where to post about personal stuff and where to vent about things that bother me. And what about when we do talk about our health issues or others in our families, I guess we need lots of different topics in our group.

Can't we keep them seperated because a group can only be found on our profile? And don't we have to join it? Where as a thread anyone can respond in and find easily. Yep, this is getting confusing. I would imagine that we can feel better about posting personal things in a group where not anyone can view it.
