    I eat between 1200 - 1500 per day but I try and burn about 1500 - 2000 per day

    So your net calories are negative? You may want to speak to a professional about this. This is equivalent to not eating. Aka eating disorder. :(

    I was assuming that was a typo, if they meant it, it's not sustainable.

    It makes me sad to see how many people on here net very few calories every day either because they're not eating or they are exercising themselves to death. Just eat. Food is not the enemy. You can lose weight without killing yourself.

    I eat 1800-2000 net. I am maintaining, but not intentionally. I'd like to lose more weight, but I'm going to wait and see if I start losing again after I've eliminated a few stressful things from my life. If I don't start losing after the grant/paper are done and after I start getting 8 hours of sleep a night, then I'll cut calories to 1600 to 1800 and see what happens.

    I try to net about 1700. I'm a nursing mother, and 500ish goes to milk production, so I guess a net of 1200 is more accurate.

    You do not have to starve yourself to be happy and beautiful people :(

    I eat about 1500 net, and am still losing. Bumping it up more to save my muscle mass as much as I can :]

    That accounts for my activity and exercises. Considering what I was consuming, this feels like starvation - lol

    I was such a fat pig and ate like one as well.

    Instead of calorie intake,I would focus on deficit. If you're trying to lose a pound a week then make sure you have a 500 calorie deficit. So how much you eat should depend on how much you exercise, but around 1500-1600 seems reasonable to me, and eat exercise calories back.

    I eat about 1700-1900 on days I exercise. 1300-1400 on days I do not exercise. 5'3" 125 lbs.

    This is very bad! but since I've been working I only eat about 600-700 cals a day... I should be eating around 1300

    Your body is going to think you are starving and you will lose muscle mass. Drink protein shakes to keep your calories at 1300.

    My net is usually around 1750-1900. I eat a total of about 1900-2300 calories per day, depending on exercise. Except this week, I'm trying to take a break from exercise and eat at maintenance. Maintenance for me, without exercise, is 2200-2400 calories per day, depending on activity level.

    BUT when your maintenance is 1700-1800 a day and you are TRYING to lose weight, they tell you have to eat 500 cals less a day, so for me that would in the 1200 range.. correct....

    1200 net yes. My maintence is around 1700. Then you IMO you should try for a 250-300 calore deficit since you are already close to goal weigh (assuming if not well it is different :D)

    But she was talking more to the people eating 500-1000 a day

    June through September, I ate around 500 calories per day. Now I'm eating 800 or so, but I usually end up closer to 1,000, because I have less self-control these days. I don't really exercise much these days, but I work fast food 5 days per week (however much that burns).

    anybody that was on my friends list that only eat 500 calories a day would be chopped from the friends list. Having a calorie intake that low is stupid and dangerous!

    Yes, but that is 1200 NET calories per day. And I definitely was speaking to those eating a total of under 1,000 calories per day.

    Thanks, sunshine. :D And yes, if you are close to goal weight, I would try for a smaller deficit.
