I have had that before and was told it is imflamation in the cartalidge of the rib cage - for me it was a sharp pain so if that is what you are feeling and the doctor checked you out that is probably what it is. It is called Costochondritis - here is more info:
Costochondritis is inflammation of the junctions where the upper ribs join with the cartilage that holds them to the breastbone or sternum. The condition causes localized chest wall pain and tenderness that you can reproduce by pushing on the involved cartilage in the front of the rib cage. Costochondritis is a relatively harmless condition and usually goes away without treatment. The cause is usually unknown. Costochondritis affects females more often than males (70% versus 30%).0 -
Could be costochondritis (inflammation around the breast bone). My wife has that and has the same scary symptoms. Prescription strength anti-inflammatories should help.
However, your doc should at least put you on a treadmill ecg stress test to make certain it's nothing wrong with your heart. If they're not doing that, I'd say find another doc... or demand the test.0 -
Stop eating these before you work out, and ask your doctor. Chest pain is not something to ignore. Also I would never trust opinions of strangers on the internet, when it comes to serious medical issues .0

I'll eat that if you won't...0 -
Agree its not a heart attack. Symptoms for that are way different.
I had pleurisy in the past and symptoms for that were exhaustion and a lot of pain when coughing (constant).
Really depends what the doc said when the OP saw them. None of us know for sure as we dont have the OP in front of us and we're (least I'm not!) not doctors.

Definitely. When I was having my chest pain symptoms that turned out to be costocondritis they put me through the works with the cardiologist just in case. I'd request a work up if they don't offer.0 -
My first thought was "see a Dr.!!", but I see you did.:) You could get a second opinion, but my first thought was also costocondritis. I've had it, and never took steroids or anything. I told my Chiropractor about it, and he adjusted me and I have never had the pain again. That was about 6 or 7 years ago. You can always try that and just see!!0

i did! i did!
Same issues, doc did echo cardiogram, etc and ruled out any cardiac issues. They thought it was gall bladder related, lots of expensive imaging tests later, nothing there. Gastroenterologist said it was atypical presentation of acid reflux and gave me meds, it helped, but i had also stopped exercising while trying to sort this all out. (this was all last spring)
It has come back a little bit here and there now that i am working out heavily. The doctor said it is inflammation in my muscles, even though thats what it doesnt feel like .0 -
It sounds to me like you may have angina. I am a cardiac nurse and a lot of angina patients only get the pain with activity. I would either push more with your doctor or see another one...or ask for a cardiac workup. If it is angina, it is easily helped via medication. But the other posters said it well- chest pain is never "normal" and should not be taken lightly.0

I checked on MayoClinic symptoms checker - Costochondritis - those are exactly the symptoms I have. I am going back to the doctor next week. Thanks for all the advise much appreciated!0

+1 to this.Go check with another doctor. There are sooooo many things that can cause chest pain, and its not useful asking the internet what it might be when there are trained professionals who can explain it. Put your mind at rest by seeing a real doctor, and not listening to anything anyone says here.0

could be a number of things..how was your blood pressure?? and perhaps it couldve been a pulled muscle or youre lungs not used to all that huffing and puffing .. or gas from the food you eat .. hopefully its one of the latter. i had that problem in beginning of december..thought i was going to keel right over . however all my tests came out clear as a bell thankfully. mustve been stress at the time because its all gone now0

My mom had the same type symptoms everytime she went walking or went to the gym. Hers progressively got worse to where she could only go on the treadmil 5 mins before the pain started. Her and her doctor thought it was heartburn. After about 6 months she was at her cardiologists for a routine stress test and they ended up doing bypass the next day. The point is see a specialist!0
