MFP and McDonald's??

I can see how some may find it offensive or hypocritical to see an ad from Mcdonalds, but it is a necessity unless you would rather be charged a fee. As stated many times already, advertising pays for the site and helps keep it free for us. If it bothers you that much, look into an Ad-blocker for your browser. There are plenty I recommend ad-block plus. I personally have an ad-blocker installed on all of my browsers.0

There is healthy oatmeal.....y'know?0
-
That's because there was a post about McDonalds a little while ago. I notice when people are talking about something it often appears in the adds. Big Brother is watching.0
-
I don't get any ads on my page due to Ad Blocker Pro. Look into it if you are easily tempted.0

I know they need to sell ad space, but I just think that is really poor taste. That's like the American Lung Association selling ad space to Marlboro.......
AGREED! And I love it when they have the weight loss surgery ads, diet pills etc... And I have never inquired about either so why would I see those?
Because you're on a website where many people are focused on weight loss, & Google knows that. The ads are completely tailored to your Internet activity (which doesn't mean they get it right 100% of the time!).0 -
Who cares!!!!! Its advertising space being payed by an advertiser. Feel free to pay for the space if you don't want anyone else to!!! Plus fast food places don't make people fat....people make themselves fat!!!! I see Ronald McDonald holding a gun to your head and says eat the hamburger or else. Some people like to put the blame on others....but really....blame yourself for eating that way!!!!0

One can't complain about ANY ads on MFP, since they clearly stated in the Terms of Use that MFP is not responsible for Third party advice, etc:

MFP is great, and I just IGNORE the ads. At least up until now :-)0 -
oh, it doesn't tempt me.:o) McDonald's is the last place I would want to go. I am doing away with all processed stuff and don't want to eat all the GMO's that are in foods, just thought it was bad taste for it to be on a fitness site.
I didn't realize the ads were from google, so glad to learn that. The ads I see are for stuff I haven't searched for...although I don't really search for much so maybe that's why? Right now it's an ad for lumosity, which I have never searched for or been on...
its not only stuff you search for, like i never search for make up but i have commented on a thread about make up,and now i get make up ads. It will go off the threads you read as well0 -

Love the side salad with a piece of grilled chicken, apple dippers no carmel and a nice glass of ice water. Hmm I can have a healthy meal at McDonalds and not feel bad about my choices. It is about what we choose to do not what they choose to show us. :happy:0 -
I saw an advert on here for thorntons chocolates and it had a big photo of a really amazing looking chocolate. It made my mouth water so bad.0

MFP doesn't control the advertising. The ads are hosted by google, and they advertise based on things you comment on and search for on the internet. So if you post "Mcdonalds sucks," the ad software just reads McDonalds and decides to give you an ad on that. That's why at one point I was getting a lot of HCG related ads, because I posted a lot about how HCG sucks.
^^^ this ^^^
Mine is presently showing ads for a department store I just looked at online & TRX training. Your ads are tailored based on your Internet activity, not MFP's choice.
Mine always shows an online shirt store (designbyhumans.com) because I'm constantly looking at designs there. Proof that it's the ads are tailored to what you specifically look at. as I'm sure about 90% of the people on this site haven't even heard of that website!0 -
Mmm... Mcdonald's vanilla ice cream cones. They're a wonderful 150-calorie treat. :-)0

well lets be real:0) McDonalds is a part of life, we as the over wieght, just have to be strong enough to make smart choices when there. Hardest thing ever was to order the oatmeal instead of the mc muffin i so love. That oatmeal was sooo good, it really was:0) great now i want micky d's
Actually the McMuffin only has about 30 more calories than the oatmeal, plus it has a lot more protein. It's really not a bad breakfast choice.0 -
I still go to mcds on nights im running around. I love the grilled southwest salad, grilled chicken wraps, chicken sandwiches(no mayo) and the parfait.0

this!
It is why the majority of the ads i see now are for weight loss OR banking institutes *L*0 -

A lot of the adds are based on the cookies collected in your browser. Chances are if you've been to say, Modcloth and Express a bunch of times, you'll start to see those ads. At this very moment I've got ads for Jillian Michaels and that stuff since I've been all over fitness sites all day long! LOL.
I could be wrong, but that's what I'm thinking is the culprit behind MOST of the ads. There's AT&T ads, Slim in 6, etc..0 -
It tracks what you search online or what the key words are on the site than promotes based on what you looked at too. So if you were on the mcdonald's website looking up nutritional info earlier today, than it's likely you'll see quite a few mcdonald's ads. This happened to me when I was researching fork lift prices for my business class. Never saw one before I did that and it took me MONTHS for the stupid ads to move on to something else. I've also had it do it to me based on the programs I run on my computer. This may just be a google chrome thing though.0

I hate to break it to you but that oatmeal isn't much better for you than the egg mcmuffin. It's chock full of added sugar. Even the salads and wraps at McDonalds aren't exactly healthy. I would stay away from McDonalds at all costs; I wouldn't go more than once every two weeks. I used to get an egg mcmuffin and a large coke every morning for breakfast. Now, I haven't gone there in more than three weeks. I have a goal to go an entire year. There is nothing there that I need.
It wasn't the McMuffin that was hurting you - it was the Large Coke.0 -
Someone needs an ad-blocker. I don't see any ads on MFP
Agreed^0 -
The ads are from your own web history so are you sure you have not been searching Mcdonalds and thats not having a good i search different types of food for the calorie content,0
-
right now mine is an ad for Keller Management Institute....never been to, or googled that either...never even heard of it before.0
-
Ads, what ads? I use Firefox with AdBlock and I block all the ads - I got a surprise when checking the site at work how many ads there are on the site!0
-
Oooooh, ok...this totally explains the odd midget porn ads I get now.0
-

I think they have the smart ads that can see what websites or type of websites you've been to. I've seen ads for products on MFP right after I've left that product's website. ex: miracle noodles. Went to website, then ad pops up here saying if I go back and buy then and there I get 10% off.0
-
Just saw an add for McDonald's on here.....seriously?? For a website that is here to help people live a healthier lifestyle, I can't believe they would be promoting Mc Donald's!! SMH

Hmmm I don't see any McDonalds ads. Never have.0
