    I'll be home for Christmas is a weeper for me. Mostly, though, it's circumstance that makes the song sad. Songs my mom loved, or mattered to my grandparents, or were playing when something horrible happened (any way you want it, for instance, was on the radio as I was going to the hospital after being raped)... It's not the song itself: it's the context.

    Yeah you're right the context is what makes these opinions of sad songs, which may not even be obvious sad songs, so personal. I can't listen to certain songs because of things like that.
