How did you decide your goal weight?

I picked a clothing size, and guessed what I'd need to weigh to fit in that size. If I get there before my goal, I am fine. If I need to weigh a little less, I'll work on that too.
The size is 1-2 below than me at my thinnest as an adult, so around 15-20 pounds lower than my estimated weight at that point.
But I might also decide to focus a lot more at that point on fat loss, if I am not at peace with my abs at that point (which is definitely a possibility). But once I got to that point, the scale would be irrelevant for me.
I think my number puts me at "overweight" on the BMI charts, but I don't think the BMI charts are all that helpful in my case. The math doesn't seem to mesh with my body composition.0 -
I am already the lowest weight of my adult life at 203...my "goal" weight is just an absolute guess. I did have it at 167 and then 157 and now it's at 147 because I just need a goal that still feels far enough away that I need to keep working seriously at this.0

I set my goal for about what I weighed when I got married. I feel like I looked good at that weight and felt healthy, with just the right amount of curves.0

I wanted to be under 190...but to put 10 lbs as a goal seemed silly so i started @ 20........I have also thought twice, or maybe even three times about changing it.....But i decided, maybe its best to reach this goal first....

I consulted with my doctor on mine, but it's actually still just a number, more than my real goal. My real goal is to be in a size 8 pants again, whatever weight that is. That's thin for my frame, but I think it's achievable in a healthy way if I can reduce body fat and increase lean muscle.0

I just picked a good, round number (200). If I'm still flabby at that point, I can go from there-- but I think I will probably be mostly muscle by the time I get remotely close to that, and I'll be okay with that.0

i went for the middle of the healthy range but i will see how im feeling when im approaching bmi 25 and decide on a final goal accordingly0

A healthy BMI.0

I just went with a weight that is obtainable but with some work and life changes. I can always make it lower if I get to my target weight and wanna keep going.0

I set it at my college weight. I thought I was "so fat" back then. *smacks head*0

GW: 140 lbs
Height: 5'5
I cant remember the last time I was below 140 lbs, the thinnest i was post baby was 148lbs, I want to get to that and some.
Im not sure why i picked this weight, I guess its the most realistic goal0 -
Figure 155-157 is the most realistic weight I can get to without sacrificing my training intensity.0

I decided on a weight that when I was at it, I felt physically my strongest and healthiest, it may not be what they say I should weight, but it is where I have felt my best.0

I want to be a UK size 14, and I estimate that losing 6 stone (84 lbs) will do this for me, this will still leave me "overweight" with reference to BMI, but I will re-evaluate once I reach the weight, still a long way to go yet!0

118. my bmi, and considering i have a real small body frame.....modeling.. i love jordan from 16&preg...and thats her bmi, my goal bmi, and she's the perfect body i want so taadaaa0
-
175. Right under my BMI. I have a larger body frame so the lower side of my BMI looks silly on me.0

I want my driver's license to stop lying!!0

It's the weight that my doctor told me she wants me at and I feel like it's attainable. We'll see if I want to go any lower once I get there.0

Soley based on my BMI0

Like many I went with a weight in the healthy range for BMI. My goal of 149 will put me down to a BMI of 22.00.0
-
My goal weight will get me into the "healthy range"0

My goal weight right now is 150. It seemed like a good number. My ultimate goal is about 130-140 I think. That is about what I was when I got married in 2006.0
-
BMI and i heard a doctor recommending someone of 5'2 to be 58kg! That's it.0
-
i'm with you on the 110! it was the weight i was in highschool & college. when i had a cute body & wasn't afraid of dressing rooms.0
-
I picked top of my bmi, since having a large chest and butt since puberty, once I get down to there I'll figure out if I want to lose more.0
-
I chose 165, because 1 + 7 + 5=13, and 3 + 1=4
4 is my lucky number.0 -
My goal weight is what I weighed when I was 35 and I remember feeling good at that weight. I am also very happy with pictures of me at that weight. Next, I decided to check out some charts and calculator to see where that weight put me.

My number is what I used to weigh and I was relatively happy with it. However wouldn't mind being a little slimmer, but want to be as slim as I was before. But I also want to be more toned than I was, so I am realistic I may end up weighing more than that, thats ok as long as i'm happy when I look in the mirror, so the 42kg is something to aim for for me rather than something to stick 100% to.0

It's been a gradual thing for me.
HW: 198lbs--- freaked out, started running and watching what I ate, got down to 175 without setting a goal.
College weight: 180lbs--- finally decided to step up the exercise and thought I'd be thrilled to get to 160lbs.
@ 160lbs: the weight kept coming off, and I finally felt "unfat" at 150lbs.
CW: 145.5lbs. I've decided that based on my current weight, if I manage to get my fitness level to where I want it (running 3-5 miles a few times a week, lots of yoga, some strength training), and eat well 80% of the time, my weight will probably settle between 135 and 140lbs. Plus, this is what my mom said she weighed during college when she ran and did construction work during the summers. Haha.
So, my GW is 135lbs, but I am not married to that number.0 -
I set 3 goals; my first one was 2 pounds less than my weight at my lowest 3 years ago. I passed this goal last week.
My second one in only 6 pound less and is the one I used for MFP, was the same weight as what I was when I got married before I had my daughter and stopped smoking- I think I looked nice on pictures back then, so feel confortable with that weight. I am now less than 5 pounds off that goal
The third one is my healthy BMI (at 24.8)- another 8 pounds less than my second goal.
I didn't want to set that goal straight away as I didn't want to feel discouraged by it being too far off. I now can celebrate little achievements along the way. I aim to reach my second goal by end of April, and haven't set a date for the 'ultimate goal' yet. I prefer to do it in stages to keep up motivation. I did this last year as well and have now lost 30 pounds since early last year- 17 of which this year, so it works slowely but surely.0
