101 Pounds and no gym0

I lost 25lbs without the gym. just home workouts0

I'm debating on if I want to get a gym membership or not. I would rather work out at home, but I feel like I would become more fit or even lose weight faster if I joined a gym rather then working out at home.
I've always thought of myself as a gym wannabe. I did lose over 40 lbs having a gym membership, but then I gained 25 lbs back... Guess what... That was WITH the gym membership LOL ;-P
I finally gave it up and am saving lots of $$$. I have an xbox kinect and multiple workout and dance games. I picked up a few weights after the New Years rush was over on clearance and have been loving it. I recently got an elliptical for home also. It did take an initial investment, but it can be done without also. I can afford it right now, so I did it. I couldn't think of any better use than my and my hubby's health.
My hubby suffers from extreme social anxiety, so he quit going to the gym fairly early on. This way he can work out in a comfortable environment too :-D0 -

I couldnt have done this if I hadnt gone to the Y and signed up with their bootcamp classes.. we have an AMAZING ex NFL player who takes us through bootcamp, he is so supportive and motivating and encouraging! Its taken some dedication and early mornings (4:30AM) but I would not take it back for anything in the world! My body is starting to feel toned and awesome, and since I pay up front for the month and that forces me to keep going because I really dont have that kind of money to spend!0

I lost my first 40 lbs without a gym.... but now I do have a gym membership. But the first year I had it, I maybe went a dozen times.0

I lost about 25 lbs using just MFP, following the calories. I did add bike riding in on the weekends. I would do about a 2 hour long mountain bike ride about 3 times a month. But really nothing more than that. I added in high intensity workouts and lost another 15 or so!0

I've lost 91 pounds without a gym membership. Years ago I tried gym membership, but really hated it. People just gawk at the fat person trying to exercise. I hated all the stares. So I quit the gym and continued to stay fat....years later...(2010) I decided to try to lose weight again. I lost 50 #s, but gained 30 back. I restarted in August 2011 in earnest and lost about 60 #s before I bought a recumbent bicycle. While I did lose without exercise, I find that now that I am exercising, the weight loss is somewhat easier to manage. I am feeling more energized and have much more mobility. Weight loss might not make a person happy, but it sure helps the physical aches and pains--and my "dogs" don't hurt so much any more either. My love and best wishes to you (and to all of us on the weight-loss journey). Sharon.0 -
I lost most of my weight at home with walking, and running...then I got a gym membership and have become much more fit as a result...it really depends on if you will use your membership or not...I go almost every day and try to run most days as well....I went from being a walker to a fitness nut....I say do what you think will benefit you most0

Had a gym membership for a little over a year and went pretty regularly (at least 3 times per week) but never lost weight. I didn't know how to work out hard with the equipment, and because I already had a lot of muscle, I think I needed a harder hitting approach. The gym kept me in shape, but I never got a serious result.
I started working out at home (treadmill and bodyrock) in late December, and all together I've lost 13 lbs and feel great. I guess I am more willing to get to the point where I'm ready to collapse when I don't have to face the drive home and seeing people lol also, being able to workout in spandex and a sportsbra in my bedroom, seeing my muscles working in the mirror really motivates me :flowerforyou:0 -
yes, 26 pounds and no gym. Find an exercise that you can see yourself doing forever (walking, biking, jumping jacks, etc) and do that. At home work outs are very convenient for me.0

I lost 20 pounds at home. I used to go to the gym and learned a lot there (aerobics classes, body sculpting etc...). I didn't like the odor. My work hours changed so it's not convenient to go to the gym so I do most at home (have weight bench, elliptical, dumbells and the great outdoors) and like it better. I do a little at work as we have some exercise equipment there also. Watching your calories is the biggest factor in weight loss and THAT doesn't happen at the gym. Good luck to you.0

I lost the first 6 pounds by changing my diet and lost another 11 pounds after I started doing workout DVDs 4-6 times a week Jillian Michael's is where it's at! A lot of people also lose weight simply by going on walks everyday! Try some different things out and do what's is comfortable for you and what works for you Best of luck!0

could you share more on yout weight loss plan? what kind of exercises? which dvds? thanks alot0

On demand workouts, a couple of workout DVDs, an aerobic step, and a couple of weights... that with lots and lots of walking and calorie counting and I'm down 24.5 lbs. since January 9th.0

I've been loosing weight by doing Jillian's DVDs and eating healthy!
No gym here.0 -
I started P90X two and a half weeks ago. Then added MFP, along with a proper diet, four days ago. The two didn't cost me a dime, and I've lost a combined 11 lbs in the last two weeks, going from 249 to 238.0

I've lost 26 pounds here, mostly through food tracking. I walk or use a home lifecycle about 30 minutes a day.0

Its more on what you like, I used to go to gym and switched to home workouts this past September. I used to hate working out at home when I had gym membership, it does have benefits, you can take group classes, and also the people working out can be a motivation (at least that was one of my reasons). But, now I am in love with working out at home, reasons- do it anytime, no closing/opening hours, no membership fees, and no waste of time (driving back and forth from the gym).0

Yes, all 43 lbs with a low cal diet at MFP.
No gym, or exercise to talk about
I am now starting to exercise. but no gym planned0 -
Not one pound of my loss was shed in the gym. Not saying gyms are bad, they just aren't required weight loss. The area where I live doesn't have a gym. 90% of my workouts have been Zumba from either the Wii or DVDs. The rest have been other various cardio DVDs, bike riding, running/walking.0
-
I ride my bike, walk, and do yoga and cardio workout videos on youtube.0

lost 41 pounds without stepping foot in a gym.
MFP, Zumba DVDS/Wii, Just dance series on Wii, Walking/Running around my neighbourhood.
I just started the gym last week, mostly to take note of what they give me to do with proper form and such so i can do it on my own after :-p0 -
-87lbs and I haven't set foot in a gym (other than to find out the membership fees were out of my budget)0

I don't have a gym membership, I walk at the biggest mall in the city and now to increase intensity I run up and down the stairs. In my area there are lots of mall walkers. The local malls allow it, I just don't take my wallet in but I also try to go early before the mall is open. As I walk by the stores i study the window displays and have decide which stores I am going to shop in with my new body. It has become my goal/focus and I push myself harder as I know the harder I work the sooner I i'll need a new wardrobe!0
