Lost 18 lbs eating by MFP's standards (and eating my exercise calories) and using Your Shape Fitness Evolved (both first and 2012 one)0

For me, a gym membership is a waste of money. I workout from home. I use free online resources...such as bodyrock.tv and ZWOW (youtube) for some great workout routines. I go running outside. I do stair climbing. I ride my stationary bike.0

I got rid of my frontal buttocks by working out at home. No gym, ever ever. I've been to hotel fitness rooms and if a gym has that same type of atmosphere, no way. Plus I can't afford it right now.
I do bodyrock.tv workouts most of the time. I work out 6 days a week and went from a 34-35" waist to 25". I also have a treadmill when I want to mix things up or I run at my local park.0 -
I don't have the extra money to do a gym membership. I just do videos and sometimes make out my own routines to do while watching TV. I work with free weights alot and on nice days go for a long walk/jog0

I cant always get to the gym, so I do stuff at home.....workout dvd's, dance around the house, stretch and stuff like that. Im well on my way....you dont need the gym to get to your goals...it just helps. But the motivation comes from within. Good luck!0

I have lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks by changing my eating habits and going on a few walks. I think there are plenty of exercises you can do outside or at home for little to no cost. I would try that before going for the gym membership.0

when i lost weight before i only did WWs and walked 10,000 steps everyday. Lost 40 pounds in 6 months0

I have lost 30 pounds since June 11. I walk 2-3 miles a day. We have an elliptical at home but I only use it when the weather is really bad. I also have hand weights and the 30 Day Shred. My neighbor loves the Leslie Walking CD's. You can do it!!0

My first 15 lbs or so came off just from eating at a cal deficit, and running outside.
If you have the drive, you will find a way!0 -
I lost 25 lbs, and no gym. I changed my eating habits and walked A LOT.0

I haven't had a gym membership in 10 years, I always workout at home, I use bodyrock.tv, you don't need a gym to get in great shape!!0
-
No gym here! Although, I think it'd be more motivating, but yes I've lost some weight working out at home.0

I do both. I workout at home to dvds then hit the gym. I can't workout 5 days a week at home because I won't workout in front of my husband in this small living room with him sitting on the computer staring at me..makes me feel weird. The gym is my escape for an hour and half each day 6 days to get out of the house. I put on my music and forget the world!0

Yes. I lost lots of weights walking outside and doing workout videos/DVDs at home.0

I lost the first 60 pounds working out at home and now I have joined the "Y" and to lose the next 120 to tone and for the classes they offer. Plus my kids love the "Y".0

All of my weight has been lost doing workout DVD's at home & eating better. But, it's all about what works for you and would keep you motivated.0

I'm definitely the type of person that needs the gym atmosphere - I'm too distracted at home!
Most gyms will give you a few days as a free trial - I suggest doing that with as many gyms in your area (you could get as much as 2 months free out of it if you go from gym to gym each week haha). That way you'll know if it works for you without paying yet!0 -
ive lost 44 ib i go to zumba once a week but that is pay as i go then i just do work out dvds at home, it can be done if you cannot afford it you just have to have the motivation.0

I've lost 9 lbs from eating well and doing TurboFire, definitely don't need a gym!0

I go to the gym at school and, more importantly than dropping the pounds, have made friends there.
Even so, I have some home workout videos/games that really push me. I think it's all about how creative you get with your work outs.
Personally, though, I wouldn't stop going to the gym for anything.0 -
I have lost 14 lbs without even working out anywhere :P
When I do workout, it's by going to the park, doing pushups and jumping jacks at home, or kettlebell at home.
Gym's are the biggest ripoff ever b/c they know only a small percentage of those who sign up will ever use it.
Use that money to buy a good juicer or some good organic veggies0 -
No Gym membership here. My wife and I have a treadmill at home that we use, we walk twice a week outside during the winter and will increase that as weather gets warmer. I also use the P90X DVD series. I have lost 40 lbs over the last 15 months and my wife has lost has lost over 50 lbs. My wife does take advantage of classes offered around town occasionally, but they usuaully only cost $5-$10 per class0

I have lost more weight just going to a track and walking for 45min to 1 hr, and i also get to enjoy the sunshine!0

I've lost all 68 of my pounds with out ever having stepped foot in a gym. Diet and at home videos, walking, and finding other things to do outdoors have helped. I also bought adjustable free weights from the local thriftshops. It is totally possible to do this at home. I'm looking at joining a gym but with summer just around the corner I cant stand to be inside when I'm in an office all day all I want to do is enjoy the outdoors!0

I lost some just working out at home but chose to go to the gym because it has more equipment and since I want to lose weight and tone the gym helps plus I burn alot more calories there at 1 time then home and my gym has a smoothie bar a spa and a cardio cinema room so it is also a way to get away from the house for me.0

Tzun Tzu, in The Art of War, says, " know yourself and know your enemy. If you can know only one, know yourself."
So will you work out at home?
My answer is yes. So I work out at home. I am less likely to actually go to the gym and work out. I know, paid the membership and all that. So I got some gear for a home gym that suits me and I am working out regularly. Also using www.bodyrock.tv for HIIT workouts. (High Intensity Interval Training) That website has a lot of resources as well.0 -
I've lost a total of 143 pounds over 6 years and have never been into a gym. Hell, I only really started getting into exercise that wasn't yoga or walking about a year ago. Combine in social phobia and agoraphobia, I never really go anywhere far.
I do step, aerobics, weights and elliptical at home. I eat plenty of good and bad and try to stay within my macros. It's not a race - it's a lifestyle change. It's better to change for good bit by bit than to suddenly overhaul your entire lifestyle in my opinion.0 -
I have lost 16 pounds without a gym membership. I do have a treadmill at home which was great when it was really cold outside but now that it is warmer here I will be walking/running outside. I started the C25K program weeks ago. I am on week 4 day 2 ..you can look it up onlien or seek out the C25K group on MFP. I love it. It basically is a program where you walk and run for about 25 to 35 mins three days a week (I do it every other day) The running intervals are short at first like 30 seconds , then a minute and you grdually build yourself up to run a 5K. I have also changed my eting habits significantly, cut calories, etc.
I am thinking of joining a gym or buying soem weights though because I have not done any strength training and I need to because I know that will help be build some muscle and burn calories faster.0 -
I don't go to a gym, cannot stands gyms!
I started off last year by walking every lunch break. Then I got a Jillian Michaels DVD for at home (which I still use about twice a week) and now I'm close to completing couch to 5k.
I went from a BMI of 27 to 21 at the moment.0
