I LOVE this! I keep seeing people complaining about 1200 calories. I too was a 1200 eater until I read and learned more about a healthy way of doing this. :)

    I started at 1,200 calories a day because I didn't know better.

I lost about 15 pounds from February thru July of 2011. Then I started eating at least 1,650 a day - up to 2,200 depending on TDEE - and weight started FALLING OFF.

About that same time I started lifting weights - and backed off the cardio.

Am I looking bulky and mannish yet?
HA! bulky and mannish - girl that body is perfect! how to compliment you without sounding like I'm trying to hit on you! seriously you look FAN-tastic. I have a loooong way to go - time for me to get serious.
  • WOW SO INSPIRING. You all look fabulous! I have a few questions for you guys since your success rate is VERY high and you all look so great...So I have a very active job...I walk anywhere from 5-10 miles a day (usually around 40 miles a week) (unloading trucks) just at work alone..not including any extra exercise I do...MFP has me set at 1400 calories..but I have a fit bit and it adds in the extra calories I need to eat..I'm NOT sure if it's accurate...Some days it brings it up to almost 2500 (even more than that)...and usually I don't eat close to that....My BMR is like 1700 so this has been a point of confusion for me too...I feel like I need to be consuming more...but I'm still unsure of what the right thing to do is...I seem to be losing verrry slowly. I started in January and I've lost around 20 pds..maybe even a little more..I also want to start weight lifting...so if anyone has any tips. I would GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. One last thing... what does TDEE mean?

    Total Daily Energy Expenditure....

You probably need to be eating an upwards of 2000 calories or more a day, however, 20 lbs in 10 weeks is 2 lbs a week which is the highest amount anyone will recommend. I think you are doing great! keep up the good work!

Thank you so much. I'm trying! Got another 40 to go...and then I will re-evaluate and see if I'd like to do more...I'm feeling great so far..

Just posted my success story a few minutes ago and then saw this thread. No starvation here, started at 1500 calories but usually eat 1700-2000. Eat my exercise calories too.

Like most everyone, I started here at 1200 because I wanted the weight GONE as soon as possible. That lasted for about a month before I realized that wasn't a good game plan. For the majority of my weight loss, I ate between 1350-1500 plus exercise calories, so typically between 1800-2000 total calories a day. For exercise, I run and strength train. I recently had to increase my calories to over 1800 net because I was still losing on maintenance!
But what I find more amazing is that last time I tried to lose weight, and ate under 1000 calories a day, I looked a LOT different at my "goal weight."

I have been trying to talk myself into lifting. Your pics have just inspired me! I want to look as healthy and fit as you do. Thanks so much!

I'm confused, if my BMR is ~1400 and I eat 1270 plus whatever I burn exercising, is that "starvation" ? I always eat if I'm hungry and have felt plenty fueled for my workouts but I don't want to be starving myself either! I've set my goals at 1/2 lb per week because I am very close to my goal weight.

I recently bought new rules of lifitng for women, so I may start following those eating guidelines to support my lifting anyways, but I was just curious :)

    Hi there.
What does that book say about your eating when you're lifting? More protein?
    Thanks.
  • way to go your gorgeous people, you! i started my second run of weight lost and going to do my bmr due to the fact that the last time i lost weight, i lost MORE around my bmr until i went down to 1200 and then it became IMPOSSIBLE to lose any more! this time, i will always remember, there is a reason that you must eat to lose!

This thread is so inspiring! I just love seeing the pictures of people who have lost weight without starving. I have been trying to up my calories but I'm just not sure what to eat. In order to still loose weight at the higher calorie levels should I eat certain foods?

I started my journey August 2011, it has been a slow process compared to some of you but so far I have lost 31lbs. I do not have pictures from the beginning but my before pics here are from October 2011, I had lost approx 18lbs at that point already and my after pics are from Feb. 25th 2012.
I have been lifting for about 5 weeks now, new pictures to come soon!

I mentioned earlier that I usually start my day with a 600 calorie breakfast... that was no joke! This is what a typical morning looks like at my house. We are now enjoying Mexican omelets but the calorie count is about the same. I've also switched mostly over to green tea instead of my beloved cappuccino... but only until I get over this little plateau I've been working on for a few weeks. :) Then I'm back to loving my mocha! LOL

Losing weight doesn't have to be awful! It can be filled which a lot of wonderful food.

    breakfast2.jpg

Breakfast is my largest meal of the day with lunch coming in around 450-550 calories and dinner around 350-450 calories. Depending on the calorie count, I leave room for 3 snacks as well.
