I've heard so many different views on drinking Diet Soda. How do you feel about it and why do you feel that way?

i still drink it. i don't see anything wrong with it. i usually only drink a glass at dinner anyways. i say if you want some, drink some. it's certainly better than some of the other things you could be drinking (or eating) instead!0

get set for craziness---
I drink 4-8 diet cokes a day. 12 ounce cans. I have for more than 15 years. Before that I drank Coke. Had to switch to diet as I went from a job where I walked miles of stairs every day to sitting on my butt. I have had none of the problems that you see scaremongers talk about with diet sodas. And I've had no problem losing 30 pounds in 5 months. Some people have claimed that diet soda causes spikes in your blood chemistry, etc. I've checked my glucose levels many times while drinking, before drinking, after drinking diet soda and my blood sugar changes the same as if I drink water.
Some people have bad reactions to artificial sweetners. They shouldn't drink diet sodas. Most people have no problems. Go with what works for you.0 -
I feel that diet soda is bad for me because it tastes like *kitten*. That, and it doesn't go well with Jack.0

Love them, but gave them up. I had an unhealthy relationship with them. 10-12 a day, sometimes more. I hated being so dependent on them from the moment I woke up until I went to bed. If I could be a moderate consumer, I'd do it because did I mention I LOVE them? But I can't. I don't feel different since giving them up physically, but mentally I am much happier.0

go with what works. personally any diet soda increases my appetite through the roof. i may treat myself to one in a pinch 1-2x/month and feel guilty afterwards. i figure i made so many great healthy changes in my life why would i continue to drink chemicals. to each their own. i know many elders who still smoke and never get cancer, just as there are 30 somethings fighting it. all our bodies are different, my philosophy is why chance it.0

artificial sweetner is not bad for you. some people dont respond well to it but medically it is perfectly okay to take. that said, it has been proven that consuming artificially sweetened drinks/foods will maintain your sugar cravings the same way that eating sugared foods/drinks does. So, if ur looking for a healthy alternative to sugar, i'd say go for the artificial sweetners/diet sodas, but just be aware that you will likely still have sugar cravings.
I dont drink diet coke anymore (used to drink 1-2 cans/day) because i've cut out almost all artificial sweetners because im reducing (quite successfully i think) my sugar cravings, to help make the whole healthy eating think easier.0 -
It's better than drink full sugar drinks obviously. I am not bothered about sweeteners such as aspartame as there is aspartic acid in food too and greater concentration.0
-
its my vice and i won't give it up. but, i do drink a lot of water daily - like 1-1.5 gallons a day so if i want a diet coke, i'll have it.0

Slurp! Ahhh! I love it0

I hate it. I used to drink it, but it gradually made me feel ill. Aspartame in general makes me sick. I get migraines and feel nauseous.0

i feel like IT IS DELICOUS and i have already had a liter of diet mountain dew this afternoon. this is not the norm though, i am pregaming for midnight hunger games. but yes, i do love me some diet soda.0

Yummy, and I think it is fine in moderation. Good hydration too.0

Tastes horrible. I hate the taste of artifical sugar.0

Doesn't go well with rum either0 -
tbh, i hate diet soda and i'd rather drink water. regular soda on the other hand...0
-
i feel like I have a mouse in one hand and a dt dew in the other but i quit drinking soda completely when I lost all my weight now I drink it again ... its evil but i love it0
-
I only drink it if I have to belch LOL ya now if you get an air pocket that wont come out other than that I only drink water and wine and i've been known to hit the Vodka (my weakness) which I am trying to control oh I forgot Im a big coffee drinker too0
-
who loves (diet) orange soda?!!0
-
I don't drink it because of migraines. Aspartame and I don't get along.0
-
I don't really mind diet ginger ale too much, but I don't really like to drink too much of it (a couple of times a month at most, usually less). I prefer sparkling water with some fresh fruits tossed in.0
-
My motto.... go hard or go home. If I'm going to consume calcium-leaching phosphoric acid, I might as well get all the sugar to go with it
I only drink water and unsweetened green tea 95% of the time. I will drink mega green juice or an iced tea when I'm out sometimes.0 -
I drink it sometimes. I think its probably bad for me. But being alive is bad for me...every minute I live, I am increasing my chances of dying. Its certainly a crutch. But I think the occasional diet soda is not worse for me than the pound of sugar they dump in regular soda. So I try not to drink either. But when I want one, I drink the diet soda to save myself the calories.
I'm not perfect. The world isn't' perfect. The food i eat isn't perfect. I try to eat whole foods. But sometimes, I want something sub-optimal. And as long as its not every day, I have it.0 -
I drink a can of diet coke a day. As well as plenty of water. I can't have full fat coke as the sugar makes me have mouth ulsers as i dont drink sugary drinks.
A lot of people are confused about diet coke.
There are a lot of myths about diet coke:
- That is causes spikes in blood sugar - WRONG - it can't do as there is no sugar in it - it is an artificial sweetner that fakes the sweet taste - no glucose.
- That it causes weight gain - WRONG - there are zero calories in diet coke. The only far fetched link any articles makes between obesity and diet coke is the suggestion that because it makes you taste a sweet taste, you will go onto having chocolates etc, or that because you have opted for a diet coke, you are fooled into thinking youve saved loads of cals and then eat an extra large big mac. I think you've gotta be pretty stupid if you do either of those things. I treat diet coke as my sweet treat to sooth my sweet tooth- i dont then go onto have chocolate and biscuits.
- That it rots your teeth - WRONG - only sugar can rot your teeth - real sugar. DIet coke is carbonated water, colouring and sweetners. Yeah ok its not nutritional and healthy but its not the end of the world
The only true health concern surrounding diet coke, as with all sweetners that you'll find in chewing gum, splenda sugar, diet food products, is that it is linked to cancer - and the aspartame is linked to brain disease. However this hasnt been proved and many many things are linked to cancer, as a lot of articles base their 'science ' on "Oh Johnny has cancer... Johnny ate bread... BREAD CAUSES CANCER!"
_- Also, dont be fooled into thinking it hydrates you and that you can replace water with diet coke -YOU CANT!0 -
true dat!0

Would you call that drink a "Jack *kitten*?"
sorry, somebody had to say it...0 -

x2^ couldnt have said it any better.0 -
I "heard" diet soda is bad (thru reading over the years)
1. takes calcium from your bones
2. the sweetness actually makes you crave more sweetness
HOWEVER
I LOVE DIET COKE AND I STILL DRINK IT
I do not like the splenda diet coke-yuck0 -
I feel that the right kind tastes good. and it fills me up so I'm not as hungry. also, no calories. and I'm not scared by the chemicals-in-food police. so I drink it.0
-
Useless substance. Has no nutritional value or benefit. The caffeine dehydrates the body, causing more thirst. I will stick with water, almond milk, protein shakes. But do whatever you want. Whatever works for you.0
