Oh how I loved Bright Eyes, back in the day...and Dashboard Confessional. Those 2 bands take me back to a verrrry special place in time. Speaking of, I need to download some of that so I can go back there anytime I am feeling nostalgic...

I would like everyone to share their workout playlists! I am always looking for good music to workout to!

My favorite bands/singers are: Belle and Sebastian, The New Pornographers, Camera Obscura, St Vincent, Neko Case, Low, Broken Social Scene, The Books, Yo La Tengo, Steve Wonder, Spoon, Stereolab, The Mountain Goats, Nick Drake, The National, Sufjan Stevens, The Smiths, Hum, Morphine, Grandaddy, Sam Cooke...

The list goes on and on...
Great list, and I second the workout playlist request. Every time I see a workout playlist thread on here it's always full of metal responses, or stuff I really am not interested in. I had an excellent indie workout playlist a few years ago, but in between then and now my iTunes got wiped and I lost all my playlists. Ugh.

YOu definitely are my people! I saw Superchunk three times...they put on a great show! I was also lucky enough to be in Athens during the Elephant 6 days and saw Neutral Milk, Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, and Apples in Stereo at the 40 Watt a few times. A NMH/OTC concert was a spectacle to behold!!!

i wonder if we overlapped! i was there briefly in '99.
love all the elephant 6 goodness!

and gbv! just caught them again on their 'original lineup' reunion at the matador records fest in vegas. what a crazy 3 days: pavement, cat power, gbv, spoon, jon spender blues explosion, liz phair, belle & sebastian, sonic youth, girls, ylt, ted leo, new pornographers, & many more all played. it was the best!

I never know what qualifies as indie or not, but here are some not-pop, rap, or rock-music bands & singers that I like:

    Regina Spektor

    Neutral Milk Hotel

Gotye (Does this count? I don't care.)

    Of Monsters & Men

    Radiohead

    Tom Waits

    Interpol

    The Kills

    Yeah Yeah Yeahs

    Young the Giant

    Snow Patrol

    Death Cab for Cutie

    The Black Keys

    Phoenix

    Interpol

    Radiohead

    Spoon

    The Decemberists

    Deftones

Dashboard Confessional (Judge me if you will)

The list goes on and then drifts into random places (class rock, punk, hip hop, etc) ... but that's the indie/broody/ folksie side of it

Gotye's a weird one to class. I consider him indie. Though his first single from his latest album is destroying the charts worldwide, right? SO WEIRD. And great!

    BUMP!

I don't know which ones are officially "indie", but I love Sondre Lerche, Landon Pigg, Garfunkel and Oates, Lisa Mitchell, Agnes Obel, Lights, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, La Roux, Elliot Smith, Bright Eyes, Zee Avi, (also I'm currently on a Lana Del Rey binge, but I assume she's not 'indie").
Also --two of my exboyfriends are great indie musicians! "Kyle Logan" is one, and "The Colourist" is the other!
A few of my friends have great bands too: AKW, a Fine Frenzy, Dead Sara, and Juliet Simms,

I feel so bad for the Basics. At the same time, I enjoy Wally's Gotye stuff a lot more. The Basics are kind of... basic.
(also I'm currently on a Lana Del Rey binge, but I assume she's not 'indie").
I think she's the antithesis of indie. I don't know, there seemed to be a lot of sketchy stuff around where she came from and how she made it. I don't think she's talented but I can't deny how fun I find her stuff. It's darn catchy.

The Shins and Arcade Fire. They be too commercial at this point. I don't know. I don't listen to indie for indie sake like some folks. I just know that I love them and that's all that really matters.

I was going to post something like this the other day...but I obviously didn't.

Built to Spill (my favorite band ever)
    Arcade Fire
    Elbow
Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses
    Avett Brothers
    Josh Ritter
    Dispatch

Oh, I could go on and on. Check out this song though. Pure awesomeness.

You are my favorite simply because you mentioned Avett.

Saw Elbow live a couple of weeks ago, for the first time in ages. Guy Garvey is made of magic. I thought my face was going to explode from grinning so hard.
