I've never heard any of my friends say "yous"...it's always something like "you guys" or even a singular "you" covering a bunch of people when the context is understood.
same! only once have i heard it and it was a hillbilly uncle of mine.0 -
I would think "you guys", but not "you" as a plural.
You would be wrong.
I say 'you guys'. I'm American but not southern. I never say 'y'all' unless I'm doing an impression.0 -
I am Canadian, I have always said y'all
I had no idea it was weird, until at a meeting at work one day, and I said it, and the entire room just stopped everything and laughed....
I guess many Canadians do not say that......no idea why I do.....0 -
It can also be singular or plural.
JM0 -
i'm from texas, and we say it instead of "you all" or "you guys" etc...
ex:
where are y'all going?
what do y'all want to do?
how are y'all?0 -
Substitues for Y'all...
Yens (My Grandmother says this - She is from Pittsburgh)
Yous (New York)0 -
I am Canadian and I don't know anyone that uses "y'all" on a regular basis.
I would just use "you". For example:
- when yelling at my kids
"When are you going to bed"
Could be for one of them or more than one.
y'all is the quickest way of being labelled an American.0 -
It's a Southern thing! I didn't realize how much I said it until I got onto this site and was throwing "Y'all's" all over the place. I bet some people get annoyed but I honestly can't help it! lol.0
-
Hey y'all! LOL0

If y'all sounds even remotely like it may have two syllables....you're saying it wrong. Nothing is worse than a forced y'all. I grew up in Texas and lived most of my adult life there and in Georgia and Mississippi. I say "you" and I say "y'all"....just depends on my mood.0

As a Canadian, around here we don't use y'all. However, there's a heavy french influence in certain parts of Canada, and they say "you guys", or "yous", meaning all of you (plural of you). But, personally, I say "all of you guys"...I avoid the use of "yous" like the plague.
(btw, go SENS go!)0 -
There is no Canadian version of Y'all. Canadians only ad eh on to the end of a sentence to ask a question or get confirmation. Y'all isn't in the vocabulary at all.
I am Canadian, and I have lived in Charleston South Carolina where I have said eh and Y'all in the same sentence. I'm no less intelligent, but I did get a few chuckles. I liken the Y'all to a very slow country drawl. I love the south and the amount of time people take to just enjoy life.0 -
Don't they say "you guys"?I think i'm getting a feel for this dialect :glasses: thanks... y'all!
so what do u think people who dont use it say in its place? for example ahem... canadians?0 -
I'm Canadian, and we don't use y'all, unless we're trying to be funny. Usually we use "everyone" or "you guys" or just "you" depending on the situation0
-
Canadian's use y'all as well...0
-
In Pittsburgh we say yinz. Hence we are all yinzerz!0
-
It's not just a Southern thing, though. My mother's family is from West Virginia, and they use it all the time, which is how I've come to use it all the way over in Washington state.0
-
I'm from South Texas. I say, write & type YA'LL all the time. The first time I told my kids "ya'll go in yonder" - he's like "where's that?"   :laugh:0
-
there are also the nuanced uses such as ...."all y'all" and "each of y'all" ......... :-)0
-
and then there is the good old stand by
YA'LL COME BACK NOW0
