There is a woman in my area who looks worse than that. Besides the cowhide skin, she is skeletal thin with wildly long curly platinum hair. I saw her at the store one time, she smiled at my3 year old daughter who proceeded to scream like the Grim Reaper was coming for her. I tan on occassion & have seen her at the tanning salon early in the morning, finish tanning & walk across the street to another tanning salon. When I see her at the WaWa, it's like a train wreck, don't want to stare, but can't look away. I have often wondered how old she is. Kind of sad really.0

Holy crap thats scary! I tan EXTREMELY easily but I always have lotion of at least SPF 15 on and if I know I'm going out for more than 2ish hours I wear 30. I do tan in a tanning bed (guilty) but its like 1 times a week max. A 6 year old though?? what is the world coming to? I thought it was bad when I see 12 year olds at my tanning beds getting spray tans!0

That is not the result of occasional tanning at 44.....:yawn: I am 44, tan now and then to chase away the dark dreary Vancouver winter blues AND grew up and lived in sunny South Africa, and the result is very far away from that leather covered person...0

If I'd only read the story I would have said it would be reasonable to believe she didn't put her daughter in the tanning bed. Seeing her mom go all the time, a child that age could make it up that they'd gone after getting a sunburn.
But the problem is after looking at her everyone believes she did it because anyone willing to do that to themselves must be completely lacking in common sense. Even if she didn't do it though, I still think it's pretty silly to take her kids with her and make them sit there while she's in the tanning booth. They're either being locked in the room with and completely bored or being completely unsupervised.0 -

I saw the news story. The woman has makeup on to exaggerate her point. And she didn't let her kid do the tanning bed. The kid got sunburned.. gasp... playing out in the sun!0 -

After seeing the little girl, who is fair and red hair, who doesnt even look tan nor sunburned. I am sure they will drop this. I think that the only reason this message went viral is due to what mum looks like. I could be wrong tho.

When I was in MA visiting a few years back I went to hometown tanning salon and had to fill out papers & such. One question posed asked if I used any other tanning salons. I asked why they asked this and the owner explained that the owners/mamagers of the tanning salons had come together to deter the tanning addicts from going to multiple salons every day...I could not believe this!!! It would never had crossed my mind about a tanning addiction gone crazy...it is yet another addiction...like food. Obviously this woman has some major issues and feels she 'looks' better all bronzed up like that.
What can I learn from this?! Lots...She has her own crap to deal with now...just like I do from all the years of poor eating habits...she will have to live with the consequences...just like I do. Subjecting herself to cancer, looking way older than her age, jeopardizing her daughter as well as teaching her daughter bad habits: if I look at what some of the consequences my extra weight has caused me and how it all still affects my life I will probably find parallels: teaching my children bad habits, diabetes risks (have type 2), heart problems, high blood pressure risk, stroke, etc.. Her issues do not take away from mine...I hope she gets help and addresses her needs...0 -

I'm not sure I like the idea of picking on a woman who either has a serious disease or a serious mental illness.
It sounds like a simple misunderstanding. Whatever choices she makes as an adult, so long as she isn't actually taking her child tanning (sounds like she and her daughter were 'pretend' tanning while outside in the sun) we cannot make the decision that she is a bad mother.0 -
i dont think it's true..i think everyone specially the media is miss interperting it. maybe the little girl accompanied her mom one time but never actually got tanned. i have 4 daughters and when kids are younger they dont exactly say wat they mean at times they may say it a little different..she said she went with her mother to the salon, she didnt say she laid in a tanning bed...and my kids hav really sensitive skin and get burnt super quick being at the park..my opinion, everyone is entitled to one.0
