    5/2 - 22,078 Steps = 9.66 Miles = 743 calories

    I'm using the accelerometer on my iPod nano for the numbers.

    I'm taking my May goal to just 10k/day. I need to start recording my runs as runs again and that means they don't count as steps. That's what I get for using a mp3 player as a fitness device. :) Saving up for a FitBit. Maybe by June.

    where do u get ur calories from because my fit bit gives me alot more then that and i have no idea how u manage 20000 thats amazing

    First, thanks! :) I'm quite proud of the changes I've been able to make in just a few months and your recognition gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. :)

    I have an iPod nano 6th generation that has an accelerometer. It's the same device that the FitBit uses, but the nano doesn't have an altimeter to measure stairs. It measures steps, miles and calories. I have an HRM and did several high-pace walks and runs to compare the calorie burn. The iPod was always lower, and I figured out that for me, at least, the calorie count is roughly the additional calories burned by walking/running, not including my BMR calories. It's not exact but it's all a guessing game. :)

    The FitBit is measuring your total daily burn (TDEE) - at least that's my understanding. I don't own one (yet). When I get one I'm going to compare the two. Hopefully I'll find that the FitBit burn (TDEE) is higher than my BMR + iPod calories...the difference being the other NEAT (non-exercise burn) activities I do throughout the day.

    As to how I get to 20k... I started parking in the farthest spots, going up and down every aisle at the store instead of making a beeline for what I need (warning- do NOT do that if you are hungry! :) and just moving more. I mow with a reel mower-it's a smaller width so I have to make more steps to cover the lawn. I drink a lot more water and at work refill my glass by heading to the dispenser downstairs instead of going to the closest one. I walk during lunch and take a nice stroll most evenings after I have the kids put to bed. A lot of small changes that have added up.

    Some days it's not easy to even get 10k, but I just have this notion in my head now that I want to be active every day, that I'm changing my life, not just trying to lose weight. That makes it easier to walk just a little longer, a little faster. I play headgames with myself, checking my progress. If I'm 300 off from the next 1k I push to get over that hump. If I'm at 2.3 miles I want to get to 2.5 ...I listen to audiobooks, so I get distracted and next thing I'm at 2.7 ...and if I'm at 2.7 it's not that much more to 3.

    In March I was 29 for 31 with 168.98 miles walked; in April I was 29 for 30 with 193.18 miles walked.

    Going for a perfect 31/31 in May, and at least 200 miles.

    5/1 - 13,634 steps, 6.24 miles
    5/2 - 14,554 steps, 6.66 miles

    wow. i'm amazed at you all. i'm not going to even make 5,000 today.
    but today is my first day back keeping track and paying attention.
    I really want to be more active.

    It's fun to see how much everyone is getting in every day.

    My goal is still set to 10,000 steps a day, but I am beginning to think I should change it to 12,000 steps in a couple of weeks, particularly if I can maintain the pace I have started this week.

    Really depend on how many steps it takes you for a mile. Best idea wear your ped and walk a known mile. then you will know. For me my step per mile is 2,631. But everyone is different. My mom is more my husband is less. The main thing is you are up and moving.
