Bikram yoga....AMAZING....AND GREAT BURN TOO! :smooched:0

I have a bad right knee, too. Can't kneel, and I just got my Level 1 Yoga Teacher Training Certification (to teach and assist beginners and beginning intermediates, pre- and post natal moms). Yoga is for everyone! Every pose has modifications. If you go to classes where people are competitive, try a different class or studio or try a video or audio podcast. Just because that person next to you can twist into whatever shape they are in doesn't mean they should or that they are doing it correctly. You only go as far as you can, honor you limits, and that will be enough to reap the benefits of yoga.
Someone above mentioned being buxom as a barrier to yoga practice ... I am very buxom, also, but doing yoga correctly doesn't cause problems (or choking ... i do shoulder stand without interference). There are endless series and combinations for poses in yoga -- there is something for everyone. Simply doing seated stretches for 10 minutes feels wonderful!0 -
I love yoga! gotta say hot power yoga is my favorite! :happy:0

I love yoga and have been practicing for a little over 9 years now. Vinyasa (aka power) yoga helped me lose about 20 lbs. back when I first started. Nowadays I do kickboxing (Turbo Jam) for my cardio but I try to squeeze in at least 10 minutes of yoga a day. There's nothing better than a nice, gentle yoga practice after a kickboxing workout.0

I love yoga! I do it several times a week, either as a full practice or combined with cardio.0

Whether you get a good calorie burn or not depends on the type of yoga. I've really worked up a sweat from Power Yoga and hear great things about Bikram too, though I've not tried it myself. I love yoga, but have only recently gotten back to doing it on a regular basis. Right now I'm doing Kundalini and Yin yoga several times a week as well as daily Hatha yoga.0

I have been practicing for 4 years, I am more toned, mindful and calm than ever! If you are practicing Vinyasa style or Power yoga it is definitely one great burn holding those poses really calms the mind and energizes the body. I highly recommend it!0

I am a bigger gal and I definitely not the smallest or youngest person in my class. Luckily my teachers are very helpful to find modification for poses where my body gets in the way.0

Just started a class every Monday and I'm loving it!0

I do it about once a week on one of the xbox games called Your Shape.. I also have a DVD but I'd like to take a class someday.. I find that I feel really good and can breathe better after I do it.0

I do yoga weekly and definitely want to do more of it, but I have to fit other cardio and strength training in some days!
I fell in LOVE with Bikram yoga last summer and I'm looking for a studio around here BUT I will be going to a hot yoga class (similar, but not the same unfortunately) next week! :bigsmile:0 -
I don't do yoga. I do Yoga X. Bring it!0

I include yoga to my workout regimen. I must admit, i started yoga to check on girls but recently i attend yoga classes to actually focus and learn from the yogi.
the reason that i became interested is that i notice that it healed by back pain which becoming a pain now that i'm in my 40's. also i feel calmer too. also improved my sports participation, friends told me that i move better but i can't say "it's the yoga" to macho guys. most importantly i notice that my sex performance improved in many ways.0 -
I find yoga a freeing a restful practice Just don't get to do it enough0

I Love Yoga!
My workout schedule, time & $ don't allow me to take any classes right now. But, it is still part of my routine at least 4 times per week!0 -
I like doing yoga but I was bummed to see how few calories it burns once I joined MFP. I hear the yoga section of P90X is pretty intense and actually burns cals.0

I did yoga when I was young, but cannot do it now because of a bad back and injured hip. I'm finding yang-style Tai Chi to be a perfect substitute. It is mindful, in the way that yoga is, but fully exercises the joints in a way that yoga doesn't.
If anyone is looking for an alternative to yoga, try tai chi. The burn in calories is extremely high. And it is a weight bearing exercise as well.0 -
I have a friend whose only workout is Bikram yoga several times per week and she is whip thin. I cannot do heat though0

Yoga is how I found my way back to fitness from fatness. I was about 240 lbs and completely out of shape when a friend invited me to a yoga class. I went out of sheer frustration with myself, but was in LOVE after that first class. I go once or twice a week and seriously feel it in my muscles when I miss. It is the icing to the cake of a well-rounded work out routine. (Probably not good to use a cake analogy on a weight loss site, but whatever's clever)0
