The insecticidal genes actually come from some bacteria, from what I remember. The corn produces enough pesticide that the runoff can pollute the local environment. And it's not like it's something you can wash off ... it's in the corn.

So, call me a pseudoscience believing nut, but I'm definitely cautious about GMO crops. We just don't know what effect they'll have on people long term.

Aspartame is a huge conspiracy in which the FDA were paid off to turn a blind eye to the fact that it gives you cancer and causes you to gain weight.

Anything with Aspartame in it gives me headaches for some reason.

My favorites have always been the shake weight and body wraps. Haha, or those contraptions that move your body for you that supposedly help you lose weight and/or build muscle even though you're not actually using the muscle to move.
Also that you have to drink 8 glasses of water a day--just water. I tried drinking 8 glasses of just water per day and I had to pee a lot and would wake up in the middle of the night really thirsty.

"GMO is bad for you"

I have asked people 'why' a few times, and nobody has ever replied... funny that!

Because it sounds all scary and sciency? And like, science is bad, and stuff.

Reminds me of people posting ingredient lists, thinking it must all be "bad" because they don't know what it is. Someone actually included "sodium bicarbonate" as a "scary" ingredient. Yep. Baking soda sure is awful.

It is possible that they use chemicals to do the GMO.

We all know that chemicals give you cancer.

...but we're all going to die pretty soon anyway. Dihydrogen monoxide is an additive in practially everything, and it has been shown to cause cancer. 100% of cancer patients were found to have a significant amount of dihydrogen monoxide in their diet. Heart disease patients too. And diabetics.
Crap, I have consumed a metric ton of dihydrogen monoxide...you can't get away from that stuff, it is everywhere, it even falls from the sky...we're doomed!

"I eat so much less than my skinny friend and yet I'm heavier!!"

That is almost definitely not the case. And you are probably not with this friend 24/7 so how do you know this anyway?

The assumption that your plateau is 'starvation mode'......it's more likely that you're not logging accurately...under estimating calories consumed and over estimating calories burned

This one drives me nuts, people see one or two splurge meals, and or see him/her on the couch and automatically assume that is he/shes life style.

I had a coworker tell me the other day that he has a friend who swears he builds muscle best by following this nightly routine: Lift weights, eat 50 grams of protein, watch 30 minutes of porn, go to bed. I laughed in the guys face... he swears it's because watching porn pumps in testosterone that will build muscle while you sleep. lol
Lol I think it has more to do with what he's doing while he's watching it. Definitely knitting. I can't think of what else it could be.

I can never concentrate on my porn when I'm knitting.

He actually makes it 30 minutes after about 5 I know what the plot is and ready for bed

Or that dumb HCG diet you will loose weight but it has nothing to do with only eating 500 cal a day. Someone almost had my wife convinced to go on this and it had nothing to do with the extreme calorie cutting. It had to do with the water they wanted to sell you.

    my favorites:

    -grains will KIIIILLLL you!!!!!
-"I'm going to juice fast/cleanse/detox to jumpstart my weightloss"
-you need to cut out fat/protein/carbs
-cardio will make you skinny fat, just lift heavy
-weights will bulk you up, just do cardio

and many others, but the grains thing gets my scientist panties in a wad.

    Bananas make you fat

Oh good Lord, do not even joke about bananas. Those things can kill you.

    true story. They're dangerous:

I was told you should always bring a banana to a party. :P
Oh, and for some reason a lot of people seem to think that vodka is 0 cal.

Of course not, but whiskey definitely is. :P

well . . . I do know LOTS of overweight people eating 1200 calories or fewer a day, while I maintain 130 lbs. at about 2000 per day . . .

You are eating 1200 calories a day, that's why you are not losing weight because you are in starvation mode.

This really makes me mad...there's nothing absolute.

My husband is like this. Every time when I rant about how hard the weight loss is, he would say something "You are not counting the bite you had yesterday". Come on, I have been good 7 days a week and one bite will change the world? but again...I still don't know all of it...
