Stairmaster is good. But with cardio, it's really the same across the board if you keep up a good pace and keep it going for a significant amount of time.
Don't trust the calories burned it displays though. Or the MFP calories burned for that matter. Get a HRM.0 -

There's an Incline Trainer out by NordicTrack. I know about it because Jillian Michaels promotes it. It's supposed to burn 5x more calories than a regular treadmill!

I might even buy it, but I'm focused on other fitness activities right now. You could try going to Sports Authority or a sports-related-place and try it. Doubtful it's at a gym though, it's not at mine0 -
Spinning burns a lot of calories too..0

By far the machine I burn the most calories on is the Cybex Arc Trainer....I think that may be what people are referring to as the "mountain climber" machine. To me, it's like what would happen if the eliptical and the stairmaster had a baby.
Good luck!0 -
It's more about the effort than it is the exercise. Crank up the intensity and anything can/will burn cals.
That said, something that is harder for you is generally easier to get high burns from.0 -

The versa climber is really tough and great for burning calories. Also the erg (rowing machine) is a great workout but its only really effective if you have a good sense of the correct technique.0

Planet Fitness is cheap and has the cybex arc trainer. It's great b/c you can adjust the incline and resistance to have a super hard workout.0 -
I agree that it is the intensity of the workout, as long as your eating
Right and moving your body you will achieve :-)
Goodluck!!!0 -
Spinning for sure!0

Cybex ARC trainer by far is the best for big burns. I do 1 hour every morning with the resistance at 100% the max and at a 3 incline. I'm soaking wet when done and burn 1200 calories. On good days around 1250 calories and today was 1171 calories. I do this at the YMCA and the trainers said keep doing what I'm doing. I'm 50 years old and proud of what I do on this machine. Scott0
