as long as the boat captain wasnt drunk i dont get what the big deal is.
if people called social services for kids being around drunk adults when i was growing up, noone would have been raised with their ral family
People call social services for everything these days. Also, you're about my age and the "system" wasn't what it is now. If you are deemed to be to under the influence and you are the immediate caretaker of child, they will investigate you and possibly remove your child for a short time. I'm not saying that I agree with how the system is set up but it is a reality
true but we survived, and some of us even learned how to mix drinks like true bartenders because of it. :laugh:0 -
You need a license to,
Drive a car,
Ride a bike,
Own a dog,
Run a business,
Cut somebody's hair,
Sell a house,
Go fishing,
Go hunting,
Walk in the woods,
Sell a gun,
Buy a gun,
To beg for money (Raleigh, NC)
Babysitting (New Jersey)
Sell lemonade on the corner
Have a garage sale
BUT ANYONE CAN HAVE CHILDREN, NO QUESTIONS ASKED?
^THIS!! I think you should pass a test and get a license to reproduce! :explode:
I wouldn't have said anything to the mother because she obviously does not care what people think if she is out flashing her boobs to people she just met. Your concerns would have fallen on deaf ears.
I probably would have made sure the friend was sober so at least someone looking out for the child wasn't impaired (cause even if the boat captain was sober they aren't necessarily watching after someone else's kid.)0 -

Are you talking in public or under the influence at all? Cause if you are talking in home, then yea there'd be a lot of kids being taken from their homes. :huh:0 -
I agree the child should not have been present, BUT
we do not have the right to force our views on another
it is her child and up to her to raise as she sees fit0 -
I have known parents like this. My kids were never allowed to go to the same functions as them. If she was that 'free' in front of her kid with all the new people, my guess is she does this sort of thing often enough the kid probably doesnt think about it. Its his mom's normal behavior. I could be totaly wrong, she could have felt coerced into what she did but she doesnt seem to have respect for her self to do that infront of her kid. Just my opinion..
Your group has enough respect for the kid/parents to be adults when kids are present and knew to say something to this mom.. Why didnt the other group do the same?
also there is nothing wrong with being nude in front of your kids if its normal behavior, as long as you arent perverted while you are nude. Some family raise their kids this way so paretns/kids think nothing about it0 -
Unfortunately, if she had the mind to put herself and her child in a situation like that, then what you say will have no impact on her. She's probably just get defensive and rude. I'd just stay away.0

Unfortunately, no they won't. Unless the child is bruised, broken, or extremely malnutrition-ed, there's not much that will be done. No matter how many times someones reported. There's too many kids in tough situations for them to find places for them all.0 -

Flashing your boobs about like trash is not apart of raising a child. Last time I checked?0 -
1) Sounds like you fancy your 'friend' just saying hehe!
2) I'd not bother talking to him about it, you will just come over as someone who is interfering. Let him get this sorted himself... Perhaps it might be okay just to say... and laugh while you say it so he -can't- take offense that you hope she doesn't bring her son again on an adult trip 'cause otherwise others may start thinking it is okay and spoiling the fun.0 -
I wouldn't have said anything, but I definitely would have written something about it on an internet forum later.
high-5!0 -
There are two kinds of mothers in this world: the kind who would get completely trashed and start flashing her boobies in front of her 12-year old son and the kind that wouldn't.
Do you honestly think anything you say can change one into the other?
I think this is the best answer I have read.0 -
Poor kid. The image of his drunken mother's boobs is going to be burned into his memory forever. He's probably having nightmares.0
-
I'm sure at 12 he has probaly seen boobs, heck he has probly had his hands on em by this time. Most kids have lost their virginity or found their parents pornos. Naked bodies shouldn't be offensive, but he probly doesnt want to see his mom's.0

I might have said something to the effect of, "oh my gosh, your son is over there!" but been light about it. Now that it is over, I think the next step is your friend. Say something like "X, I'm really glad you met a girl, but some of us were concerned about how she was acting on the boat, especially around her son. I was uncomfortable and didn't know if I should've said anything. What did you think?"0

Thank you to those of you who gave serious opinions on this. Thanks to those who made a funny remark, I appreciate humor even when it relates to a serious situation. And to those who are took the time to leave a snarky comment, thanks for stopping by to do what you do.
In all seriousness, many of you are probably right, there would have been no point in saying something because it would have fallen on deaf ears. It's possible that the person who was most scarred from the situation was me and not the kid.0 -

Even if you're home and a neighbor calls because they think you are too drunk to care for you kids. The police will come and determine if social services should be called. Many times the kids are just sent to a relatives house0 -
No one has asked the really important question here. Did she have a nice rack at least?0

Maybe where YOU'RE from.
MOST 12 year olds are not that sexual, nor should they be. It's scary anyone might think that 12 is an ok age to be that "worldly".0 -

Ummm...my daughter is 12, and the stories she comes homes with from school make my hair curl. We just have candid conversations and I let her know what is and is not appropriate. She is very aware that what the kids at school talk about and do are not remotely acceptable in our household, but she and I have an open enough relationship to talk about it.0
