Couch-to-5K - Who's In?

The bugs were bad. I think I ate a few.
I think I caught a few in my face too.0 -
Just did week 1 day 2 today. I'm loving it so far, I'm really optimistic that I'll be able to run 5k at the end of the program. But I need to correct my form!0

Today is my rest day but I did do an hour on the elliptical. My knees are aching. It is also raining here so I'm sure that the rain is the cause of some of my knee pain. Any suggestions on what I should do?0
-
Deb I wouldn't do the elliptical on your off days. I would do something like yoga, pilates, or even go for a swim if you have access to a pool. Something low impact so your knees can have a break!0

Week 2 isn't bad at all. You're working up to it. I am doing the treadmill version which I think might give you more walking time vs. running. It's 1.5 minutes running then 2 minutes walking. I think it's great!0

I'm in. Started day 1 on Monday. Can't wait to do day 2 tonight.0

I'm in! I'm on week 3, run 2. Its a little more challenging this week as you run two 3 minute intervals. I'm training myself to work up to a full marathon in January. Being very optimistic Have a 5K walk/run this Saturday.0

Who wants to join me in doing the Couch-to-5k program?
Here is a link to check it out :http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
I am doing a 5k Saturday, but truly am not going to be able to run the whole thing. I want to be able to run a full 5k and maybe more. The program is 9 weeks long and I plan to start the program this Sunday. I plan to log my progress on MFP. I am going to Jamaica July 10th and hope that I can run while I am there, on the beach would be nice!
So, who is in?
I'm a recent graduate and just thought I'd send you a polite warning that you are embarking on possibly the greatest fitness choice you could ever make and a new addiction to running!!
Good luck and persevere, it's such a great program with incredible rewards at the end :-)
good luck to all of you guys starting out on this incredible journey...and have FUN!0 -
it is downloaded so I am locked and loaded girly!!!!! lets do it.0

Tomorrow I will be on Week 5, Day 3. I'm so nervous. The longest I have ever ran straight through was 8 minutes. Well tomorrow it has me going 20 minutes straight. I really don't think I'm ready for that! I quit smoking four months ago - I hope my lungs are ready for this! I have to watch my ankles too. They've been a bit sore the past couple of days. But this has been incredible and I am impressed with myself for actually sticking with this.
My sister and I are running our first 5K race in August!0 -
OK so I'm on week 4 of the couch to 5K program and lets just say its kicking my butt! I wanted to see if anyone else has a simular issue..... i need to loose about 70 lbs so I'm sure its a lot of strain on my body however the insides of my knees are KILLING me. Is it just the strain of my weight or am I possibly running inncorrectly? Any suggestions I can't stop now!!!!! Side note I'm extreamly flat footed (not sure if that may also play a factor).0

I've been pretty active (soccer, Insanity, etc.). I always know that I'm not a good runner. But, yesterday, when I tried to run a 3mi with a girl I know, I failed miserably. I did finished the 3 mile but at the point the girl was laughing at me. And I felt so bad. I've been kicking her *kitten* on the soccer field all the time. So, now I know how bad of a runner I am. Please feel free to review my profile / ask me questions. I'm gonna need a lot of help with running.
Just downloaded the program (android) and played around with it a little bit. I will try it tonight.0 -
I completed Day 1 of Week 2 today!!! I really didn't think that I was ready but it didn't kill me! I'm using the RunDouble app which I really like but today I couldn't get the GPS on my phone to work!!! I really want that feature so that I know how far I am going and what my pace is. I know that I am running too fast for being a beginner. But with no feedback, I am lost! Ok.....off to take the phone and GPS!
Oh....and I don't think that I'll be able to do the 3 minute intervals next week at all!!!!0 -
So, I did my Week 1 Day 1 run lastnight and it was cake. I can run a mile straight without stopping, but it is the next mile that kills me. Since I don't feel like I got a great workout in with just following the program I am going to fill with walking at lunch time and maybe some more running on my off days from the program. I tracked my progress with the Run Double app and love this by the way!0

I would love to but for some reason by week 2 my knee begins to hurt.
Good luck to everyone though. Running is so freeing!!!0 -

Hey there Nikki, I have about 40lbs to lose. I do think carrying extra weight has something to do with it. I would just recommend taking it slow and going at your own pace. I had to learn that I'm not going to look like a gazelle (or my husband) when I run, and for the most part I am just jogging, but I still break a good sweat! Everyone has their own pace. I say you shouldn't feel like you're gonna die, or barf, or pass out. I just don't think that's necessary. I think exercise is supposed to be fun. I mean, think of how good you feel afterwards. Seriously, just take it slow. Speed comes later. I am only going 4.7mph at my fastest, and I am tall, so that is not a big stride for me.
Another thing could be the shoes. Make sure you have actual running shoes because that really does make a difference. I should take my own advice! Also make sure you are taking a day off between workouts. I did this program years before and my knees started bothering me. I had less weight to lose but I was pushing myself pretty hard.0 -
Week 1 D1,2,3 combo -CHECKED. Went pretty easy. Will start W#2 this weekend. Can't wait to the more challenging one. Still want to take one at a time to build up my strength.0

I'm doing week 2 day 3 tonight and it's going ok started getting sore shins at the beginning of week 2 but it's easing off now! I did an extra day of week one because I was nervous about starting week 2 but I think as long as I'm going at least 3 times a week I can do it at my own pace, good luck everyone and try to keep at it!!0

Count me in too! I'n on wk4 of 'easeinto5k', which is a similar programme. Over 100lbs to lose so 5k in July is a massive achievement for me. Using Fitbit tracker too, which I love...

I was running 5k in early April so hopefully I won't have to start at Week One again, but count me in regardless!0
