Great post! I often walk in our park and see a very overweight woman walking slowly but steadily along the path. I want to go up and tell her I'm proud of her, that she's doing a great thing, and that she is beautiful. But I don't want to embarrass her. I think many large people think everyone is laughing at them, but I'm not. I'm happy to see them doing something for themselves to be healthier.0

I am this girl. I started running just weeks ago and was so embarassed. The way I felt afterwards and the amazing effects of it kept me going, even with upto 10 blisters at a time! Fit runners kept smiling at me when I glanced up and people have even stopped me to tell me I'm doing a great job! At 240lbs I thought I wouldn't be able to do it, but I'm improving really quickly! With each run I hold my head a little higher and smile a little more. My music blasts soooo loudly though! Beats headphones are amazing when running. I do 5-6 miles of run\walk at a time already and run my first 5k run on July 1st. I'm a runner for life now! Love it! X0

This. Was. Awesome. Even non "Fat Girls" can take something from this. So many of us live this - we go to a gym, or a park, or a fitness center and we see all of the fit people who have the toned bodies, the 6 pack abs (or at least flat, firm bellies), and we feel like we don't belong. "Don't look at me. Please don't look at me. Maybe in a few months when I get in better shape."
It's so encouraging to realize that other people understand and that other people aren't looking at us with sympathy or pitty or disgust, but with respect and encouragement and understanding.
Thank you to WHOMEVER wrote it, and thank you to the OP who posted it up for all to see.0 -

I wasn't sure of where the author was going when I first started reading, but I absolutely love this piece.I'm finishing couch to 5k... I have 2 days left. I can't tell you what it means for me to read this. Thanks for posting.
I know what you mean. I really want to start doing C25K again...I finally got back into the swing of things with it in April, but then got sidelined by my gallbladder surgery. I am determined to finish it.0 -

This was a fantastic read after all of the recent negative topic post recently. I hope one day soon I can hold my head up high and not be embarrassed about how I look and if I look like a beached whale doing certain exercises. Knowing that some stronger athletic people actually look up to those of us who are not as fit or athletic is great motivation to get over my own insecurities.0

What an awesome, inspirational post. I'll remember this when I'm out plodding around the neighborhood and walking the parking ramps in the parking structure at work. Rather than seeing the smile on someone's face as a smirk, I'll try to see it for what it probably is, a supportive smile.
:-)

This is a blog entry from flintland.blogspot.com.
I am in love with this person!
Hey, Fat Girl.
Yes, you. The one feigning to not see me when we cross paths on the running track. The one not even wearing sports gear, breathing heavy. You’re slow, you breathe hard and your efforts at moving forward make you cringe.
You cling shyly to the furthest corridor, sometimes making larger loops on the gravel ring by the track just so you’re not on it. You sweat so much that your hair is all wet. You rarely stay for more than 20 minutes at a time, and you look exhausted when you leave to go back home. You never talk to anyone. I’ve got something I’d like to say to you.
You are awesome.
If you’d look me in the eye only for an instant, you would notice the reverence and respect I have for you. The adventure you have started is tremendous; it leads to a better health, to renewed confidence and to a brand new kind of freedom. The gifts you will receive from running will far exceed the gigantic effort it takes you to show up here, to face your fears and to bravely set yourself in motion, in front of others.
You have already begun your transformation. You no longer accept this physical state of numbness and passivity. You have taken a difficult decision, but one that holds so much promise. Every hard breath you take is actually a tad easier than the one before, and every step is ever so slightly lighter. Each push forward leaves the former person you were in your wake, creating room for an improved version, one that is stronger, healthier and forward-looking, one who knows that anything is possible.
You’re a hero to me. And, if you’d take off the blaring headphones and put your head up for more than a second or two, you would notice that the other runners you cross, the ones that probably make you feel so inadequate, stare in awe at your determination. They, of all people, know best where you are coming from. They heard the resolutions of so many others, who vowed to pick up running and improve their health, “starting next week”. Yet, it is YOU who runs alongside, who digs from deep inside to find the strength to come here, and to come back again.
You are a runner, and no one can take that away from you. You are relentlessly moving forward. You are stronger than even you think, and you are about to be amazed by what you can do. One day, very soon, maybe tomorrow, you’ll step outside and marvel at your capabilities. You will not believe your own body, you will realize that you can do this. And a new horizon will open up for you. You are a true inspiration.
I bow to you.0 -
