Success stories from increasing fat intake

My macros are set for 50% fat 30% protein 20% carbs. My body loves good fat. Coconut oil is a staple in my house.0

I have a big problem with watching the calories go up from naturally fatty foods too...but I always feel so much better when I eat them especially walnuts, or avocado drizzled with a little agave syrup.
I lost a majority of my weight while on a low-carb, high-fat diet. It was lovely. I'm gearing up for another turn at it! And good luck to you!0 -
Im a carb fat machine. I've tried more fat more protein more carbs. Do you know what I've found? When I eat what my body craves, I feel a lot better. Sometimes its fat, sometimes protein, sometimes carbs. Since I started playing with macros its like my body knows and craves different things. I well say that my skin gets greasy with to muvh fat (love avacado nuts and eggs), my nails grow longer with more protein, and my mind doesnt feel right when I cut carbs (cloudy?)
Balance people. Listen to your body and it starts to know things websites dont tell you.0 -
I lost all of my weight counting calories and doing a low carb diet. I went from <100g to now <20g. I'm on my final cut to get that last 5%BF. I love eating high-fat low-carb. I make a ton of delicious food, and my SO (who isn't dieting per se) has lost a good 30lbs just by eating as I eat.0 -
You should check out heathereatsalmondbutter.com. She lost over a 100 lbs and she very much recommends a high fat/low sugar diet. I think her diet is about 50% fats and she eats tons of nut butter, avocado, chia seeds, and coconut oil. I'm still a "during", but I have lost 30 lbs from switching from all the diet low-fat foods out there to real, full-fat food. Like other people have mentioned, it just takes a lot less food to get full if you add a bit of fat. Also, I think food just tastes yummier and you need a lot less to get satisfied.0

This is all such great news to me!!
Congratulations girls! You look great!
Those of you who have lost all your weight this way... how do you do when you go out? What do you eat?
When you travel? That's one of my biggest concerns, we do a fair amount of traveling on motorcycle, eating out, and eating in other people's homes. Can't carry much food on the bike. I was planning to mostly eat from grocery stores...
What would you eat, under those circumstances??0 -
OH my God I'm up 3lbs since last week. I'm freaking out.
For the first three weeks since I cut out sugar, flour and upped my fats I was losing steadily. Now I stepped on the scale and I gained 3lbs in one week eating the exact same thing. My ratio is about 50:30:20 fats: protein: carbs.
I'm so bummed0 -
I would consider myself a success story when it comes to upping fat and lowering carbs...
And yes, tapering waist, healthy skin, nails and hair, I don't get sick or have any aches and pains. Here's some photographic evidence (taken a couple of weeks ago, and I've lost another 5 or so since then - the before photo was when I stopped eating grains and upping fat, not my ultimate before photo):
Wow!! Amazing results!! Looking great!!0 -
bump for later!0

Could it be that time of month? or something salty recently? Even constipation can do 3 lbs...
Hope things even out for you !0 -

Nope, not TOM. And no salt either -- my diet has been all whole foods and healthy stuff. I did bump up the fat slightly but stuck to the 50/30/20 ratio.0 -
I usually eat about 50% fat. I have lost over 70 pounds since last november. I don't eat sugar on a regular basis or other nutritionally void foods. I feel fantastic!!!0

Sounds like a trick your body's playing on you. I had a hugely stressful day last week... it made my wt. go up & stay up for almost a week... last few days it has just dropped off (with extra). Hang in there! Whatever is going on, you should pull through soon.
My ratios work out more like 1/3 each... I'm losing wt & feeling great.0 -

That's wonderful fisherlassie! Congrats & keep up the good work!
Mind if I ask ...What do you eat, for fats?
I'm also feeling fantastic, since I started eating virgin coconut oil. :drinker:0 -

I'm giving myself a break from weighing. Finding out that I gained 3lbs in a week was just so depressing that I spent the last two days thinking "what's the point?" I need to get back to feeling optimistic and inspired by the changes I've made in my diet and nutrition. I had been feeling so great prior to stepping on the scale, and so grateful that something seemed to be working for me, that I need to get back to that feeling instead of losing all hope over 3lbs.
I'm going to continue with the ratio I've set up for myself (50/30/30 with 50% from healthy fats) and with the Primal Blueprint I've been following. I think the only thing I'll change is to pull back on the dairy as I've been treating myself with it and maybe overdoing it.
Thanks for the encouragement -- I'll just keep on plugging away and will reassess in a few weeks!0 -

I consume 112g of fat or less 103g of protein and 10g of carbs or less per day ( 65/30/5 ratio respectively). Today marks week 2 of Keto. I've lost 10 lbs (7 in the first week). I definitely have more energy, sometimes too much. I don't feel tired after a meal, even when full. I've been told that my skin is softer. But the biggest difference is that I feel great.0

Congrats to you! How on earth do you keep your carbs below 10?! What does that diet look like?! I'd like to cut mine, but I find that even if I eliminate the crackers at lunch and oatmeal for breakfast (I don't eat bread), I'm still consuming a ton of carbs with all the veggies and fruit I eat all day! What are you eating? x0 -

I think my diary is open for your viewing pleasure. I don't eat fruit. I eat veggies sparingly, those with lowest carbs. I have a recipe for flax bread, which has zero carbs, and cookies that have .77 carb per cookie. Recently discovered Miracle Noodles and they are a life saver. I made a pizza crust with them yesterday. Look at my recent posts, both recipes are posted. I don't count artificial sweetener in my net carb count. That works for me, as I've been in Keto for about 10 days while consuming it. Crackers you say? Google flax meal bread or crackers. I think I saw a good recipe. You can cut calories in those bread recipes by using egg whites. I'm all about new and creative ways of not eating carbs, so feel free to ask me anything. My next experiment will be to make Panna Cotta with agar instead of gelatin. High fat, no carb sweet!0 -

Where do you get your coconut oil and what kind? Definitely interested but don't know where to look.
Thanks!0 -

Hmm... my post disappeared!
I get mine at a health food store. I think you can get it at some costco's. Not sure. But just make sure its Virgin Coconut Oil. Mine is Nutiva Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. By the way, it is solid, and should not be kept in the refrigerator... and its pricey.
Good luck! :happy:0 -
How's it going for everyone???
I would love to see a group for eating fat to lose wt. is there one?0 -
It's going great for me! At least...I feel great. I haven't weighed myself since a few weeks ago when I went up 3lbs in a matter of days. It just freaked me out too much.
Only thing I'm dealing with right now is...constipation. Sorry for the TMI. :blushing: :blushing: :blushing: :blushing:
Not sure what is going on...if it's my body adjusting to more protein or what. I'm drinking tons of water, taking flax seed, eating over 10 servings of veggies every day, no processed foods and no sugar. Maybe the drastic change of cutting out most wheat and dairy just made my insides freak out? Although it seems to me that increasing the healthy fats so much would made things easier but...nope.
I'm afraid to weigh myself because I feel like I haven't had a normal BM in a week so where is all that food going????
Besides that...I feel absolutely amazing. ALL of my cravings are gone. I've incorporated some fruit back into my diet on occasion and it tastes just like dessert.
The next step is to make sure that I continue this plan once I move back to CA in a few days. It's been easy having total control since I'm living by myself here. I can't wait to move back home but I have to be careful about "celebrating" my homecoming with old trigger foods. We're actually going straight to a BBQ from the airport. Rigorous planning will be key.0 -
That's fabulous! Congrats! :flowerforyou:
Little trick I learned... magnesium citrate - take one capsule in the morning, when you first get up... some people like to take it at night, as its a help for sleep.... I haven't tried that. Its good for you & really works!
I'm doubling my fat today, & cutting down on the carbs, going to try the eat thin to lose wt. method. But I too am feeling great! :drinker:
Have fun at the BBQ!0 -
I just felt like checking in...I'm wondering if other people are still seeing success from increasing fat?
I am up and down. Came home from New York and lost those 3lbs I was stressing over (in retrospect I am pretty sure the weight training was the culprit, as previous posters suggested) BUT went straight to the BBQ...to dinner with my fiance...to a wedding...and to celebratory margaritas and Mexican food...all within the space of a week. I gained those 3lbs right back and have no dumbbells to blame.
So I started a 2 week reboot, kicking sugar again and stabilizing my macros at 50% fat, 30 % protein and 20 % carbs (for the most part). I'm dialing the dairy back again as well. And once my ankle heals from its sprain I'll be adding more cardio back in. For now I'm just lifting weights and doing moderate exercise.
Anyone else having success?0
