You might try Explore Asian Organic Black Bean Spaghetti. I haven't tried it yet, but have heard great things about it. For a 1.75oz serving it has 187 cals, 4.5g fat, 16g carbs and 20.5g protein vs 2oz of whole grain barilla which has 200 cals, 1.5g fat, 41g carbs, and 7g protein.

Personally I'll take the little bit more fat for the reduced carbs and HUGE increase in protein. It's made only of black beans and water so it's gluten, dairy and egg free.

why can't you eat pasta? I just keep it to a small about like 1oz and it seems to work well!

However, spaghetti squash is a good natural replacement and apparently there's some fake noodles called miracle noodle that are supposed to be interesting.

I agree keep pasta but watch , I mean really watch your portions and choose the whole wheat or multigrain variety, no processed whites, ugh

I try to use spaghetti squash. Pasta is my biggest weakness. I have no control with it. So using a different type of pasta does not work for me. I would still eat 4 helpings.

Why not just eat wheat pasta and stick to the serving size? Spaghetti squash is pretty good too.

Is there a specific reason you are not eating pasta because speaking from experience If you miss it... eat it...because eventually you are going to eat it and you are going to binge on it... and you will feel like crap afterward. Unless of course you can NEVER ever eat pasta again in your life because of some medical issue. I just eat it in a smaller portion - I only make 2 portions of pasta at a time one for myself and one for my roommate... that way there is no going back for seconds... its pretty easy really and I only do it once and a while.
  • Spaghetti Squash is awesome! :)

Why not just have pasta and plan it into your calories/macros?

I had regular pasta 3-4 times a week the whole time I was working on losing weight. It never seemed to slow me down.

    I agree!
I don't think you need to deprive yourself of something you love. Just keep it in moderation. Weigh your servings so you are sure you are only eating one serving, then mix in fresh veggies and lean meats. Just make sure you choose whole wheat pasta instead of regular, it's much better for you!

I love pasta but have had to give it up because I have no self control. I love it....miss it.....but have not given in to it except in a Weight Watcher's Smart One from time to time.....and ONLY because that gives me portion and calorie control. Other than that, there is NO pasta in my house. I know everyone says to just follow portion control, but the thought of ONE ounce of pasta just depresses me. I would rather do without than to face one ounce for dinner. LOL...but, hey, everyone is different.

I love spaghetti squash but not eaten like pasta, so that didn't work for me.
  • is the issue the carbs or the processed flour? cause i use whole wheat pasta instead of semolina flour pasta.

Spaghetti squash is so delicious with fresh chives, fresh thyme , fresh crushed black pepper and a little butter.
Also, I have tried Dream fields Low carb whole wheat pasta. It is a great value for you calories.

I agree with the posters above - my solution is to eat pasta but keep the portion size moderate and have lots of veggies with it.
Unless you have a medical issue that doesn't allow you to eat it - in which case you could try a veggie substitute like spaghetti squash or julienned zuchinni.
If there is no medical issue - why not factor it into your cals and macros now and again? I find the best way to deal with cravings is to eat a small portion, enjoy it, and then I can move on.
  • Bacon. It will make you totally forget about pasta.

I love Tofu Shirataki noodles!! Here's lot's of ways to prepare them: http://www.hungry-girl.com/biteout/show/2157

My best results have been draining and rinsing them WELL, then I pat them with a paper towel and put them in a hot non-stick pan to get the remaining water out of them. This is where you can get creative, I usually add some veggies and a few triangles of Light laughing cow. It is soooooo good!

The Shirataki noodles are fantastic and you can eat the whole bag for 40 cals, 1 g of fat, 6 carbs, 4 fibres and 2 protein :)

    Enjoy!!

I eat whole grain pasta, but make sure to keep to the proper portions, and use a regular red sauce. Stay away from any sort of cream sauce, like Alfredo. That's where the calories really start to add up.

If you miss it, have it, and fit it into your daily macros.

I understand not everyone wants to have many carbs, but to cut something high carb out completely seems silly to me, especially if you really like it! I have pasta pretty much every single day, I always have. My carb total is around 200-250g a day, and this hasn't stopped me losing weight. If I go low carb, I feel dizzy and faint personally.

The thing that made me gain weight in the first place was the portion size of pasta, I used to have 200g (dry weight) regularly. The reason why I weighed it when I wasn't focusing on my weight at the time was because if it was any less, I wouldn't be happy (loves pasta) but if it was any more, it wouldn't fit on the plate (massive steak plate) Now I have around 75g and firmly believe portion size, and calories are what matter the most.

If you still want a replacement, I'd find some veg you really like, and fill up the rest of the plate with that, or have sweet potato? <-- That stuff is gorgeous!!
