I'm on day 2 of phase 1. I started the diet Wednesday. I've tried it twice in the past but I never got past phase 1 before quitting. My weight loss had hit a plateau despite exercise and counting calories. So, I thought I would give SBD a go again.

    Is tHis group still active?

I lost 100 lbs on SB. Even after fertility drugs and a pregnancy, I managed to keep off 50 of it.

I just got back on track last week.

I love South Beach because I never go to bed hungry!

I have 151 lbs to lose, so I'll be around awhile.

If you are having trouble with phase 1, skip to phase 2. Ive never done phase 1.

    I'm still here! :flowerforyou:

I used SBD as a model for changing my diet, although my focus is more on cutting out sugar. In any case, I'd say I follow SBD about 80% but I eat a lot fewer whole grains. I also don't do artificial sweeteners.

    Hello everyone,

I am on SBD for about a week and a half. down 12lbs. Phase 1. Love it. I am not hungry, I have energy and actually went out for a sushi one night and didn't allow myself to panic over "being off program". I love the book. Very informational. I did switch over to the exercise plan he recommends and I think that is one of the big helps.

I will admit that I do keep track of my calories (having done Atkins for a brief time) I understand how easy it can be to go over a good healthy calorie level. But I do my snacks and I have my dessert so I can't complain. Anyone else drop a nice large amount and how did the switch to phase 2 go. I admit a little nervous about making it. Love the weight drop.

Hey, congrats! I think the exercise plan he added in the new book is great!
My take on SBD: it's a good primer for eating healthy, once you get past phase 1. The weight loss will likely slow way down, but as he says THAT is the actual diet, not phase one. Good for you!

I used it as a model for changing mine about 12 years ago. I also don't do artificial sweeteners, except stevia.

    Hi there !

Three years ago I opened an old SB book & decided to give it a try ...... changed some eating habits & lost a few pounds on Phase 1 ...... started Phase 2 and lost a little more ...... then joined the online group, where I got lots of ideas & support ...... what a great bunch of people !

After three years, I decided to try things on my own ....... have successfully maintained a 40+ pound weight loss, which is super ! But I've still got room for improvement ...... some online friends (former SB members) suggested I try MFP ....... well, I was shocked at how quickly those calories add up ...... so I've been tweaking my meals & going to the gym for more cardio ....... this site's enabled me to lose a few more pounds over the last month ....... I still eat close to SB ...... VEGGIES ARE OUR FRIENDS !

Best of luck to all of you ...... and feel free to "friend" me :flowerforyou:

Isn't it crazy about the calories? When I lost weight on SB in 2006, I never counted a single calorie. For some reason, it worked. But this time around, it just didn't until I started counting calories.

I'm at 1,780, and that seems perfect for me. I was already eating fairly Beachy before, so I didn't gave that huge drop like I did before. I have lost five lbs in ten days. Not bad considering I havent been hungry and I've enjoyed some carbs along the way.

I'm looking for a buddy

I started SB on Monday (6/11) and won't weigh myself until this Monday coming up ... I did it once after my son was born 7 years ago and lost 15lbs on Phase 1. I gained them back -- although keeping it off for 7yrs isn't that bad -- but! I have to do it again. Tonight, I find myself struggling to get through the night and it's soooo frustrating! I just want to make a big fat Nutella sandwich!

    Ugghh!

Hi! Welcome. A word of warning: several people have said that the weight doesn't fall off as quickly the second time. (maybe because folks kept a few good habits? I dunno). Regardless: don't give up! fend off the nutella!

Thanks for the welcome post
Not too thrilled to hear that the weight doesn't come off as quickly the second time around but I've decided to deal with any disappointments maturely and carefully -- while still continuing my diet. I've never made it to phase 3 -- I think alot of people lose it on Phase 2. That's probably what happened to me in some sense I just couldn't deal w/ all the choices and how to add anything back in gradually.

I love my jar of Nutella! I hope there is room for it in the diet at some point =/

Im going to start Saturday, June 23. I have to go to the store. I'm so excited. I have PCOS and I'm insulin resistant so I'm hoping this will not only help me lose weight but regulate my insulin and sugar levels. I get really bad crashes. Sometimes I feel like I'm going faint. Please add me as a friend if you're doing this because I could really use some ideas on meals and stuff.
  • I'm on Day 8 and have lost 9 pounds. Good luck.

  • I just finished up my 2 weeks today!!!!! Weighed in this morning and I have lost a total of ... drum roll... 9 lbs. I had lost the 9 lbs. during week 1, but after that I decided to start walking. I started walking 3 miles in the morning and 3 miles in the evening... WELL! I started to put the weight back on, despite watching all my calories, carbs, everything. I called the doctor and she said it was all water weight and to give it another week. This is the end of the second week and my numbers have come back down to my first week's loss. I am really discouraged, but I'm not going to stop. There are other benefits than just the number on the scale. But it sure is nice to see them going down, rather than up.

9LBs in 2 weeks is AWESOME.
    Congrats.
    Keep walking!

Have you read the south beach diet supercharged book? If you're new to exercise, or "out of practice" it's worth a read. He has an exercise physiologist outline an interval walking program.
And the book integrates eating and exercise well (again, it's more designed to appeal to folks who don't exercise regularly).
    Congrats again!

Do you need phase 1? the recent book suggests that many folks don't...

Then maybe you should. In the mean time (if you're set on that event), eat well, and watch the crap. Then go great guns after.

Well I did try this. Lost only 1 pound in phase 1 and gave up. I also did not like all the artificial sweetners he suggests as I believe they are worse than sugar.

Apart from that it was good but more beneficial to someone starting out as I was already eating pretty healthy (except the sugar problem).

He doesn't so much suggest artificial sweeteners as allow them. My sense from reading his book is that he doesn't want to overwhelm folks with too many changes. That said, many folks just skip the added sugars and don't replace them. Glad you figured out it wasn't for you, that's great.
