Do you "check in" when your weight goes up?

I weigh myself multiple times a day (I have a problem...I know). So I only count the one on Monday morning and record it whether it is up or down from the previous week.

I record whatever the scale says each day whether it be a gain or loss.

Every Wednesday I hop on the scale if I am at home (vacation and such) whatever it says is what I put as my check in. some days are better than others but I always log it.

I suppose it does make sense to log both losses and gains. Hopefully when I get used to this I will record more losses than gains. I am a new recruit but hope to stick with this.

I do if it appears to be more than just a fluctuation. I need to be honest with myself.

the ones that record only losses miss out on the great filling,
when you slipped and gained and worked to get back on track.
    The feeling is great!

I didn't record the temporary gains when I was losing weight, but now that I've been in maintenance for 2+ months, I just record it once a week when I weigh myself. It takes two seconds, but it doesn't change anything. Just habit. I only fluctuate in the same 2-3 pound range.

Thanks for all the responses......good to know I'm not alone.

For those who said they record gains as well as losses, because they don't want to "lie" to themselves, I guess I don't see it that way. I KNOW I've gained, I am being honest with ME..........I just don't have to tell the world that, imho.

It's much more motivating to me to see that I've lost 23 lbs, and if I go up a lb or two, I just keep working to get BACK DOWN to that...........and sooner or later, the scale will move again, and it'll be even less than 23 :blushing: :blushing:

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, my friends. YOU are awesome!

I'm a little confused. You have a ticker to show everyone how much you have lost. You want everyone to see that but at the same time say you are being honest with yourself even though you don't record your gains on here for everyone to see, so in essence it isn't about you being truthful to everyone but just yourself??? Why not record it for everyone? It's part of your weight loss journey? You are in here for encouragement right? How can people encourage you if you aren't honest with them? I'm just curious.

I log once a week whether it is a gain or loss. To be honest with myself and my friends, that way even if I am eating right and working my butt off they can give insight as to what I'm doing wrong.....

Walkwithme...very well said!! I totally agree with you :)

One or two day up I usually don't record, but if it lasts longer - I do. I'm annoyed at my ticker at the moment though as it has gone up couple of pounds!

I weigh every Friday. If Friday comes around and it's a gain, I record it. Gotta keep it real.

I record it--win, lose, or draw... OK. not a draw. But I record gains and losses. If I don't record a gain, I'm not being accountable to myself... I only record on my Friday weigh days though, even though I weigh daily or almost daily.

I used to not record gains, but this only led to more gains and eventually I was off the diet and eventually just started again from a new high.

Now I record loss or gain and if its a gain the chances are the next time it will be a loss.

Both for me... I prefer to keep myself honest, and I even update it weekly on my profile page (then condense it down to monthly at the end of each month for the sake of saving space.)

I record what ever the scale says, whether I have lost or gained. It is easier to keep track of it and if you don't record the gains, then what you have lost isn't accurate. It does get frustrating to see the gains but you have to work thorough it and work it back off.

I log my weight no matter what because I want to keep track of the overall trend. If my weight increases, I want to see the exercise food logs so that I can track weak spots in my lifestyle. Tracking everything the last time has helped me avoid pitfalls and be more successful with living healthy this time.

I do if I stay up for a few weeks. A one off I don't check in though.

    Yeah, ditto.

No, I don't. I feel that most of my gains are just fluctuations. When I upped my calories I gained a little and then maintained for a couple of weeks and then.... bang, I lost again.

I didn't record that as I felt is was only temporary. And I was still eating well and mostly with calorie limit. My extra calories during that period would have hardly caused weight gain.

Edit - I don't even weigh in on a specific day. I just weigh when I feel like it and check-in on mfp when I feel like it.

I weigh every morning, but don't log it into MFP unless it is Tuesday or I've lost more than 2 pounds since my last weight log. My posts here go to my facebook account and my friends and relatives don't need to know every time I lose .2 pounds.

I do log everyday over at fitbit.com so I know exactly what I weighed every day and can track my progress.

Your water weight will change by the minute let alone daily. If you have to weigh yourself every day, do it in the morning when you wake up. I would suggest logging it weekly. That's what I'm going to do.

    This.

Didn't read, but thought I'd throw mine out there. I almost always do, but the last few days things have been so freakin' wonky I've held off. I guess I've been waiting to stop gaining so I can record the high weight and then the loss with it to feel better.

Usually I weigh and log it every day because I think the patterns are great to see... every month on a certain day I gain 2 pounds and I know that, and that it goes away within a week as water, and I don't feel bad. If I didn't track it daily I might step on the scale during my weekly and think something was off when it was totally normal. However, sometimes it's hard not to let it get to me.

I would record it, especially if you use the tracker graph. You might be able to see patterns: time of month, season etc.

I started logging both bc when I lose I always get to celebrate that...I think its best to just be honest about where you're at :-)

Both, except during maintenance (which I am in now). I weigh once a week then I only log major changes either way (over 2 lbs).

Just the losses. I don't "check in" when I gain.

I did - not every time, but I did on a week that I just got out of control after Memorial Day. But I needed it to be a reality check (was glad to see it doesn't post publicly when you have a gain - only when you lose).
