Everybody looks so beautiful in their pics! Thanks for sharing these guys, I'm getting some fab ideas
I really love the delicate beading that some of you have - and I like the lace up back too... I might actually sound like I know what I'm talking about when I turn up Saturday !
I've checked, and they allow photos of what you try on - So i'll probably be asking for more advice in the near future too!
Keep 'em coming, I'm LOVING this thread0 -
now that is Stunning!0 -

This was mine last year, I'm barely 5'4". Simple and cost less than $200, it's Jessica McClintock.
Sorry I guess I don't know how to post pics in here. Doh! you can paste it into your browser.0 -
Especially for your first time out.....try on everything!!! You may think you know what would look good but you may be surprised.
I found that shiny satin looked bad, that I wasn't comfortable in strapless (I don't care what they say about big busted women doing great in strapless...I felt I was falling out of it) and I didn't have the figure for a mermaid. But I tried them on to find that out!!! My husband is 6'6" so I also found out I needed a tank style and that any type of sleeve restricted me from raising my arms up enough!!!

I saw this dress in the window of a bridal shop the day after I had a dream about it. In the dream I was kissing the guy I'd just met two weeks prior. We were dropping off some things at his dry cleaners when we passed the bridal shop. I said "pull over- that's my dress!" He looked at me all crazy and said "That's a wedding dress". I said "Yeah I had a dream about it" (I didn't tell him he was in it). We got engaged a year later, and the dress was still in the window- so I went in and tried it on. Perfect fit. Zero alterations. Today is our anniversary, we've been married four years. The picture on the bottom is the exact image I saw of us in my dream- I even got the hair done right

Okay, trying again. I waited nearly 25 years to have my dream wedding and my dream wedding gown. Don't make the same mistake. Try on every gown that strikes your fancy and find your "perfect" dress. I felt like a princess in mine. Oh, and I am 5'1" tall. I found that the A line worked best for my body type.
Thank you to Pregosaurus who clued me in to making the photobucket setting "public".
ETA: Oh, well, guess I'm not going to get it to work. Sorry.
In case the links work, here they are:

Sorry it's not working for you. Not sure what the issue is. I can see the pic when I click on your links0 -
Unfortunately this is the only one I have available online right now. But it was an A-line with lace around the top and around the hem. My mom actually made it.
You Mum made your dress? That's amazing! I have to get a claxon out to drown out the swearing if my mum gets near a needle and thread! Lol. x
Yes, fortunately she's VERY talented! She's currently making my daughter and I some renaissance dresses for a fair we're going to in September!0 -
Mine was a custom Dolly Couture with a white on white polka dot overlay.

That dress is almost the exact colour I want my bridesmaids in! Really unusual and really striking! x0 -
I was so sure I knew what I wanted based on the ads I'd ripped out of bridal magazines. I took those ads in and tried on all the dresses and was :indifferent: ... Then my mom talked me into trying on a strapless lace dress - I liked the look, though I did NOT like how I felt in a strapless, nor did I like the price. I had avoided them and halters like the plague - I'd decided either would make me look like a linebacker with my broad (i.e. fat) shoulders. Finally I gave up and did what everyone here has been saying, I started trying on a little of everything. When I got to this dress, all the other "maybe" dresses disappeared in my mind. Plus it cost less than half what the strapless did - and aside from the strapless vs. halter, they're basically the same dress (though different designers). It's ivory lace over champagne satin. These are photos my cousin took - they're the only ones I have handy right now. I was about thirty pounds less than I am now.
(man, I wish this forum had a post preview function! I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I made the img lower case... OK, I moved them to tinypic - I guess they've been on photobucket for too long, but that doesn't explain why I could still download them...)0 -
I am so jealous of all you girls that had coloured dresses. I'd kill for a red dress but i can't seem to find any in my price range. I'll probably end up going to David's bridal (we finally have some in canada!!!) cuz they are the most affordable. As for what you are looking for...dont get too set on a look...once you try it on you may not like it and that can be a real bummer if you had a set idea. I tend to really trust the people working at the bridal salons...find some pictures you like but then be honest and say you arent sure what you want and ask what they think will look good on you. Also, think about your wedding and venue...I'm getting married next june at a yacht club with a bbq...so I would look odd in a crystal covered ballgown that weighs a ton and will make me sweat all day. Prioritize what is important to you, comfort, style, colour, material, ect. and dont forget to have fun!0

Kept it old school because I hate my arms!

I do not know how to post pics, but one is in my profile. Check it out. Plus i gained 40 pounds before my wedding date, I only weighed 100 at the time. My doctor wanted me to gain weight,,sooo I did. I bought a strapless dress size 8, beautiful designs on it. Never wore it, I could not fit into it. So I am selling it, if you would like to see it. I am only asking 150 for

*__* I GET TO TALK ABOUT MY WEDDING DRESS? *squee*

I went in thinking I wanted something along the lines of either Pierce Brosnan's wife's wedding dress (simple gown with lace overcoat) or something kinda Rennaissance-y. No beads, not much lace, just simple and sleeved.
I ended up with a strapless A-line ballgown whose train I had removed. I can't find anything on this computer except for my wedding video and I'm not going to link that. It was Alfred Angelo and had an embroidered, beaded bodice and panel down my left side and what looked like an overskirt over the top. I loved it and felt like a princess in it. Tears and the whole nine yards.
Kind of like this:
http://www.alfredangelo.com/collections/productdisplay.aspx?productID=90cc2df9-22f2-4c3c-bff3-1789e3f9699a&categoryID=1af402e9-205f-4b7b-9d22-6fec77b3d187&pg=1&colorId1=
But shift the overskirt portion to the left, the over skirt was plain, and the underskirt was embroidered with beads. My embroidery and beads were gold.
I was much, much larger than you are though.0 -

I can't believe people are still posting! Thank you so much guys!
@half_moon, it's stunning, and I'd be raving about it too if I were you!
@Nataliaho, i love the coloured flowers, make the dress really stand out!
@qtiekiki - I adore the lace edging to the hemline on your dress, so elegant!
Only 1 more sleep until I get to try some on! BRING ON THE DRESSES!0
