Facebook or MFP? Which do you prefer? Better friends?

I'd never get rid of my FB...all the people I know and grew up with, see on a regular basis, and family is on FB. I don't post on there as much as I do here as changing my life health wise is my top priority but still, my FB family is very important to me.0

My friends on FB are my real friends. Most are people I know in real life -- friends and family. Some are people I met on Internet forums and got to know well (and many of them I've met IRL, too).
FB and MFP to me are two very different websites with different purposes. I like my friends on both sites and some are my friends on both sites.
And some of my MFP friends are people I actually know, too.0 -

MFP is where all of my beautiful friends are!! FB is where all my history is. I like FB it allows me to keep incontact with friends a family back home, but MFP is full of like minded ppl who care about my weight loss journey. Plus they appreciate the support that I give them in return.0

I've actually deactivated my fb account. I've made some pretty solid friendships on here and I typically turn to them than my 'real-life' friends. My issue with facebook is that it should not be used as a lifeline of communication. It's really desnsitized and I really do not care which married cop so-and-so was with last night.
If my real friends need me, they will have to resort to the phone or actual human-to-human interaction...the horror! haha0 -

i have gotten to the point where i really dont go on fb as often since i have discovered mfp. I started with zero friends now i have many. I have a large handful that i would even trust to watch my dog for an afternoon. I have a smaller group that have been super supportive and i know we would be great friends outside of mfp as well and i am sure there are many others that would fall into this category that i havent gotten to know yet.
Kinda sick of fb. Half my friends on there i really have nothing in common with and it would be torture to sit at starbucks with them for 15 mins. So mfp gets my vote. They should add a like button however.
I completely agree with ALL of the above!!! I haven't been on FB in months b/c it is a bunch of nothing on there to me...On MFP, I have learned so much and become close friends with quite a few people on my FL who I have quite a bit in common with...On FB it is only good to get on to see pictures that my family from out of town may post but other than that I would rather not even login...Thank goodness for MFP!!!0 -
I was thinking of this last night, so this morning I unfriended enough people to bring me to 75 friends all people I actually know and like. MFP is much better, at least on my facebook wall it seems there is a competition to be the most "clever" and tease and a lot of it is borderline insulting. The people I've met on here and had some interaction with I would love to hang out with from time to time, most of my facebook friends I avoid at all costs.
The only saving grace for facebook is that I live 2000 miles from my sister and niece and nephews, I love seeing their updates and photos, if it wasn't got that I'd deactivate that in a heartbeat. Also My grandparents all use it too and they enjoy seeing what everyone in the family is up to they believe it keeps them in the "loop" so that's cool too.0 -
Both for different reasons..I can be more myself on here, what with my mom, grandma, and well my not so thrilled by my mouth and preference for late night drinking chatter I get on here, friends on FB. Really I have a better relationship with my friends on here. I am accepted for me being me, and not judged, and trust me I'm a handful of wonderful. So if I were forced to choose..MFP it would be!0

I stopped using FB after discovering MFP. I keep it now for real life friends and family. The people that I have on there that I don't know won't delete me. I've tried deleting a few here and there, but that FB list is ridiculously large. Aside from family and my best friends on FB, most of them are people that I knew in high school or worked with at a previous job, and really don't give a crap about me anyway. I get way more love and support with MFP.0

Maybe i should go ask this question on facebook and see the responces. Haha. Of my 200 friends maybe 5 have heard of mfp. They are missing out but most are too caught up in their own self importance, or lack there of, to worry about fitness, diet, etc.0

I find that peeps on MFP have the same values & goals as myself!
Many of my friends on fb are "friends" with different ideals....

I had fb and than i deleted it. I miss seein the pictures but that is about it. I MFP. I can say iam addicted to it0

I am on MFP more than my FB now. I have family and friends on FB that I can't see in RL but they are not super supportive of my goals and lifestyle changes. I am on here several times a day logging food and exercise as well as reading forums and blogs. I even started writing my own when something pops in to my head.0

Since i found MFP I have spent about 90% more time on here than fb. I like (for the most part) the positivity. If you keep the negative peeps off your page it's actually a great place to hang!0

Two completely different things. FB is where I keep in touch with my widely geographically dispersed family and friends. We plan get togethers and trips, hear about the fun and not so fun, and share information about the world. But here is where I talk about weight loss and exercise and health. My friends here are also FB and Twitter friends. But there we talk about our whole lives with all of our friends. Here we talk about our weight loss goals, victories, and bumps in the road. I don't want to be obsessed with this part of my life, so compartmentalize it here. Then I can share sparingly along the way with everyone over there as I choose to.
This is exactly how I treat it as well. I don't have many crossover friends, but I like to compartmentalize too.0 -
I'm on Facebook more or perhaps just as much as MFP.
I don't add people I don't know FB and I don't add people I DO know on MFP. All my friends on here are people who don't know me in real life. I prefer it that way. I know people who use MFP but I prefer they don't have access to my food journal, exercise journals etc. I'm not sure why. I guess it's because I'm doing this for me, it's my own personal journey and I don't want people in my life to discourage me from obtaining the kind of body I want. It's my own private journey that I was to keep separate fro my "real life" friends.
I actually find it really refreshing to be able to say certain things on here and get the encouragement I need from people I don't communicate with daily. I also find you all to be more motivating and accepting of weight loss goals/getting in shape then many of my friends and family would be.
I use Facebook because I've been to several different schools over the past few years. Therefore, it's the perfect way to stay in touch with everyone. But to be honest it can and HAS caused a lot of drama. I am NOT a dramatic person but I've gotten into fights with my boyfriend because of picture that have been posted or comments that have been made. Every time a guy writes on my wall he wants his entire life story. People in my family have aired their dirty laundry in public and started Facebook wars...I've had my privacy invaded because they seem to change the damn privacy settings every time I figure out the current settings...so FB definitely has it's down side.
But I don't have unlimited texts, I get 500 a month and that comes FAST, you don't realize how many texts you get/send nowadays. So I really use Facebook to stay in touch with people, that's why I keep it. This site isn't really as much about the social aspect. Although I've met some awesome people on here.0 -
Mfp and FB are both a part of my life. I have maybe three people I would have watch my dog for an after noon on MFP. ( however I only have about 12 friends not 3k+) On FB I have my family and long time friends. Many of who I would love to meet, many of whom I have known for years. So for me its Apples and Oranges.0

For me, they are two totally different animals. Facebook has it's benefits for me, as it has allowed me to reconnect with people from high school and such that I never thought I'd see again. Whereas, I use MFP purely as a motivational tool for my weightloss/fitness goals. I probably spend equal amounts of time on both sites, but for completely different reasons. I have linked the two, though, so my Facebook friends can see my progress and be inspired to start or continue their own journey.0 -

Hahahahaha, I'm different than everyone else......I'm still a complete FB addict and I get on there at least once a day. One time, I didn't log on for like 4 days, and I felt SOOO lost!!! It does help me stay in touch with my family and friends, and I'm pretty nosy so I like to see what other people are up to (heeheeheehee). But I love MFP too!! When I first joined my MFP, I didn't anticipate answering questions on forums, or having MFP friends, but it's so great to have friendly and supportive people that can offer advice and guidance! This is such a great community!0

I have a love./ hate relationship with Facebook. Half of the time I want to delete it the other half of the time I like to see what my friends and family are up to since I don't live near them.
MFP is for my fitness and health goals. Most of my family and friends are not on the same journey (and I am not one to be super preachy about someone elses health, that is their choice and ultimately up to them to change)
So yea, I love MFP for the support in this journey but FB keeps me connected to people I don't get to see every day in real life that I miss.0
