Hi everyone, I am wondering if I can come back to your support site. I tried on my own and yup you guessed it have gained back 6 pounds. My knee and hips hurt again. I am so ashamed of my body. I think I get that I need to hear from like minded people0

Hi, my name is Kim and I'm addicted to food. If I'm feeling any emotion at all, I eat! Tired, bored, lonely, happy, sleepy, sad, mad, hurt, etc...etc...etc....I eat. I've always looked to food to make things better. I cut my finger today on lunch and I ate a piece of cake to make it feel better!!! I had a long day at work last night so I fried chicken!!! I have been doing better at making the right decisions, but it always catches up with me. I fall for it eventually. Especially if I get upset about something, which is at least every other day!! I'm a very emotional person. I'm giving it everything I got though. Starting today. I'm tired of dissapointing myself everyday. I'm so ready for a change.

This behavior is exactly what I do everyday. No matter what emotion I have, I eat. I just moved to a new town and my husband is very busy so I spend a lot of time alone. Spending all this time alone has made me very lonely and I have gained over 10 lbs since we moved her in August. I feel like I have no will power to change. I really want to get on track and lose some weight so that I feel good about myself. Right now I feel so crappy everyday yet all I think about is food all the time. Any advise from anyone would be great. Anyone overcome this kind of thing?

Ok. here I go... My name is Sara and I'm addicted to food. I'm 32 and have been known to eat an entire box of Little Debbies in one sitting and then chase the sugar with a bag of potato chips. I have been using MFP for a month now and am slowly making progress. I will be so glad when the holidays are over and everyone goes back to eating normal things. My mother, aunts and I spent the entire weekend making Christmas cookies and candies. Of course, I had to taste everything to make sure it was acceptable!
I am so disappointed with myself! Friday I wore a pair of jeans that I hadn't been able to fit into for at least a year and a half. Today I am wearing jeans that were too big a week ago and am considering undoing the button.
This is worse than Thanksgiving!
I am so glad to know that I am not the only one who can't step away from the table even when my stomach tells me "No More!!"0 -
Sara, start drinking the water. That's my goal for the rest of this week. I am struggling with maintaining my "overweight weight" through the holidays. My son just informed me that three of his college buddies will be coming the first week of Jan. for a visit...that means big meals and desserts!! My nature is to feed these "starving" college kids! I am going to try to focus on exercising and water. Easier said than done!:bigsmile:0

... MFP has worked...when I log my food and exercise.
I'd love to find out why a person who knows they're a food addict, would stop logging food and exercise on MFP after it has been proven to work in losing weight and getting fit?
That is so me, right there! I know what I need to do to control my weight, but I consistently stop doing it. I have had great success with MFP, but I always decide at some point to stop logging. Before long, I've stopped exercising, then I stop thinking about what I'm eating, and round and round it goes.
I also find myself wondering how other people eat a small amount of something and then stop...there's still more left, how can you stop? Whether it's a bag of chips or a pint of ice cream...I find it almost impossible not to finish the container.0 -
I know every one is so right I need to acknowledge what I put in my mouth. Two days and staying with the 1200 calories. Yea!0

Hi everyone,
I would like to join your group.... I would definitely consider myself to be addicted to food. I also can't believe it when someone can take a small amount of something, and leave the rest behind. Especially when it is sooooooo good. And, on top of that, I use food for my emotions: stressed, happy, sad, bored, anxious, depressed, excited, celebratory... anything and everything, anytime, it's a great time to eat.
I just joined about a week ago. I don't even know what sparked it, but I was thinking about what I wanted for Christmas. I thought, "hmm, maybe a weight watchers online subscription". So, I checked it out and realized, it's not cheap! So I started looking at other online options and came across this site. It's been a real eye opener, I'll tell you that!!!
For the first time in my life, I am actually paying attention to what I put in my body. I've yo yo dieted in the past, but even then, I never counted calories or fat or anything. I have definitely become much more aware. And, I am finally excercising portion control and awareness.
And, a small but neat victory for me today, that ties perfectly into this, is for the first time ever, I ate ONE serving of chips (baked lays, yum), and HALF a serving of flipz (4 of the best chocolate covered pretzels ever)! I'm learning that I can have some yummy things sometimes, just not all the time, and just not a whole lot of them. I am still thinking about them... I want more of course, but, I won't. I feel..... right with my decisions, but that I had some, and that I won't have more.
So, anyways, I wanted to say hi to everyone and share a little about myself!

OK peeps, I am getting worried about Leshawn. She hasn't been on in weeks...
Let's all make a commitment to each other to drink at least 64 oz. of water a day. You'd be amazed at how much faster you'll feel full! I challenge the group to a water drink-off! (I don't know what that is, I just made it up! LOL) Everyday we log in and let each other know if we made it to the 64 oz. goal. Sound good? We can do this!!!0 -

Hi, my name is Toby and I have recently become addicted to food. I had always been very thin until I stopped smoking 7 months ago. I just can not seem to get enough to eat anymore. I keep saying that I am going to cut back on my portions and then when I eat it is a totally different story. I have a 5 year old daughter and after she was born I was right back in my size 4 jeans and loving it, now I am in a size 12 and hating it!!! I just can't seem to stay motivated to lose the weight and it is really starting to bother me. I need to just find that one push that will keep me motivated. Any suggestions from anyone out there, this weight gain is really starting to bother me?0

Toby, It is great that you quit smoking. You and your child will benefit greatly from it. I wish I was a size 12 since I am double that but know what you mean about changing sizes and being unhappy. For a short time, it will be difficult to control your eating. Just deal with not smoking a little longer then go back to working on losing the weight. Your body will stabilize and then you will be able to lose weight again. Keep up the good work and do as well as you can with the diet.0

Toby, that is wonderful news about quitting smoking! I have a few friends who had the exact same "challenge" as you - after quitting smoking, they were always hungry. But after a while it all evened out and they got their hunger back under control. Join us in our 64 oz. water a day challenge for this week, and perhaps the water can fill you up.
I am getting close to the 64 mark! Only 12 to go! Well, we'll all be flushing those toilets tonight! :laugh:

Thanks for the post, missing 24 ounces.. I will start drinking now. sometimes I get so busy I just for get to drink! I went over by 100 calories today. sugar cookie iced added 180 calories............next time I will think a little bit harder berfore I eat the whole thing.!!!!!0

"Having a food addiction is like having a pet Tiger... that you have to let out of its cage 3 times a day."
It has taken me 2 years to lose 51 lbs because of my addiction to food. All I can say is you have to come to grips with your love/hate relationship. If you eat too much one day, you make the next day count. I have 20 more lbs to lose before I hit goal... it may take me another 2 years, but I'm ok with that!0 -
Made the 64oz goal today (actually, made 72oz!)............. also had a great food day; a great thing, as last night was a hugely bad night.

I sat in a meeting all day and had too much coffee. Didn't make it to 64 oz.!!! My biggest challenges are coming this week. Dinner on Sunday, Wine tasting on Wed., Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!!!I am going to try to bump up the exercise. :bigsmile:0

Hi, I'm Jen and I'm a food addict! I LOVE food. After so many years of my youth denying myself good food, I have spent the past few years indulging in the glories of a Fiance that can bake the best apple pie and makes the BEST homemade pasta sauce you've ever had. I too, eat when I'm bored, sad, mad, lonely, cranky, any adjective that ends in "y". I am SO glad I found this site. It has totally opened my eyes as to just what I'm eating and how much of it (holy moly were my portion sized WWAAYYY off)!
AND..... I saw this from a post back in October from Zebra....
Now, its a nice perk that we have a free cafeteria, but if I had to pay for this fudge everyday, I wouldn't and would probably at least be 10 lbs thinner by now!
Don't know if you are still eating the fudge, but if you are, how's about using a bottle of fudge topping as a guide (using ounces) and use the amount you pay per ounce for the bottle of fudge at the store to the amount you put in a bowl at work. For each ounce of fudge you put in a bowl at work, put the change you would've spent for the bottle at the store in a jar. Then, when the jar is full, see how much spare change you have....then think that all of that spare change isn't "spare change" around your tummy! So, in the long run you make money. A penny saved is a penny earned, afterall!!!!0 -

Well, friends, I have pneumonia. :sick: Went to the hospital today. I am hoping I can continue riding my bike. The docs said I could as long as I didn't feel out of breath.

That stinks. My dad has had pneumonia 7 times, it really takes a lot out of you. Don't worry about the bike, just focus on giving your body what it needs to get better.
Makes me feel like kind of a wimp. My semester ended and I've been home for a week and useless. I haven't even had the motivation to track my foods, let alone get stuff done. Par for the course, though, considering how depressed I get around Christmas. I'm flying to New Hampshire tonight to spend Christmas with my boyfriend and his family and I hope that helps, because Christmas with my family means food EVERYWHERE and so much pressure coming from my mom that I just about eat myself into a coma. It's a huge relief to be getting away from her.0 -
Sunsh1ne, just remember that it's OK to enjoy the food. Enjoy every single bite. Stop and think before you eat (like you always tell me ), and try to make good choices. But forgive yourself if you "screw up" and get right back on the wagon. Every day is a new day, a gift from God. We as food addicts need to take it one day at a time. Yesterday's brownie stays where it was, in yesterday. Enjoy your bf's family and have a wonderful Christmas!

I have been reading your thread on and off. I'm not a "food addict" but I have some thyroid issues that aren't quite resolved yet (in fact, I just found out about them in the last few months) and they're certainly making me feel like I'm a food addict :ohwell: Often, I'm hungry to the point where NOTHING satisfies my hunger. I have never been overweight and am trying my absolute hardest to keep it that way. I started MFP in March at 153 lbs (I'm 5'7"), and got down to 140 by August. However, I'm not back up to about 153-155 :explode:
So, while I'm not a "food addict" I think I face many of the same challenges (with my thyroid issue)- feeling like I cannot control the hunger, etc. Would it be ok if I continued to read along, and maybe even joined in? Seems like you all have a very supportive group here! :flowerforyou:0
