Falling off the Wagon
So I have a confession: I have totally strayed from "The Plan". The last month or so has been filled with personal challenges and pitfalls that I have totally bombed through. I can't remember the last time I was in the gym. I have been drinking beer and liquor at my pre-surgery rates, as well as snacking on the worst of…

How did everyone manage when 6 month meds end?
I was taking Omiprizone for the first 6 months. Finished prescription 2 weeks before Christmas and my stomach hurts every time I take 2 bites. Down 5 lbs over the holidays. Anyone else need to go back on these meds? I have my 6 month post op appt coming up on Tuesday. Hope they'll have a good recommendation..

NSV Trip of a Lifetime!
I just got back from an 8 day fishing trip deep in the Amazon rainforest. I am half Brazilian (my mother), and when we went down to see the Brazilian family for Christmas 2014, my cousin invited me to join him on what is now his 3rd fishing trip. Prior to losing the weight, there is no way I would have considered a trip…

10 year anniversary Appointment
Hi Everyone, I am not even really sure why I am sharing this, but Monday was an amazing day for me. I am 10 years out for my Roux en Y surgery and had my 10 year appointment. I am up more than I was last year (d/t medication change) and I wasn't happy going into my appointment. My doctor actually supported my current…

Want to lose a roll of belly fat?
I have been doing this planking for a while now. (About a month and a half) I began with a wall plank and have worked up to knee planking with some intermittent full planks, and arm raises during the plank! I've managed to , surprisingly, lose the lowest fat roll on my abdomen, so far!! I'm stoked with what I am seeing…

Starting the process!
Hi all! I am starting the process for RNY surgery this summer. I've seen my surgeon who agreed I'm a good canidate for surgery. I've done one PCP visit and I have my Psych eval 1/29. I am so ready to get this ball rolling and have the surgery. A little bit about me.....I'm a busy SAHM to 4 beautiful kiddos. I have decided…

Salivating and nauseous...
I'm nearly 8 months post-op RNY and down 125 pounds. For the past 6 days, I've had one or more episodes per day when I start salivating profusely, get sweaty and nauseous, and feel like I might throw up...I sometimes do end up heaving a bit. Today I've had 3 such episodes. They only last a minute or two and I am fully…

People treat me differently with the weight gone...
The good and the bad of weight loss. It has been 9 months since the surgery, and I am down over 100 pounds. Obviously my transition is notable to those whom I see on a daily basis. I work in an office with a team of men (10), we are all around the 50 year old mark give or take 8 years. As a team we all work very well…

A little stressed about the pre-op diet.....
So how hard is the pre-op diet? I am now waiting for my surgery date, will be sometime in April. They gave me the pre-op diet and I have to admit, I'm thinking it's going to be extremely hard! 14 days of liquids only (3 protein shakes, or 2 shakes & 1 mini-meal with real food) plus water, broth, sugar-free popsicles, etc.…

Sweeteners
Hi all, what do you use for artificial sweeteners, particularly in baked goods? Though I try to stay pretty low carb and clean, I like dessert too. For family functions I'd love to go back to my baking ways... And many of them are diabetic. Before I invest, what do you like? Xylitol? Erythritol? Swerve? Blend? Negative…

Increased Libido
Ok y'all. I'm just going to put this out there and embarrass myself in doing so, but I have got to ask this question. I seriously thought that my sex life or lack thereof was over with. (I'm 56) Of course, I didn't have a man either lol. But since my surgery, especially in the last month, it's like all I think about. I…

Re-Joining MFP & looking for VSG friends
Hello all, I'm trying to get back into the MFP world. It has been a LONG time since I was a regular here. I was last on WAY prior to my surgery (VSG in Aug 2015), and am looking to connect with some other VSG'ers. Please add me if you'd like. The more the merrier. It helps having people that are in your same shoes…

Depression after Surgery
I'm about 6 months out from surgery. I had a rough first couple of months immediately following surgery which led to some feelings of depression. I have been doing fairly well since then. But, over the last couple of weeks I've been plagued with serious depressive moods and crying spells. It's getting to a point that I…

Pre-op stories
Hello all, I finally saw the surgeon for the first time yesterday (seemed like it took forever!). Thankfully I knew my insurance requirements beforehand and I had completed the six month requirement of supervised weight loss so now I am awaiting insurance approval and medical clearance. Unfortunately, I cannot get into the…

Strong pulse in stomach?
So when you google this, you get a variety of things from 'totally normal' to 'OMG you are dying of an aneurysm'. So I'm not googling anymore because I'm pretty sure based on what I've read already that this falls in the 'totally normal' range. But I did want to know if anyone else has noticed this, just for anecdotal…

How many calories are you eating during the losing phase?
I have the VSG and just curious what you take in? I am always under 1,000, between 700 and 900. I exercise every day and weight lift so I usually have calorie burn from that at about 300 cals or more. I suspect I'm not eating enough because my weight isn't coming off. I'm trying to increase calories to see if I see…

Any tips for reactive Hypoglycemia?
Landed in ER last night due to extremely low blood sugar. I'm 18 months out from RNY and now need some ideas for small snacks that work to negate the drop in blood sugar. I know I did it to myself by eating a small piece of King Cake - it was Fat Tuesday! Live and learn. I have contacted my primary care doctor and…

Sinus drainage
Has anyone else experienced sinus drainage issues since having surgery? Mine have been creeping up on me over time but lately, they're crazy. Granted, I live in the deep south of the U.S., and it's more or less open season on anyone who is sensitive to allergens, but I've never experienced problems like this before. I'm…

Resources for Weight and interval training after bariatric surgery?
I've started working out with a personal trainer for the last month. She's slightly concerned about increasing my weight intensity and starting interval training with me while I'm still consistently eating below my Basal Metabolic rate, which per their lean mass/fat/muscle mass calculating machine is around 1490 cals per…

New here, looking into gastric sleeve...
Advice appreciated. So, my name is Saralyn. My highest weight was close to 300lbs last year. I'm currently 260ish right now. I went back and forth fighting with myself just to drop the 40lbs, but now I just feel too tired to fight. I've always been overweight, not once have I ever been thin. I've been seriously looking…
