No no no. I'm a sellout. They pay well, and stuff is cheap here. I'm not a commie but I will happily work for them and take their money.

Until recently, I managed a Waffle House, and, since we were charged daily for food, I ate there a lot. Chicken breast and egg whites has been mentioned. I would always wash the chicken in water before cooking, as the seasoning is high in sodium. The pork chops are good, and fairly low cal. You can get a salad with…

Ignore them is solid advice. A BB gun is more fun.

The sleep function is useless in my opinion. It just tells me that I slept six hours, woke x number of times, and was restless y times. Now I usually take it off at night.

I'm told a lot of cycling clubs won't let you join thier group rides on a hybrid. Is check with the club. If that is the case, you'll need a road bike.
-
Strava. I used to have runnkeeper, which works well, and Map my ride, but Strava does both bike and run in one app. Plus the competative aspect is cool.

When I was a kid, a neighbors dog used to chase me on my bike. My parents talked to the owner, but he didn't care. The solution? Squirt bottle full of ammonia. You'll only have to do it once, and those dogs will never bother you again.

I hear ya. I started working out in January. Since then, I've... Had a bout of very painful hip bursitis. Runners knee in both knees. Pulled pectoral muscle Now knee bursitis. Nothing severe, but all annoying. Still managed to lose 20. Just do what you can do and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.

1. Are you adjusting for size? For example, as a 6'4" 275 lb guy, I'll burn way more calories than a smaller person doing similar activity. 2. We talking gross calories, or just exercise calories?
-
I love cycling! Low impact, good burn, and you can get out there and see things instead of being stuck in a gym. Get a decent hybrid or touring bike, make sure it is well fitted. I've found that I've started running a lot of my small errands on the bike, which makes a trip to the store a workout.

I've always thought krav maga looked cool.

The only way I will ever do a burpee is if I decide to run a spartan race and have to do penalty burpees.
-
I remember the y where I used to live adjusted the rate based on income. Don't know if they still do that.
-
The y here is like $40 a month. The no frills golds membership is $10.

Handbike is the only cardio I can think of. Or, I guess you could rent a wheelchair and "run / walk" that way...
-
The word fit means 1. (of a thing) of a suitable quality, standard, or type to meet the required purpose. "the meat is fit for human consumption" synonyms: suitable, good enough; More So to determine if you are "fit" one must ask oneself "fit for what"? I'm beginning to look at fitness like training a dog. You don't take a…

Just use it as a guide. Not gospel. Is it accurate? Compared to what? Compared to plugging stuff in here on mfp, yes. I find it dead on with cardio machine readings. As accurate as a chest strap... Probably not.

Ordinary crap like mowing the lawn? No. Extraordinary crap like cleaning out the garage? Yeah. Cause it will be my workout for the day.
-
Do both. Hell, tips swimming in there and call it a triathlon.
-
Actually, that sounds great. It would be easy to eat well if I didn't taste anything anyway. I'd also probably be a raging alcoholic though.
-
I like the cut of your jib.
-
I would wait. The early stages of weight loss are easy, and you can figure it out yourself. It's later when plateaus and those last few stubborn pounds are left that a trainer earns his money. But the diet is all you. You gotta do that.
-
Yeah. I've had about a thousand last cigarettes too.

I was riding my bike on the local Greenway yesterday, and saw lots of people in hammocks in the trees by the river reading. That looked nice. I am gonna get a hammock.
-
I look at the "accuracy" issues this way. I'm a beginning amateur athlete. It doesn't so much matter if the hr is accurate as long as it is consistent. If it's always 10bpm off, that's fine. I can still use that data. It still shows my zones and effort level changes. That's good enough. Next time I will go garmin though.

And as for the rear, get padded bike shorts. And make sure you are sitting on the sale properly, far back on your sit bones.

With all my new hobbies, I have a gear wish list a mile long! That's my reward.
-
It certainly doesn't bug me. Not at all. I would just advise a "try everything" approach to people new to exercise. And I am one of those people who had been sedentary my whole life.
-
Exactly. I think we make the mistake of looking at exercise to much from a results standpoint. The exercise that will transform YOUR body the most is the one YOU develop a passion for and apply yourself to. Find something you love, and go do it. Don't worry so much about the effect. I lost fifty pounds years ago. I did it…
