  • I understand how hard it is to put yourself into situations where you might get spoken to unkindly. It's hard. But you're worth it! Anyone who would make snide comments to you is speaking out of their own pain/struggles/ignorance, and has nothing to do with you and your life. You've made a wonderful start. There's so much…
  • You were beautiful before -- you're stunning now. And you'll probably be around a lot longer. Keep up that good work.
  • I have both, and have found that the Wii is as accurate as my good-quality digital scale. I have my Wii set on a hard surface, though, not carpet, so that might be the cause of your variability. If you can put the Wii fit board on something hard, I wouldn't worry about buying a scale. However, if you don't have the option…
  • Oh, I'm so glad I logged on at just the right time to see this thread! I have a meal already planned for Wednesday that is Pork and Sweet Potato Stir-Fry. Will try to get a nice pic to upload, and of course the recipe.
  • Hi Rachael, Since you like sausage, pasta, and peppers, I put up a blog post of what I'm cooking for dinner tonight: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Equilibrium/view/pasta-with-sausage-and-peppers-41835 Now I know you're not a fan of tomatoes, but the tomatoes in this recipe are roasted so the texture is quite different.…
  • Hi Rachael, I've posted my recipe for turkey-pork meatloaf. It's fairly low fat, filling, and tasty: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Equilibrium/view/pork-turkey-meatloaf-41679
  • I want to --take off another stone (14 lbs) --to be able to run for 30 minutes (either inside in front of the Wii or outside) --to have racked up 100 miles of walks with my dog (I'm tracking this on Endomondo.com)
  • Hmmm. I need to think about this! Too busy with work at the moment but will come back to it later. :-)
  • Hi Wendy, I live in the East MIdlands and I'm about your age (and height!).
  • USA --Florida (lived) --Georgia (lived) --Alabama --Mississippi --Tennessee --Kentucky --Kansas --Louisiana --Arkansas (lived) --Texas (lived) --Oklahoma --New Mexico --Colorado --Arizona --California (lived) --North Carolina (only an airport!) --New Jersey UK --England (live) --Scotland --Wales --Northern Ireland Republic…
  • Instead of worrying about math, I would recommend that you get a digital food scale. I live in the UK where recipes are done by weight rather than volume, so I have to have a scale. I use it to weigh food portions all the time.
  • Whatever you do, don't let your daughter's behaviour sabotage your progress! You've done incredibly well with your weight loss. I realize that you have other family members in the house, but maybe you just shouldn't have all of the extra food that isn't really needed (fudgcicles!). Also, could you adjust the portions that…
  • Yeah, I've read his zen habits blog a lot (in fact I get it by email) but had never been over to his minimalism blog before.
  • It is noticeable -- look at how much door there is behind you on the 'now' photo!
  • That's fabulous! I did have to YouTube the song, and played it while looking at your words. Too good.
  • That's fantastic! It's so encouraging when the clothes fit again. :-)
  • Wow -- you've really turned your life around! One of my motivations for losing weight is to avoid all those issues -- I've had a BMI in the low 30's for 12 or so years, and now that I'm in my (gulp!) ltae 40's so many issues start to creep in. Fortunately, I've avoided any real problems up to this point, and now that I've…
  • I know that 'people always say' that you shouldn't count anything other than 'water' as fluid intake, but the Mayo Clinic (quoted above and link here) http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/water/NU00283 indicates that other liquids should count if you're tracking your consumption. Here's a link to the British Dietetic…
  • Wow -- you look great now! Maybe now you should change your focus to toning what you already have, and just maintaining the current weight for a while. Then in a few weeks try going back to a calorie deficit and try to lose weight. I'm not at that point yet, but as I think I'm at a plateau, this is what I'm thinking about…
  • I have tried to look at this as a lifestyle change, not a diet. I know that I can not eat like I used to, because then I'd just gain all the weight back. I couldn't face life if I had to 'diet' all the time ... from experience, that doesn't work for me. On the other hand, knowing that I can eat anything I want, just in…
  • Cooking at home doesn't have to take hours a day -- I'd be eating a bowl of cereal every night if that were the case! It take a few minutes to make mac & cheese from ingredients instead of using that blue package (is it still blue?). Put the pasta on to boil, make a white sauce, grate the cheese while the white sauce is…
  • I agree with several posters here that taxing junk food will only make things harder for poor people. I disagree strongly, though, that healthy food has to be more expensive than fast food. I am on a tight budget, and there's absolutely no way that I could afford to feed the 4 adults in my household (I have two full-board…
  • Sounds lovely -- I'll be trying these soon!
  • I have been eating unhealthily for the last few days (I won't make my choc chunk cookies again unless they're ALL earmarked for someone who doesn't live in my house!), so I guess this challenge has come at a good time for me. Heifer International is a good organization that I've known about for a long time.
  • Your hard work is definitely paying off. Keep up the good work!
  • You look so good! The first thing I noticed (ok, besides the tummy) was how great your legs look now. Well done. ::happy:
  • I can see that you've been doing this for 4 months now -- that's excellent! Although I only joined MFP in July, I started changing my eating and exercise habits in April as well. The main thing that keeps me going is knowing that NO foods are banned. I can eat anything I want. I just have to be sure that I can 'afford' the…
  • Hmmm. When I see these sorts of titles, banning some sort of behaviour or food, I'm always extremely skeptical. I generally think that a person can eat anything while on a diet, as long as they're aware of the price (number of calories) to be paid. After reading the details of the article, though, I'm shocked. Why would…
  • My digital scale, as well. It's too easy to have no idea or a mistaken idea of how much of something that you're getting, especially those things that are more difficult or messy to measure by volume (like the 6g of light butter that I had on my crumpets this morning).
  • Fighting the Bulge, Well done for asking for help -- you must be serious about this if you're willing to open up about your fruit/veg problem. There's been a lot of good advice, and I just wanted to give you a couple of examples from my life about problems trying new foods. Before that, though, please please keep in mind…
