I get terrible legs cramps from keto too, and I have been taking magnesium citrate for years. However, I've noticed if I take the magnesium in the evening instead of the morning, I do much better with the cramping.

He looks like maybe he has been fasting a little too much lol.

In February I began tracking again on MFP, lowered my calories, and did a little fasting. I lost 20#s and came to sort of a stand still. I took a break June - mid July. In August I started LCHF (and some fasting) - about 50 grams of carbs a day most days and have lost another 14#s. What I have noticed about low carb is how…

I am actually amazed that - over the long haul - MFP calorie/weight loss projections are very accurate, and I rarely measure and never weigh my food! I count about half of my exercise calories and put my lifestyle as sedentary although I'm pretty active in the warmer 6 months of the year which I think takes care of any…

Bone marrow broth and coconut oil in hot coffee (or almond milk) cleanses the whole digestive system and is also filling and satisfying.

I am just grateful that we have a couple of forums like Keto, Intermittent Fasting, and Low Carb to share encouragement and information.

When I first tried doing keto, I ate a lot more meat and had unpleasant headaches and leg cramps. Now I have decreased the meat and am eating more fat. I feel much better and am losing more weight. I might put a tablespoon of butter into my broth for dinner. A half teaspoon of coconut oil with salt for a snack. (How keto…

I am fine at 50-60 carb grams a day, but when I try to go to 20 -30 grams, the headaches are just terrible, and I keep getting leg cramps. I eat a lot of salt and take magnesium and potassium. The weird thing is when I just fast - no food - I don't get these bad side effects. I never do very low carb for more than a day or…

We should certainly break a sweat 2 or 3 times a week, but there are hundreds of ways of doing that. People who keep their weight off for 5 years or more usually exercise 5 hours a week. So while it is not mandatory for weight loss, it might be for maintenance. Personally I love to exercise. Zumba, ping pong, weight…

You're looking good Dan!

Hi blood pressure in older people (over 70) is actually linked to a longer life span.

If you go on a low carbohydrate diet, you will find that you crave (and are supposed to eat) lots of salt.

I would strongly encourage you all with high c reactive protein to take curcumin supplements. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric which is the best anti inflammatory cancer/arthritis/autoimmune disease fighting herb. You can buy curcumin supplements at health food stores. I make my own capsules from organic…

My calories are pretty much all over the place, but I religiously track my weight every week and have discovered that I am pretty consistently losing .7#s a week over the long run. I use graph paper and colored pens. It's sort of fun.

I like the Every Other Day Diet by Dr Varaday. 500/600 on Fast Days (keep it under 10-20 carb grams) and her version is eat anything you want of eating days - I prefer under 2000 calories and 100 grams of carbs. I also like limited time window for eating - usually 8-9 hours a day. Experiment there are many protocols out…

Trader Joe's and my local grocery store both carry no nitrate bacon that is very good

I use MFP and change diet plans all the time. I try to meet calorie goal averages for the week, so my calories can vary from 1000 - 2000 a day. That gives me lots of flexibility for special events and hungry days. I am also finding that keeping my carbohydrates under 100 grams a day makes me less hungry.
-
The cool thing is - your craving for sweets is greatly diminished when you eat low carb. Eliminating all grains, sodas, juices is a good place to start. I like the Diet Doctor. http://www.dietdoctor.com/how-to-lose-weight.

When I indulge in a high carb treat like a piece of chocolate cake, I feel so much extra energy that I have to burn. I've learned though if I indulge early, I will be hungry all day, so a night time cheat is better I think. It is easier to go low carb the next morning.

My latest favorite desert is not only good, but also an amazing cancer fighter/anti-inflammatory. Warm turmeric milk 1 cup unsweetened almond milk 1 teaspoon coconut oil 1 teaspoon xylitol 1/2 teaspoon turmeric 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ginger Stir and heat on the stove. Easy too. Only 90…

I take turmeric with black pepper daily - it is probably the best herb on the planet for fighting cancer and various other auto immune diseases. There is a good video on TED Talks about antiangiogenisis foods that fight cancer too. I will watch the above video when I can.

Yikes! 6 oz Chicken breast -no skin- boiled in water with curry - homemade sesame dressing on top. Mozzarella cheese stick for desert. about 500 calories.

@camtosh - an elite Japanese woman's university in the Western US (not teaching there at the moment) - It is true that Westernized diets are becoming more common and sugar laden in Japan. However, rice is traditional which was my point.

' " Personally, I believe every woman is unique and beautiful in own way. Physical appearance is not everything. Women are a better species, men would not survive without them. Fact, period! [/quote] mmm actually men and women are the same species, lol. The rest is pretty true.

No bacon is my vote - processed meats are strongly linked to cancer.

KFC - grilled chicken. I get 2 sides of coleslaw rather than the biscuit. Yummy!

I boil my beef marrow bones for 24 - 36 hours. I will start having some of the broth after 6 hours, but if you want all the calcium from the bones, you have to boil them a long time. Then I scrape the inside of the bones into my broth. I freeze the extra.

I've read that about 20% of the populations does better on lower fat/higher carb diets. I have to say that my Japanese students are all very slim and eating a bowl of white rice 3 times a day is their main food source. However they don't eat hardly any sugar.
