  • I get in a 30 minute walk around noon. Other than that I'm too busy working to exercise. Someone on my office floor last year bought a under the desk pedal thing (we all work in cubicles) . It was the most annoying few weeks of my life. It squeaked. I hated her.
  • I relate to this so hard. I try to determine whether or not it's something worth spending the calories on. Some of my coworkers are excellent cooks/bakers, or bring in fantastic treats from local bakery, and I'm pleased with my choices. Rarely are things like Dunkin' Donuts or candy bars as satisfying to me.
  • Same, I bought these ones: https://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDRAS200-Active-Sports-Headphones/dp/B00BN0N08K/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1470752189&sr=8-9&keywords=around+ear+earbuds
  • Fell off the wagon and haven't run for over a year. Last night I did W1D1. Starting fresh.
  • I don't use any of those things. My energy comes from being sufficiently rested, and coffee :-) Also, quest isn't a magic bullet to weight loss. Protein can definitely help, but CI<CO is the fundamental part of weight loss.
  • I have very dry hair, despite not coloring it. The following is what works for me: * sulfate free shampoo and conditioner * plenty of protein and good fats in your diet * Argan Oil after washing/conditioning * heat style sparingly * wash sparingly (every other day at most, conditioner only on off days as needed)
  • Really enjoying this thread and hearing from you all! I'm 5'9", and currently 205. At my heaviest I was 220, and two years ago was down to 185. I gained the 20 pounds back over the last 18 months when my boyfriend and I were long distance and spending every weekend traveling and with the other person. We've now moved in…
  • I love rolls that incorporate smoked salmon. That may also cut down on the 'raw' taste you don't care for. They may also have "cooked" rolls, if you are otherwise a fan of fish. As others have pointed out, if your watching calories, watch out for rolls that have sauces or cream cheese.
  • Avacados seem to fluctuate way more than any other fruit/vegetable, and not with seasons like others. I just bought a whole bag of 7 of them for $6 at Costco. They were perfect.
  • If you can, introduce yourself to the instructor right before class, and let them know that it's your first time. They will likely keep an extra eye on you, and offer more adjustments or instructions to assist you in finding the poses. As far as gas...well...it happens. Ask someone who's been practicing yoga awhile, and…
  • Coffee, Black tea or diet coke when I want something with caffeine. Peppermint Tea, fruit teas, or Diet A&W Root beer when I want something without caffeine.
  • I use map my walk as a pre-planning tool, to determine the distance of my planned walk, or to help me figure out how long a route will take me to walk at my normal pace. I have a fitbit, which I (loosely) rely on for calorie burned, etc.
  • Haha! Agreed! Same with the person who suggested pistachios above. If someone were cracking pistachios next to me in a movie that I've paid $10 to see....
  • 100%. People who complain about the expense aren't shopping smart, or just have different priorities than those who do. I'm not going to buy things like paper towels there. Whole Foods has consistently better produce, year round, than the generic grocery chain here (Pick N Save). It costs more, but it lasts longer, and…
  • for running and walking I like Balega, for hiking I like Wigwam.

  • Can you pair it down to just one split candy, and build that into your calories for the day? I LOVE popcorn, particularly movie theater popcorn, so I typically splurge a little when I go the movies and have some.
  • Amen. I still try to use my food scale 90% of the time, but in situations when I cannot, practice from using my scale has given me such a better eyeball estimation of what size portion something is.
  • I'm the same way, and I've been trying to work on that. I find that usually only eat 2 meals on the weekends, a mid-morning meal/brunch and dinner. They tend to be less healthy meals that I'd eat during the week. I also have more social events, so I'm more likely to have a few drinks as well. The last two weeks, I've gone…
  • Your family is offering you fast food when you visit? I wouldn't feel badly about turning it down. If it was something they had spent hours making, I would feel a little more guilt in turning it down. In those situations, I try to either just eat it (it's one meal), or just eat a tiny bit of whatever it is. You can be…
  • I keep trail mix (trader joe's mini-bags), granola bars (usually Kashi), dried cranberries, and a couple types of tea (caffeine and caffeine-free varieties) in my snack drawer. Tea has been a nice option, I find that sipping on a mug of tea when I get afternoon snack hungry typically distracts me enough that I don't end up…
  • Hence the part of my original post that said "Is there anything that would help with my balance, other than continuing to strengthen with lunges?" I was looking for other thoughts on what I might do to increase my effectiveness in getting stronger. The other posters were very helpful. Thanks for the snark though.
  • Another walker here. When it's nice I try to get in a 30-40 min walk outside. We have a small gym facility in the lower level of my building, but I'm uncomfortable working out with colleagues, so I've never used it.
  • I think this is actually the more accurate name for the move they have you do in Body pump classes. Sorry, should have been more specific. I teeter all over the place, and I feel like I'm never getting very far down. also trying to focus on making sure I'm not tipping forward (I know that knee past ankle is bad).
  • Thanks everyone. Sounds like I might need a bit of everything suggested. I've always struggled with lunges, and I started going to Bodypump classes once a week last month, and the lunge track always has me struggling with balance and doing the moves. I'm going to go weightless, slow down, and really focus on engaging my…
  • Agreed. I just started going to a weekly class 3 weeks ago, and there are some BP veterans that are in awesome shape, and are using pretty substantial weights (for the amounts of reps that are done.) I view it as a general exercise class that's somewhere in the middle of cardio and weights. It's been a nice intro to the…
  • OP, I do sometimes feel the same way, but whatever, it's their life. It's the same eye-rolling feeling I get when every beautiful, successful, fit actress says "I was a really awkward, dorky teenager", or a supermodel talks about how much they love junk food. People are entitled to project whatever image they choose out…

  • Everyone above has great suggestions. I'm a 'boarderline anemic' meaning my count never drops dangerously low, but unless I'm actively trying to get iron, I'll drop lower. Dark leafy greens, meat, lentils, are good dietary sources. I take a daily multivitamin as well, which is easier on my stomach than a solely iron…
  • If I eat dinner later, it cuts down on my cravings for a late night snack. Sometimes I feel like I want to eat dinner the second I get home, but if I start a project (laundry, dishes, etc) or go for a walk, usually I'm able to delay by an hour or so, which seems to be enough to keep me full later.
  • No guarantee, but tea tree oil has been immensely helpful for my dry flakey scalp. I put a few drops in some coconut oil and massage into scalp, leave for a few minutes, and shampoo as normal. I have also put some on a cotton ball and dabbed directly onto the part of the scalp that gets the worst. I've also seen that…
  • I'm 5'9", 202 pounds, and I'm typically a US size 14 depending on brand, item of clothing, fit, etc.
