  • From what my doctor told me (and what I've read online) Metformin alone doesn't usually cause weight loss. It just keeps blood sugar low, and helps your body use the sugars in your blood stream as energy for muscles instead of floating around and causing high insulin levels and all sorts of health problems. If you limit…
  • I totally agree... when I'm strength training (I do kettlebell training, and have done lifting programs in the past), I feel so much more energetic, and my body changes shape quickly. The only thing is my muscles DO bulk quickly. Which sucks because I already have large arms, so my shirts don't fit as well!
  • Victoria B.C.! Yes, Canadian girls are hottest. Also, ketchup chips, and dill chips are the BEST. And poutine, but that goes without saying.
  • One thing that sticks out is that you're not eating much protein. If you have a smoothie without protein, you're getting sugars and maybe some fiber, but nothing that will really keep your blood sugar stable. For me, I lose stamina and bottom out quickly during a workout if I don't eat enough protein. Maybe something to…
  • Glucorein PCOS has also really helped me! After months on a low-carb diet, working out, and metformin and not losing anything, after 2 weeks on Glucorein I've lost about 2 lb. My hair shedding has also really decreased!
  • TSH would be Thyroid. Usually the ones they look at are LH and FSH (Luteinizing Hormone and Follicle Stimulating Hormone). My endocrinologist also tested me for excess androgens (male hormones like testosterone). And YES, it's going to be ok! There is lots of support and information out there for us! And you can also do a…
  • SO awesome! Ironic how most women complain about getting their periods and meanwhile we celebrate them!
  • PCOS probably wouldn't cause a bump over your bellybutton. I'd go to the doctor asap if I were you.
  • It's a great program. I just started on week 4... went from running for 1 minute to running two sets of 5 minutes no problem. I'm also a non-runner, so I can identify! I say, do it! If you stick with it, it works.
  • When I was your age my doc put me on the pill (to regulate my cycles) and spironolactone, and they really worked well, especially for acne and hair growth. At age 30, my doc put me on metformin for about a year, which helped a lot with my cycle. Now I've switched to Glucorein PCOS and high intensity interval training…
  • Sweet! Gonna check it out!
  • Definitely eating tons of veggies is waaaay better for you and will help PCOS symptoms! But I am wired so that if I don't have an animal protein daily I actually get really really tired, and I'll continue to get more and more tired until I eat some beef/animal protein. I discovered this when I did a Daniel fast (no meat,…
  • I feel your frustration. The best results I have had have been with alternative practitioners: naturopaths (who understand hormones), acupuncturists, herbalists. The things they've given me and helped me with have made a huge difference. It's worth the extra money.
  • Have you tried a low carb diet? It sucks at first, but once your body adjusts it's much better and I've found it easier to lose weight. Also, please feel free to add me! I definitely can sympathize! There are tons of ladies on here with really good advice re: supplements and natural remedies that help a lot. It might help…
  • I read an article that talked about how even though green tea contains caffeine, it also contains things that calm the central nervous system instead of the adrenaline response of coffee. Here's that article: http://pcosdiva.com/2011/12/tea-time-for-pcos/
  • Hmmm... just realized maybe I should have posted this as a new thread. Oh well, next update will be.
  • I agree with the comment above... do it gradually, and you'll notice it's much easier! I try to stay under 100 g a day when I don't work out, and MFP adjusts it to be the right ratio when I do work out. But it did take a while to get there, and to adjust to it. I'd also suggest replacing refined carbs with veggies and low…
  • So I'm finishing my first week of Glucorein PCOS, and so far I've noticed a few positives right away: My hair is falling out a lot less. Like, it used to clog the drain every time I showered, and now I barely see any hair in drain after a shower. I'm craving food less and feeling hungry less. I feel more in control over…
  • I do kettlebell training 2-3 times a week, and my strength has really improved, along with my cardio. Strength training just makes me feel good in general.
  • I took it for almost a year, and the only side effects I had were that my blood sugar would go too low to where I was hypoglycemic. I decided to go off it and try just a low carb diet and working out 6 days a week to see if I can lose weight and restore my periods without constantly bottoming out my blood sugar. (I was…
  • I can completely relate! Please add me (and that goes for anyone on here too!) if you want support and accountability! I try to stay under 100 carbs a day, and 30 per meal... not always succeeding.
  • From what I've heard, experienced, and what my doc told me, low-carb or low glycemic diets are best. From what I understand, our bodies have troubles involving insulin/blood sugar regulation. Women with PCOS's bodies only use about 30% of the carbs that we eat because our bodies have trouble converting the sugars into…
  • Hi there! I don't have much to say about Gonadotropins, but just based on my own medical/naturopathic adventures, I would wait a bit before adding something else to your body. Dieting and weight loss actually puts a lot of stress on your body, and you might want to wait even just a few months to see if your body starts to…
  • Awesome! Please post your findings! I'm a big believer in diet, herbs, and natural supplements to treat things like PCOS!
  • Add me! That goes for anyone in the group too! Sent you a friend request.
  • I also found that I have a few food sensitivities, (casein - milk protein, and gluten), so not only am I always eating low -carb, but I have to ask for special gluten/dairy free options. And I'm still overweight. They must think I'm a HUGE diva. But seriously, cutting out dairy (and products with dairy or casein) has…
  • I can definitely relate to the problems with acne and with weight, although with Spironolactone I've been able to keep the hair growth to a minimum. But having acne at my age (31) and my friends knowing that I'm constantly on a diet, but still not losing weight is a big source of shame to me. So frustrating when others can…
  • Totally! Both of you feel free to add me. When my friends decided to start working out three times a week they hit their goal weight in a couple of months. I feel like they think I'm lazy or lying about how much I work out and how much I actually eat!
  • I'm also Canadian. Black Friday is pretty much the same as Boxing Day, only people are crazier. There are some good deals, but I avoid shopping. Now there are sales all weekend, so IF I go, I wait until Sat/Sun.
  • Metformin hasn't helped me with weight loss, but it does seem to help me not gain weight as quickly. Also, I find I have more energy and stamina on it, I guess because my muscles can use glucose as energy instead of not being able to. I have had no stomach troubles on it at all. But I take a small dose: only 500 mg per day.
