  • I haven't ran in the snow, but if it's a matter of a clear path, find a track somewhere. If it's a matter of the cold. I wear a mask over my mouth and nose to prevent from breathing too much cold air. The cold air affects my lungs way too much. I do about 3 to 6 miles. Treadmill runs help with outside running. But you have…
  • Well, Congrats on your accomplishment. I'm 38 and I reached my goal a few months ago. Start off slowly to balance out your calorie intake. If you need to increase calories to maintain, go slowly by increasing each day. Keep working out. You'll know how many calories you'll need. For me, it's about 2200. But I also workout…
  • We all have to do this for ourselves and no one else. But ultimately, we have to effect other people with our progress and results. So effect your parents. Keep going, keep pushing yourself and they'll catch on. Eventually, you will change their perspective and they'll gain what you accomplish.
  • Awesome to have you here!! Stay with it, we're all in this together.
  • that's what I've been doing for the last few weeks. I'm getting ready for a 1/2 and a full marathon. This is my schedule Monday - Treadmill interval run for 3 miles, 30 minute chest and back workout, finish with 1 or 2 miles on the treadmill or run home Tuesday - 10k Wednesday - Treadmill interval run for 3 miles, 30…
  • I really love this Kaiser commercial. It says it all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOtX6u0cBc0 just find your thing. once you find it, you won't want to stop doing it. You'll get addicted to it.
  • BMR is how many calories you need to just be awake throughout the day. It's as if you got up one morning and sat on the couch all day and burned just the basic calories to stay alive. Eating that many calories throughout the day just keeps you going. If your normal activity level throughout the day is more than just…
  • if your BMR is at 1427 then why go as low as 1200 per day. My BMR is 1786 and I was sticking to about 1900 per day and losing 1.5 pounds a week. I would encourage you to reevaluate how many calories you should be consuming to lose weight. consuming too little calories can have the wrong effect.
  • MFP doesn't calculate calories burned correctly. But you might want to check the settings in your HRM. theres a big difference in how many calories are burned for men and for women. check the setup guide for the HRM you should be able to create some kind of profile for it.
  • MFP doesnt really calculate calories. I don't know how they calculate that. the best way is to use a heart rate monitor.

  • i do see your point, but it really is the same for everybody. I mean every... body. This is how the human body works. There are really no exceptions. However, there are difference in what state our individual bodies are currently in that respond differently to starvation mode. Circumstances like being very over-weight,…
  • to maintain your current weight for your age, height, and sex, you need 1510 calories per day. That's without doing any exercise and with little activity. if you are gaining weight on 1200 calories per day, it would seem likely that you body is in starvation mode. increasing calories will likely cause you to lose weight. I…
  • I have a Garmin 405. I love it. I got it on Amazon for $150. Normally they're 300.
  • You were wonderfully made. You are more perfect then you know. try to discover that. Physiologically you still have 6 years of growing to do. scars and stretch marks at your age will likely go away. The real point of all this is control. Self control. We all need self control for more reasons then physical health. You can…
  • I always have to wait about 20 to 30 minutes after. If I take a shower right away, I continue to sweat for about an hour after and then I need another shower.

  • zumba seems to burn the same amount of calories as running about a 9 or 10 minute mile for the same period of time. If you cant run a 10 min/mile but you can Zumba, then you're doing really good. But a heart rate monitor is really the best way to go. It's the most accurate.
  • You're ready for P90X2. Don't be intimidated by intense workouts. Insanity is also really good. Go for something bigger than what you're used to. I was in the Marines, and one the biggest things that every Marine learns is that we are far more capable of anything then we ever thought. That's what makes Marines so tough.…

  • A calorie is a unit of heat energy. The energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water through 1 °C. But it's the measure of energy that our bodies use as fuel.
  • I'm in about the same spot as you. I started using this site in April, but started losing weight late last year. I dropped about 45 pounds all together. I'm in maintenance mode now. I'm trying to slow it down rather then just hitting a good maintenance spot. I think, I'll end up losing 5 more pounds before I really find a…
  • what do you mean reset? you can go to "my home" and click "weigh in" then change your current weight. or go to "my home" then "goals"
  • No, leave it on Football. Watch the game. Everyone needs football.
  • Trust can be regained. I've seen it in some difficult marriages. My best advice can only be to pray, even if you don't pray. Talk to God if you're willing. That has worked for me in much more difficult circumstances. Also, you can only work on you. You can't fix him. Only do what you can. Go for what you want and need.…

  • plateaus happen for a lot of reasons. But increasing calories can get you through it. bump it up a little and workout differently for a week. push through it, you will definetly break through it.
  • focus on short term goals. but look beyond each day. go for 2 weeks. eat right for 14 days and expect something at that point. What you can expect is less of a desire for that junk. exercise to be able to eat more. just start out slow. don't go for the gold just yet. ease into it. Just as a side note, having sex can burn…
  • I don't know what your other circumstances are, but my wife and I found that we hated not having enough time together and with our kids. My wife quit her job and we walked away from our house. A while back we filed for bankruptcy. We couldn't be happier. We originally bought into the whole, "American Dream." Owning a…
