  • In response to this, btw.
  • Uh, doctors are people. They get into ruts. If you want a test done, by all means, ask your doctor to order it. If it's not crazy expensive they shouldn't have a problem with it. Geez...
  • It sounds like you could have some sensory issues with smells. First of all, you've listed some foods you can not tolerate in any form, and you've listed some foods you don't prefer. I'd seperate those two lists. If you can't stand something that is quite different than you just don't really like it too much. For instance,…
  • BMI is just a medical tool to let you and your doctor know what problems you are more likely to have. If you are higher than the normal range, your doctor may suggest getting tests done to monitor your blood sugar, for example. If you are outside of the normal range due to the fact that you are a professional body builder,…
  • WTH? When do you add the crack??
  • Go! The sore hoo-hah does go away after the 2nd class or so. I liked it so much I bought the shoes that clip onto the pedals which makes a BIG difference when you're climbing hills.
  • I'll get a little chocolate and eat it with a some raisins. For some reason the raisins are more satisfying than just the chocolate alone, and I can stop after a little bit. If I eat plain chocolate I would eat it all day!
  • I wouldn't start off sprinting. Not only will you wear yourself out pretty quickly, you are much more likely to hurt yourself. Start slow and go for endurance. Speed will come later.

  • I used the Higdon novice half marathon training program. http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51131/Half-Marathon-Novice-1-Training-Program I definitely worked on endurance before speed, but I found that the longer I ran, the faster I got at the shorter distances. I ran a 5K a little after the half marathon and came in at…
  • I'll bet nobody would even notice if you brought your own food or ordered things on the side. If they did mention it, and you'd think they'd judge you for thinking about your diet at a time like this, I'd just say that you're having tummy issues. I know that when I'm under a lot of stress that I could not eat that kind of…
  • Try it for a couple of months and see.
  • Not sure where you are from, OP, but if you are in an area that is very hot, know that if you hydrate well you will get used to the heat. I'm in south Texas, and run races all summer. Drink plenty of water all day long, not just right before or during a run. It's tempting to jump on a treadmill some days, and yeah,…
  • So maybe women should start wearing burkas when we run lest your sons have a lustful thought looking at our exposed faces and legs. :grumble:
  • I saw a woman in the park running in a sports bra and short running shorts the other day, and she must have been at least 8 months pregnant. If she has the cajones to do it, anybody should. I wonder how obese the person that made the comment was?
  • Yes. Just yes to all of the advice above. Sometimes that first mile is a bunch of curse words that I can't post here. It could be any number of things. When that happens, I usually take a few days off.
  • I quit in 2007 because I didn't want to pay $4.00 a pack! Money is a real motivator. My husband and I quit cold turkey together and saved the money to take the family to Disney World. OP, it really does get easier. Just take it one day at time...or one 10 minutes at time. I found that lollipops and sugar-free gum really…
  • I lose weight in my face and chest first, so I don't notice my clothes fitting better for many moons. I'm currently down 16lbs and since my problem area is lower stomach my pants are STILL tight! My upper tummy and chest are smaller, so some of my shirts fit better, but I still have a dang muffin top from tight pants. lol…
  • I didn't use a C25K program when I first started running, but since I haven't run regularly in a year I've started with the Zombies, Run! 5K program. It's pretty good as far as increasing stamina and endurance. I ran a half a couple years ago and had only been running about a year at that point, and this program is pretty…
  • If you are talking about what is showing on your MFP newsfeed, I wanted to point out that when I log several activities it only shows up as one. I'm sure people think it's funny that I burned 600 calories walking for 30 minutes! Actually I walked 30, ran 30, and did the Shred workout, but it only lists the one.
  • Don't wear a cotton t-shirt. It felt so gross.
  • I think it gets people jazzed up. Makes it feel like a special, fun day. I don't personally dress up for races, but I appreciate when other people do. It makes for fun people watching.
  • Just wanted to mention that Taco Bell does NOT put lard in their refried beans. They may not be healthy, but they are vegan! I get the same thing everytime I go...seven layer burrito add red sauce.
  • I don't think you can legally add 's's to years until you're at least 30, but good job on the other stuff.
  • I'm starting Level 3 Day 1 on Monday since we are going to the beach for the weekend. So far I'm down 6lbs. and 10" overall.
  • My husband has issues with textures, so to some extent I understand this problem. I think you've got to get out of the habit of lumping all vegetables together as yucky. There are many different varieties and chances are if you're open to trying new things you'll find something you like. I get that tomatoes are slimy, but…
  • I'm on Lo Loestrin, and I've lost 15lbs since Apr.11.
  • Do you log what you are eating? I'm going to be honest...it's difficult to believe that you are eating like you say every day and not closer to a healthy weight. It's not impossible, but MOST people who are overweight are there because they ate too much. You need to be really, really honest to yourself about exactly what…
  • I finished the one (and only!) half marathon I ran at just over 3 hours. If you are getting your long runs in during training, you'll be fine.
  • Yeeeaah, that's never going to happen. Sizes are not standardized. My daughter (size 3) can't even go to a store and buy things without trying it on first. She just bought 2 of the same pair of pants in different colors. One was a size 1 and one was a 5! If you held them up they were exactly the same size. Size 10 is not…
  • When we go out for pizza I usually log it based on size, type of crust, and toppings. Luckily there are several 12" veggies in the database, and most of them come in around the same amount of calories so I go with one of those. As long as it's not an everyday thing I don't think there's anything wrong with guess-timating,…
